THEY MEAN THIS IN A GOOD WAY

Attention, Indymedia revolutionaries! You now have a new dead hero:

Iraqi leaders condemned the assassination of Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, whom they hailed as a "Palestinian Che Guevara".

They're right; the resemblance is uncanny.

"Put me on your bedroom wall, infidel western teen!"

Yassin’s got all of Che’s qualities -- wild beard, fashionable headgear, no pulse -- plus additional groovy wheelchair charisma! No wonder artists adore him.

i thought saruman died in the shire?

Could this guy look more evil? (Oops, silly me. Please revise to reflect the past tense)

Posted by: S.A. Smith at March 23, 2004 at 02:12 AM

Actually, he's more of a dead ringer for Fidel Castro.

Posted by: Wallace at March 23, 2004 at 02:19 AM

i thought for sure the Ents on Fangorn would get him before the evil Jooooos but looks like i was wrong.

good riddance to old rubbish

Posted by: cugel at March 23, 2004 at 02:39 AM

filthy old murderer better off dead

Posted by: cugel at March 23, 2004 at 02:46 AM

I think the Israelis should recover his, well, head and then televise it being sodomized by a gang of swine.

Posted by: Koby Teeth at March 23, 2004 at 03:04 AM

...should we point out that Che's only noticible military or political talent was looking good in a beret?

Posted by: Dave P. at March 23, 2004 at 03:14 AM

Koby,

There are some things that even swine won't do.

Posted by: Jim at March 23, 2004 at 03:14 AM

blow the old swine out the back passage

Posted by: cugel at March 23, 2004 at 03:20 AM

On a related note, i saw a picture of a dude holding one of the Sheik's wheelchair wheels, and ... well let's just say i don't think it will fetch much on E-bay, as Tim suggests.

Posted by: Bill at March 23, 2004 at 03:36 AM

What's the difference between Yassin and Bin Laden? Both of them have urged civilians to become militants to kill civilians, especially women and children.

Religious or not, the two of these "men" are cut from the same cloth. I'm more interested in what the Kurds think of the yassination. At least the Kurds have a better understanding of what justice means and how a well formed militia can act in the interests of it.

Posted by: Brennan Stout at March 23, 2004 at 03:37 AM

Seriously, Yassin was very badly injured. He may never walk again.

How could they do this to a guy in a wheelchair? He was a quadripalegic (sp?) before; now he's a pentipalegic (sp?).

He didn't ask for much. Just peace, Allah's blessing, and the eradication of Israel.

Posted by: Just Some Guy at March 23, 2004 at 04:05 AM

Israel rendered Everything south of Yassin's neck inoperable. I don't see the difference. It didn't work anyhow. No foul no muss.
Yassir might put Yassin's head in a pickle jar and use it for a paper weight.

Posted by: Papertiger at March 23, 2004 at 04:27 AM

Let us all rejoice and be happy for our beloved sheik, since as he just achieved martyrdom, he is sitting right now among the same 72 virgins he promised so often to others.

Posted by: frenchfregoli at March 23, 2004 at 04:32 AM

Yes, frenchfrigolli, but pity those virgins. Wouldn't it be a hoot if the guy gets to heaven only to discover that he needed his penis?

Posted by: S.A. Smith at March 23, 2004 at 04:38 AM

The Volokh Conspiracy points out that Yassin once said "The day in which I will die as a shahid [martyr] will be the happiest day of my life."

Happy Shahid, Sheikh!

Posted by: Mike G at March 23, 2004 at 05:22 AM

Wait a minute- keep in mind that these comments are seen by deep thinkers from Demo Underground, etc. So, let's keep it rational.

Yassin was like a small piece of poop that stubbornly clings to one's ringpiece, despite repeated attempts to eliminate it. Thank you, IDF, for playing the role of Charmin in this shitty world of ours.

There, that should make Vanity Fair next month in the new "hate speech at right-wing blogs" section.

Y'know, add some glasses and nix the whiskers, and Uncle Junior would have RALLY freaked out!

That had to be one of the most priceless "Sopranos" moments ever.

Posted by: geezer at March 23, 2004 at 06:02 AM

I just want to know when Arafat's going to have his date with a missile.

Posted by: Big Dog at March 23, 2004 at 06:27 AM

I have a nice picture of this guy, too.

Go here, and be sure to move your mouse over the "before" picture.

I almost felt bad doing this. But I didn't...!

Posted by: Mike at March 23, 2004 at 07:00 AM

Have a heart guys!
Somebody out there could have done with that wheelchair.Anybody say what they are doing with the starlift?

Posted by: Peter at March 23, 2004 at 07:21 AM

Looks a bit like Jerry Garcia.

Considering the "we love death,marthyrdom"
blather ,it's probably quite approriate.

After all, Jerry played guitar in
"The Grateful dead".

RIP evil SOB.

(Not you Jerry).

OT: Alison Broinowski likes to blame Bali on beer-drinking and other root causes.

Now it turns out her husband gave a positive reference for an alleged pedophile.

Posted by: Andjam at March 23, 2004 at 07:39 AM

Sharon must learn from Yassin and Arafat that to become the darling of the left you have to look the part . as Oscar Wilde said ipso facto. "The French are only concerned with the packaging of words, the contents matter not. "
Sharon should immediately dump his ill fitting suits and don the apparels of a freedom fighter.
Banderas, loose fitting Kaftans with simple patterns, long hair and of course a beard.
And he must lose weight. Who ever hear of a fat terrorist . Sorry I mean freedom fighter.
Yes a complete make over is sorely needed.

Posted by: davo at March 23, 2004 at 07:46 AM

Typical of the Broinowskis, supporting crude White ugly Australians who are sexually exploiting innocent Asian boys. Sydney deserves to be bombed and 100s of Aussies die for this!

Posted by: Freddyboy at March 23, 2004 at 10:38 AM

Looks like Sheikh Yassin won't make the Athens Para-olympics after all.

Posted by: Freddyboy at March 23, 2004 at 10:39 AM

S.A. Smith -- Yeah, all he'll be able to do with his virgins is give head!

Posted by: BarCodeKing, Florida, USA at March 23, 2004 at 10:57 AM

It was Yassin's fault that he was in the path of a missile.

Posted by: d at March 23, 2004 at 11:42 AM

Umm, errr, nicely done, Mike.

What did the IAF Apache pilot say to Sheikh Yassin?
.
.
.
Catch.

Posted by: Spiny Norman at March 23, 2004 at 11:54 AM

Give him about 12 months, then Che and Yassin will be pretty much indistinguishable.

Was Hamas about to expand its terrorists activities overseas ?
http://www.defenddemocracy.org/usr_doc/Globalization_of_Hamas.pdf
perhaps an answer to why they waited so long to act ?

Makes me think back to that little flash thing the dissident frogman had at his site.

"My name is Saruman and I want to kill hobbits!"
"You mean negotiate."
"Yah, I want to negotiate hobbits."

Posted by: Quentin George at March 23, 2004 at 03:26 PM

I thought of Saurman as well when I saw that picture.

I can see his picture on a T-shirt with some very unflattering comments underneath. Perhaps an enterprising person will create some?

Posted by: Chris Josephson at March 23, 2004 at 06:14 PM

The Saurman connection is all over the 'net now.

Heh heh. I want to negotiate hobbits too.

Posted by: Sortelli at March 23, 2004 at 07:09 PM

I reckon he is a dead ringer for Billy Bob Thornton in "Bad Santa".
It's a conspiracy!

Posted by: Dave F at March 23, 2004 at 07:19 PM

Actually, he was a bit like Nelson Mandela, according to one paper's obituary (see if you can guess which one...)

Posted by: The Tapir at March 23, 2004 at 08:47 PM

I think we need to look at the root causes of why a young impressionable air-launched missile would want to seek martyrdom on a one-way suicide mission.

Posted by: BC at March 24, 2004 at 12:13 AM

Until yesterday afternoon, all outlets (including Arab ones) had referred to the killing as an "assassination" or "extrajudicial killing".

Then my local news radio station, in what I believe was actually a CBS network report, referred to it as a "murder".

Piss on CBS.

Posted by: Ken Summers at March 24, 2004 at 12:18 AM

Murder is killing. Killing is murder. Both terms are correct. Either way, the whole thing is asinine. Every time we kill one of their impotent figureheads, we draw attention to their preachings and give them another martyr to rally around. Duuuh. They just recruited 1000 more young jihadists.

Posted by: Marc at March 24, 2004 at 01:52 PM

The only part of Marc's post that you need to read: Duuuh.
