If this get's out I'm very concerned about the impact on Darell Waltrip's career.

Morgan Fairchild: Dated Kerry, paid Gephardt.

Posted by: Paul Dubuc at March 23, 2004 at 03:06 AM

Are Charlize Theron and Mike Myers American Citizens? Is this legal?

Posted by: Stacy at March 23, 2004 at 03:27 AM

Stacy,

My understanding is that it is NOT legal for non-citizens to donate.

I see from the link that Aaron Sorkin gave money to Gephardt, Clark, Kerry AND Dean.
Talking about hedging your bets.

What happened to Hooty and the Blowfish?

Posted by: Sue at March 23, 2004 at 03:31 AM

I was at Bush's inaguration, and Kelsey Grammar was actually on a float in the parade. Who was on top of the lead float?

Wayne Newton, baby. Wayne Newton.

Posted by: Bill at March 23, 2004 at 03:38 AM

Zoinks!

Casey Kasem joined the tinfoil hat brigade! I can't believe it!

Jinkies, I wonder if they gave him Scooby Snacks for his patronage?

(*)>

Posted by: bird woman at March 23, 2004 at 03:40 AM

Unfortunately, Casey Kasem has always been in the tinfoil brigade (P.J. O'Rourke had him marked down on the Commie list over a decade ago.).

I remember reading that singer Brian McKnight gave money to the Bush 2000 campaign. I wonder if he gave any now?

And Ms. Theron obviously needs to have be charged with violating federal election contribution regulations.

I also see West Point grads stick together (Kris Kristofferson, who gave money to Wesley Clark, is an alumni of the USMA.).

Bill Gates, of 1 Microsoft Way, gave 2 grand to Bush. And that's it. Nothing for the Dem's. Not a guy who believes in covering his bases.

Posted by: S.A.. Smith at March 23, 2004 at 03:56 AM

I guess the only thing that shocks me is that de laurentis is still alive. For some reason I thought he'd been dead for at least 10 years.

Posted by: Kevin at March 23, 2004 at 04:16 AM

According to imdb.com, Mike Myers is British:

"Carries a British Passport. He has said in many interviews that he regards himself as British.

His parents, Eric and Alice, were British citizens, which is why Myers carries a British passport."

Posted by: David at March 23, 2004 at 04:32 AM

Casey Kasem was just following the Mullah's orders. Theres a good muslim. Don't beleive in the infidel's harim democratic practices, but work in their system until the Umaam is strong enough to act.

Posted by: Papertiger at March 23, 2004 at 04:33 AM

Many sites repeat the same line that her US citizenship is pending, so Charlize Theron might be African-American.

Posted by: David at March 23, 2004 at 04:47 AM

Myers and Theron are U.S. residents, which makes it legal for them to contribute to federal elections. The states vary as to whether it's legal for non-citizen residents to contribute to candidates for state office.

Posted by: Brown Line at March 23, 2004 at 05:08 AM

David stole my "African-American" comment, which I recall the lovely Miss Theron using on SNL well before James Taranto became fascinated by the term. So I can only go smutty...

When it comes to Charlize Theron, a lot of us young American men would like to pend her citizenship.

Posted by: Bob71 at March 23, 2004 at 05:50 AM

In fairness, Don King gave to both Carol Moseley-Braun and to George Bush. How's that for pair?

Posted by: Ken Summers at March 23, 2004 at 06:02 AM

Rupert Murdoch, the cheap bastard only gave Bush $2000.

Posted by: Quentin George at March 23, 2004 at 06:11 AM

Isn't $2,000 the limit for individual campaign contributions?

Posted by: david at March 23, 2004 at 06:23 AM

Yes, $2,000 is the limit.

Posted by: Bill at March 23, 2004 at 06:38 AM

And Babs gave to basically all the Dems. 'cept Loserman of course. He's actually got half a clue about defense. That'd rule him out.

Posted by: Walt at March 23, 2004 at 06:48 AM

Hey, look, another reason to like Debra Messing; besides her gorgeous hair, she donated to Lieberman's campaign!

Posted by: Ash at March 23, 2004 at 07:00 AM

I mean, as celebs go, that's pretty good.

Posted by: Ash at March 23, 2004 at 07:01 AM

One more. Paul Newman $1,000 Dean.

Posted by: Zach at March 23, 2004 at 01:17 PM

Well, I was wrong among Kristofferson being a West Point graduate (My admittingly far-from scholarly source was wrong.). He does seem have been an officer in the US Army, leaving as a captain the year before Wesley Clark graduated and was commissioned (1966).

Ditto to the person who emailed me to point this out.

Isn't it a little pathetic to note how much Dad has "officially" coughed up for junior?

Wouldn't you be pissed if you were President and your wealthy dad didn't pay up?

Posted by: Quentin George at March 23, 2004 at 03:37 PM

Natalie Maines may not have put her money where her mouth is, but Toby Keith did.

Posted by: Donnah at March 23, 2004 at 04:10 PM

Quentin George: isn't a little pathetic to spend time writing a snide comment criticizing George HW Bush for not "paying up", but only end up making yourself look foolish and ill-informed for not knowing that $2000 is the donation limit?

Posted by: Timo at March 23, 2004 at 04:19 PM

The most interesting political contribution that I've found so far (it's not on the fundrace site because that only covers the US presidential campaign) was a $500 donation from one Albert Kaline to Citizens for Bunning. Jim Bunning is a former major league baseball player who went into politics. He served in the US House of Rep. for a number of years and I believe he's now a Senator.
Al Kaline was his teammate on the Detroit Tigers in the late 50s and 60s. They are both in the Baseball Hall of Fame.

I kept passing this up but I can't help it!

Isn't it a little pathetic to spend time writing a snide comment criticizing Quentin for spending time writing a snide comment critizing George HW Bush for not "paying up" but only to end up making yourself look foolish and ill-informed for not realizing that Quentin was doing nothing of the sort?

Posted by: Sortelli at March 23, 2004 at 07:14 PM

Kris Kristofferson's claim to fame is that he was a Rhodes scholar at Oxford. As was, if I'm not mistaken, Bill Clinton.

Both of them do a passable good old boy impression, but I ain't buying it.

Posted by: Dave F at March 23, 2004 at 07:15 PM

Thanks Sortelli, good to see someone knew I was being tongue in cheek to mock ANOTHER poster.

I'll let Timo off the hook though, the Internet makes sarcasm pretty hard to see.

Posted by: Quentin George at March 23, 2004 at 07:23 PM

Heh heh!

I guess it was a little pathetic of me to take the time to write a snide comment critizing Timo for taking the time to write a---oh **** it.

Posted by: Sortelli at March 23, 2004 at 07:33 PM

What about Michael Moore? Not a cent for Wesley Clark.

Posted by: Adam at March 23, 2004 at 09:19 PM

One more clarification on Kristofferson, if my memory serves me correctly: While he did not attend West Point, he did teach there for a brief period as a professor of English Literature, his particular specialty being the poetry of William Blake.

Ted Danson is not a celebrity...

Posted by: Val Prieto at March 23, 2004 at 11:10 PM

Posted by: Ted Danson at March 24, 2004 at 12:40 AM

Donald Sutherland
MAURICE POVICH
Benjamin J. Stein
JOANNA GARCIA

Posted by: Ace Mclean at March 24, 2004 at 01:05 AM

Bill I can top your Wayne Newton sighting. I was in Austin at the Bush rally back on the night of the presidential election and Wayne Newton walked past me about ten feet away. Several partially sloshed UT students yelled out "Danche Shein Baby!" to him.

Bo Derek (who used to be a celebrety) was also at the rally. Drew Carey was also in the parade. Someone should look them up.

Posted by: superfly at March 24, 2004 at 01:44 AM

Ackshually... Sortelli, Quentin George, Timo, et al...

The thing that is really a bit pathetic is us Irish ex-pat Canadian residents nipping in to poke cheap fun at Bushes pere et fils (mandatory bilingual Canadian content there), without knowing the first fscking thing about campaign contribution limits.

Meanwhile, might I meekly point out the curious absence of Katherine Harris, Ann Coulter and Bill O'Reilly from the Bush "friendlies" lists....?

Meanwhile part II: how does the $2K cap work, exactly? Is it $2K per cheque, or $2K per year, or what? Or is $2K per individual the absolute donation limit. If so, how does one explain this?

Posted by: Michael O'Connor Clarke at March 24, 2004 at 02:33 AM

Limbaugh, Coulter, Ingraham, Medved, Prager? Nada.

Franken, Colmes? The same. (For some reason I cannot post the last name of Alan Colmes' partner, Sean H., who nonetheless contributed nothing).

Only radio host I could find was Hugh Hewitt, who encourages his listeners to contribute to Bush, hypocrasy free ($2K to Bush).

The Donald not afraid to play it both ways. Trump gave $2,000 to Bush and Kerry.

Posted by: Zach at March 24, 2004 at 03:44 AM

$2,000 per cycle... primary and general. So, I can give $2,000 to Kerry before July (the nominating convention) and $2,000 after. That's it. No one under 18 can give.

Posted by: Brian at March 24, 2004 at 04:44 AM
