ASPECTS MISJUDGED

Remember Barbara Plett, the BBC reporter who wept over Yasser Arafat’s illness? Here’s an update:

The BBC was bombarded with hundreds of complaints yesterday after one of its reporters admitted on air that she had wept for ailing Yasser Arafat.

The BBC admitted it had received hundreds of angry calls. A spokesman confessed: “Aspects of this particular report were misjudged.”

No kidding. Michael Moore can relate:

Not since Moby Dick has a great white whale been so bloodily harpooned. It took a shocked Michael Moore, director of Fahrenheit 9/11, until yesterday to comment on the US election result. When he did, he made a lame joke, offering "reasons not to slit your own throat". But if John Kerry's strategists feel like slitting anyone's throat right now, it is Mr Moore's.

In 2000, Mr Moore's support for Ralph Nader helped lose Florida for Al Gore. This time, he boosted President Bush by outraging Middle America. Take a bow, Mike: you've done it again.

Take a bow? For Moore, that’s an Extreme Sport. Maybe he can lose some mass dancing slowly to this.

If you are into killing Jews, you will weep if the greatest butcher of Jews since Hitler dies.

jake - Huh? Oh, right, you're talking about the BBC. I thought you'd gone all M*r*nd* on us there.

Maybe Mikey can dance to girl-band covers of Fleetwood Mac?

Somewhere in that Flash/Bee-Gees thing (hey, weren't they... AUSTRALIAN? Are you, or ever have you been, a member of the Axis of Schlock?) there's a picture of Laura Bush looking weirdly like Jackie Kennedy in the Camelot years. Or maybe I was imagining it. Do I detect the Sinister Hand of Rove? I believe I do, honest to God. This proves that the American public does want Francophilic Massachusetts liberals -- and in true Rovian fashion, the GOP attacked Kerry's strongest point. This subliminal assault may well have won Bush the election.

They ARE Australian, via the UK. I happen to be very proud of them, especially for "Lonely Days" . Mock the Bee Gees at your mortal peril.

Great link, tim! LOL!

Tim, I'm sorry, but in my book "Dancing Queen" alone is worth more than the Bee Gees' entire catalog. It's schlock executed with such preternatural grace and skill that it transcends itself. At the end of history, the Good Lord will weigh Strasbourg Cathedral against that scene at the end of Dick where they rollerskate around the Oval Office, and the cathedral will be found wanting. Mark my words. That scene is the highest and finest expression I've yet seen of all that is best in the human spirit. I'm dead serious here. With that as our epitaph, we'll be fondly remembered. I guarantee it.

Now it can be revealed. Fat Boy=Rovian Second Front.

I find the Moby Dick reference quite apt!

>offering "reasons not to slit your own throat"

Ashame - Dems slit-throating themselves would be a pro-american act.

If she's so overwhelmed with 'grief', maybe she should make her reservations now to join arafat when he's embalmed and then posted into the ground. Too bad he's not being cremated. She could do as in the old days of India when the widow joined her man in the flames on the pyre.

"Take a bow? For Moore, that’s an Extreme Sport."

ooo, below the belt! ...also an extreme sport when you're talking about Michael Moore.

Tim,

That WASN'T Moore's first reaction to the election. His first reaction (see here) was to post a composite photo of president Bush comprised of tiny images of the U.S. soldiers who have given their lives in Iraq.

Appearances can be deceiving. Moore may look like a great white whale, but he is only a little, evil man.

Dammit people, the white whale was the HERO. Not the villain. Quit comparing the noble soul of Moby Dick to that pit of odius sludge known as Michael Moore.

But if John Kerry's strategists feel like slitting anyone's throat right now, it is Mr Moore's.

How churlish. They were all for him before they were against him, weren't they? Maybe they shouldn't have invited him to sit in the psuedo Presidential Box at the Democratic Convention then. What short memories they have ~ perhaps it's a grief induced lapse.
