VICIOUS KITTIES

Whoa! Luke Power just got knocked out. This Geelong/Brisbane preliminary final is excellent. Cats up by four points with eleven minutes to go in the second quarter (on delayed telecast).

UPDATE. Power is back, but now Shaun Hart has been taken out of the game by team-mate Daniel Bradley ... er, Bradshaw. Haven't seen that much blood since Francis Bourke.

Brisbane won. They looked tired. They're in the Grand Final, again.

Now, let's see one-time Essendon Bombers player Gavin Wanganeen bring the cup home to Port Adelaide.

So close, yet so #$@#$ far. Jeez, for a second there I thought Geelong had done the impossible.

To deepen the pain, this makes it the first all-interstate grandfinal. Shit.

Carn the CATTERS!!!!

Not the same without the blues beating the woods, by a point.

Hey Tim, could you do us Yanks a favor and tell us if your talking Australian Football, Rugby, or soccer. Thanks ( I asssume football as there is blood and all, though I have watched a rugby match where ther must have been half a dozen serious injuries.)

David,

Tim is referring to Australian Football (or "Aussie Rules).

Well, I'm not complaining about tonight's result as I'm a Lions fan myself :-)

I reckon that if they can find a WIN even in a situation like that, then they definitely deserve to be favorites next week. C'mon on lads - FOUR in a row!!!

Hmmm, never mind the ozzi rules, in Rugby League, North Queensland have THRASHED the reviled southerners (brisbane) !!!!! 10-0

Shaun Hart has been taken out of the game by team-mate Daniel Bradley.

That would be "Bradshaw". Come on Tim, that's the sort of slip that Tim Webster is famous for - you've been living in Sydney too long. Actually Voss almost KO'd Hart earlier in the game, so his teammates were gunning for him. There'll be a few sore Lions this week.

Great game, as was last night's.

A better Websterism would have been if I'd called him "Don Bradshaw".

Thanks Richard.

Thanks Richard.

DELAYED TELECAST??? I don't understand. You don't get a big game, match whatever, live?

To my fellow Americans...

If you are confused about the differences then educate thyself about Aussie rules at a site oriented toward US and Canadian fans of the sport: http://www.afana.com

We seem to have ended up with an all non-Victorian Grand Final?

Will the Victorians turn up?

Will the Victorians turn up?

We'll find out soon. There hasn't been such a thing as a spare grand final ticket since forever. I expect it will be the same this week. I'm a Carlton supporter and I'd go to it, although I expect I'll be watching it on the box.

As for delayed telecasts, that only applies to the town where the game is played so as to not affect gate receipts. Other centres get it live. As the GF is always a sellout, it is broadcast live.

BTW, other games during the year occasionally sellout and are also broadcast live.

Hail my heroic hometown Cats. They didn't win but by jingo they knocked the stuffing out of the Lions, lifting Port Adelaide's chances of a Grand Final win immensely. And you know what that means, Tim? Collingwood's four-on-the-trot premiership record would remain unequalled. Go the mighty Port Power!!!!

Posted by: slatts at September 19, 2004 at 03:18 PM

I made a prediction after the Saints Vs. Port Adelaide game, that I still stick to.

Saints will still win the premiership. You doubters say "how do you propose that one?"

Simple Einstein!!

Pitch invasion!!

Instead of our faithful, making a US type pre-emptive strike on the field during the final, my "new revised strike" theory is a very sound one.

The TEAM invades the field, turn it into a three way!!

Go Saints!!

I think we can jump from here.

There are some commentators (I don't have a link but they know who they are) who suggest that the Saints lost the preliminary final becasue of a pitch invasion in the first quarter that stopped the game when the Saints had all the momentum.

Posted by: john at September 20, 2004 at 09:24 AM

John should be aware that the people who invaded the "pitch" were in fact other Saints supporters celebrating Gehrig's 100th goal for the season. Idiots.

Oh, and go the Power!
