LACK OF HATE CONDEMNS ISRAELIS

Michael Moore’s problem isn’t merely with facts, writes Cathy Young. It’s with basic decency:

In his 2003 book "Dude, Where's My Country," Moore expresses sympathy with the Palestinians who danced in the streets to celebrate the fall of the World Trade Center: after all, America supports Israel, which kills innocent Palestinian children. Then, he makes a statement so mind-boggling that when I saw it on an anti-Moore website, I thought it might be distorted. It was not:

"Of course many Israeli children have died too, at the hands of the Palestinians. You would think that would make every Israeli want to wipe out the Arab world, but the average Israeli does not have that response. Why? Because in their hearts, they know they are wrong, and they know they would be doing just what the Palestinians are doing if the sandal were on the other foot."

Moore has such a poisoned notion of humanity that his respect for Israelis would increase if they vowed to kill all Arabs. Meanwhile, Young also reports, David Hardy and Jason Clarke’s book is "soaring to the best-seller lists."

UPDATE. In other loudmouth news:

Just six weeks ago, Al Franken boasted that the new liberal radio network, Air America, was beating conservative talk-show host Rush Limbaugh in the ratings in the nation's largest media market, New York City. "We beat him," the host of The Al Franken Show told CNBC's Tina Brown in early June. "The period we're opposite Rush, we — we beat WABC, so we think we beat Rush."

Now, however, Arbitron, the audience-research firm, has released final ratings for Spring 2004 — the April/May/June time period that coincides precisely with Air America's first months on the air. And the news is not nearly as good for Air America as Franken and others had led the public to believe.

Bravo, Cathy Young. For anyone to even suggest people would rationalise the murder of their own children in that way is just ... as she concludes, obscene.

I thought Moore was like just some kind of sick joke.

Wrong.

Moore is evil.

The fact that Moore has a distorted view on the truth shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. After all, the truth means fuck all to Moore when it comes to raking in the bucks from some bullshit shock-jock film.

Idiots like Moore like to misquote history to back their argument, unfortunately for Moore history still proves he's a liar as well as an idiot.

Wouldn't his open hatred for anything Isreali constitute racism???

Check out some of Moores previous work on Afghanistan, on the Taliban to be precise, and see what side of the fence he was on then.

I think Moore must be latin for Hypocrite..

I don't really approve of fat jokes and all that.

But I really do wonder if Moore is so invested with personal insecurity and bitterness about the slings and arrows of outrageous adolescence that he is now enveloped in a pathology of morbid, narcissistic and very public hatred.

Hatred of his own nation, its culture, its morays, its allies, its hurts, its aspirations, its historical narrative, its future even.

Mostly, though, hatred of himself.

The person who filmed that brave Chinese dissident staring down a column of tanks; that cameraman who panned his instrument unforgettably over an assembled mass of starving Ethiopians in the 80s - these men changed the world for the better.

Each of them has done more for the world than all of Michael Moore's films and books and self-promotional harangues and condescending interviews. Shame on him for misusing his talents. I feel sorry for him.

The fat fuck.

Odd, here I was thinking that the Israelis aren't the monsters Moore wants them to be so genocide isn't an option for them.

"his respect for Israelis would increase if they vowed to kill all Arabs"

How?

Franken Lied! Ratings Died!

Posted by: Tongue Boy at July 21, 2004 at 01:52 AM

I think that Moore's point, however round and flabby it is, is that the Israelis know deep down inside that they really are evil and so can't fault the palis, because hey, if they were treated the way they Israel treats the palistinians, they would be intentionally killing children too.

He is much more hate filled than you give him credit for.

Israel doesn't blow up buses packed with innocent people.

Israeli soldiers didnt drag an 8 month pregnant woman from her car and murder her and her 4 young daughters.

Michael Moore and Michael Berg should really get together and talk. They have so much in common.

I simply cannot understand the mindset of these people. It isn't human.

Michael Berg is Nicholas Berg's so-called father, in case anyone could forget that cold, heartless, unloving man.

if the sandal were on the other foot

I saw Micheal Moore wearing one sandal, and I said to him "did you lose a sandal?" and he said "no, I found one".

From the linked article:
Moore, the 50-year-old filmmaker and author of several books, has made a career of traveling round the world talking about how stupid, brainwashed, selfish, greedy, and otherwise rotten Americans are.

I think Moore is very much a self-hating American, and his goal in life is to spread hatred of the US more than anything. What he is saying is that Americans are more evil than even Israelis. I haven't read the book, so I probably can't comment on a quote taken out of context.

To me, Moore is ultimately a comedian. I don't think we should give take his views too seriously - hey its just comedy.

CurrencyLad, I think you need to document Moore's hatred for America's morays. I doubt he even knows what a moray is. There are some quite nice morays on a reef just off Key Largo, including one habituated by a divemaster to wrap itself around him in return for a treat.

Oh, wait, I think you meant "mores". Never mind.

(concur with your comment, just horsing around with your typo -- and I think reef life deserves fastidious treatment on Tim's site, given the abundance of same in Oz's waters)

Moore is proof that there is such a thing as a white Uncle Tom. An Uncle Mike, perhaps?

Posted by: Hereward at July 21, 2004 at 08:20 AM

Tim, I think you (and the journalist linked to above) have lifted this piece of text out of context and made an assumption about Moore that he doesn't make. He isn't arguing that his respect for Iraelis would go up if they hated Palestinians (in fact, if you read the quote slowly, it no claims about his level of respect). In the context of the chapter, he is trying to explore the reasons why, given the outrages committed against their people by Palestinian terrorists, the average Israeli doesn't hate the average Palestinian. He doesn't make any judgements about that, apart from admiring their generous spirit.

Posted by: BIll at July 21, 2004 at 09:25 AM

Yeah Bill! It's so generous of them to guiltily await the swift justice brought upon them by suicide bombers. Let's all admire their generous spirits along with Moore. The Jews should die, and deep down, they know it!

Posted by: Sortelli at July 21, 2004 at 10:00 AM

BIll, please reread the quote:

"Of course many Israeli children have died too, at the hands of the Palestinians. You would think that would make every Israeli want to wipe out the Arab world, but the average Israeli does not have that response. Why? Because in their hearts, they know they are wrong, and they know they would be doing just what the Palestinians are doing if the sandal were on the other foot."

Moore clearly ascribes his own viewpoint and motives to Israeli behavior (a standard parlor trick of his), and the motives are not nobility or compassion, but rather the "knowledge" that, really, Israelis deserve what they get. That's pretty sick, not just for the cheap projection, but because it implies that the only way for Israelis to demonstrate their sincerity would be, and I quote directly, "to wipe out the Arab world." Anything less than genocide simply proves Israelis don't really believe in the righteousness of their position -- and therefore makes them wrong and deserving of Arab terrorism.

I'd be outraged, but this kind of bullshit-passing-as-analysis is pretty standard Moore.

Posted by: E. Nough at July 21, 2004 at 10:09 AM

It's pretty standard from a lot of pro-terrorism flacks, frankly. Israel deserves it because it shouldn't be there. The Palestinans are misguided but their actions are understandable. Come on now, carlos and company, let's all hear how you "condemn Palestinian terror, BUT. . ."

In related Moore news...

Seems he's about to be under the hammer for conspiracy to commit electoral fraud in his "beloved" America.

Some of you may also know he technically committed electoral fraud in Canada recently by telling people not to vote for the Conservatives (it's illegal for a non-Canadian citizen to attempt to influence voters in Canada).

And the news is not nearly as good for Air America as Franken and others had led the public to believe.
The news is, as the Arbitron numbers showed, Air Idiot had its head placed on a silver platter, from which Limbaugh booted it square through the goal posts.
