No comment? I'd bet on that:

Former ATSIC deputy chairman Ray Robinson allegedly gambled nearly $5million - or the equivalent of more than $5300 a day - at Queensland casinos over a 30-month period.

Mr Robinson's gambling records were obtained by Federal Police after search warrants were executed as part of an ongoing investigation into the serving ATSIC commissioner, who has been under scrutiny over his management of taxpayer-funded Aboriginal corporations in Queensland.

Yesterday when contacted by The Australian on his mobile phone at Charleville in Queensland and asked about the gambling records, Mr Robinson paused and then said: "I've got no comment."

Lazy drunken black bastards ... probably a muslim too ... tear him to pieces ... and Mabo.

What sort of run did the "Howard's Christian Fundamentalist Fuckwit Takes Boyfriend On Taxpayer Funded Holiday To Europe" story get in your pages Tim?

You manage to defend the poor sweet innocent darling gal? Who spent $10,000 of our money flying first-class to Europe with a fellow called Derek she wasn't living with?

You ever critcise the govt? Never?

Posted by: Steve at July 17, 2004 at 09:14 AM

Not exactly a revelation.

For years, all any Australian journalist had to do, to expose ATSIC corruption, was to match up dates of their Queensland commissioners' meetings in Townsville, with dates of the home games of the Broncos. Oh, it's been a great little caper- fly to Townsville, book into the best rooms, watch the footy, then gamble the night away at the Breakwater Casino- all on ATSIC's tab. Millions wasted on roulette and blackjack, instead of aboriginal health and education. I well remember personally begging The Australian's aboriginal affairs journalist to investigate this and other ATSIC corruption, a few years ago. Aren't we lucky to have truthseeking newspapers in Australia; like the SMH, and The Australian? And their fans, like 'Steve', who support corruption investigations only when they're against his political enemy. If you've ever wondered why Aboriginal people in this country have suffered so much, and have such a tragic record as regards health, education and employment, look no further than the ATSIC commissioners who have siphoned off millions- and their enablers, like 'Steve.'

Steve, tim has voted for the ALP in the past you know?

Posted by: Quentin George at July 17, 2004 at 09:58 AM

I agree with you , they are picking on Ray just because he's black.
He wasn't gambling the 5 million , he was investing it for the good of Atsic.

Posted by: John P at July 17, 2004 at 10:09 AM

Shhh Quentin, you'll only make Steve's head explode by saying stuff like that.

As for Ray Robinson, I guess that's what they'd call a "preferred customer". $5 million?!

Posted by: PW at July 17, 2004 at 10:53 AM

Trish Draper? Hello? Taking boyfriend on tax-payer funded pseudo-honeymoon around Europe flying first class ... Good thing? Bad thing?

Ray Robinson's a thug and a fool and a corrupt cheat and an arsehole and good riddance I hope he gets 5 years in jail ... my point, boys, is why the cheating black gets slammed, the cheating white Liberal party christian woman don't ... hm?

Posted by: Steve at July 17, 2004 at 11:22 AM

You don't know shit about me Byron, so assume whatever you like but don't put write it down because it fits some convenient take you have on black affairs and those you think appease them cos they're black. See above. Robinson and that prick Clark have been rorting it for years ... and they've been hounded and rightly so.

Trish Draper, tho? You talk about politically motivated ... waddya reckon mate? Her trip with Derek on the piss in Europe making love up the Champs Elysee and fucked if I know how it's spellled but what say By ... good thing? Good for Trishy! She's had a tough time of it so yay, go on holiday girlfriend.

Posted by: Steve at July 17, 2004 at 11:26 AM

Steve, I got some of your mail by accident, I didn't realize it until I read it. Sorry about that. Anyway, the Party says it appreciates your efforts of distraction so far, and they'd like for you to scream a little louder to shed those last vestiges of coherence.

Posted by: Sortelli at July 17, 2004 at 11:43 AM

Draper returned the money.

Trish Draper!!?? That's your best punch? Sheesh.

Posted by: slatts at July 17, 2004 at 02:58 PM

re Robinson

My edition of today's SMH does not cover this story - another example of their censorship by omission?

Who said this? ATSIC = Apparatchiks Talking Shit In Canbera.

Make a coherant arguement, stop the insults and inuenndo and start having a mature discussion.
Or fuck off.
Either one, I dont care.

Posted by: RhikoR at July 17, 2004 at 04:38 PM

wasted 5 million? and nothing to show for it? bloody useless amateur bastard!! whatever happened to crims who snaffled money and spent it on good stuff like horn cars, harleys and real estate?

Posted by: rocoe at July 17, 2004 at 04:52 PM

So Ray repays the 5 mill ... everything's cool?

Posted by: Steve at July 17, 2004 at 09:11 PM

And this is mature?:

"Make a coherant arguement, stop the insults and inuenndo and start having a mature discussion.
Or fuck off. Either one, I dont care."

A) Who the fuck are you telling me to fuck off

B) what innuendo? Tell me it aint hyprocitical for this blog-boy wannabe journo to have a crack at the corrupt blacks, but ignore the corrupt christian Liberal party whites..

C) And as for insults ... that's all this whole site and every prick who's reading is about ... insults are okay long as they're directed at someone who's opinion you don't agree with ... you self-righteous fuck-stick.

Fuckin mature discussion ... you've come to Tim Blair's Blog spot fuckin thing for a mature discussion ... for discourse ...? What a hoot. Do you also go to fistfuckers.com for bible analysis?

If convicted, it will not be his first contact with the courts, Ray Robinson is a convicted rapist.

Posted by: Adam at July 17, 2004 at 09:31 PM

Steve, looks like you need a little time out.

Posted by: Andrea Harris at July 18, 2004 at 01:14 AM

If there's a bash-ATSIC story out there in the real media, you be sure it'll get a run on the cut-and-paste's blogmire.

Posted by: Miranda Divide at July 18, 2004 at 04:04 AM

Trish Draper? Any comment? Or is that old news now? Swept under the carpet? All's forgiven? She's repaid the 10 large and ... what. No comment from the Right? None? WHAT??? IT'S DEAFENING in here.

Peter Reith's kiddy? 50 large on the public's pay phone ... good thing/bad thing ... discuss.

Any you remember Tim getting into the govt about these rorts?

Tim? Or did ya mate? Surely you're not just a cheer squad for the Libs? Ahh .... I know ... it's you isn't it ... you're the bloody Dirt Unit!

C'mon Blair - own up son. You're the whiteboard too aren't ye.

anyway - Ray Robbo should be going to jail and that's bloody good isn't it. Course Reith and Draper are cool ... slap on the wrist and a don't do it again, things'll blow over, cos what we Libs never do, however, is admit we've done anything wrong. We are peerless. We might have had faulty intelligence, perhaps, and we're gonna kick some public servant ass like Mr T kickin the ass of the fool who told him dem lies, but when we in the Liberal Party have said No GST or there's kiddies in the water or we've got evidence of weapons of mass blah-blah and Saddam's got em and he's gonna give em to his buddies Al Queda, and then these things turn out un-true ... buck don't stop at the top like it used to. No. It was some bloody spook who we're going to discipline for convincing us of these un-truths.

Anyway - this govt's been bullshitting and rorting and lieing and all that stuff that politicians do, they're up their armpits in shit, not to mention up the USA to the elbow, and YET we read on this site the horror of black corruption ... now boys, ask yourself why? ...

Little bit Pauline aint it? Little bit ... We White Folks Are Doing It Tough While The Blacks Are Having Fun In The Casino With Our Money, isnt it?

Yet Trish and Reith and Johnny and the rest of this menagerie of lieing dogs can cheat and lie and do all that shit and there's nary a boo outta you.

How come?

Posted by: Steve at July 18, 2004 at 07:09 AM

...if there's a bash-ATSIC story out there in the real media, you be sure it'll get a run on the cut-and-paste's blogmire...

...and you can be assured the Left will leap to protect ATSIC. 'Commissioners' like Sugar Ray have ripped off millions over the years- money that should have gone into aboriginal health and welfare. And they couldn't have done that, without your help.

Posted by: Byron_the_Aussie at July 18, 2004 at 09:26 AM

...We White Folks Are Doing It Tough While The Blacks Are Having Fun In The Casino With Our Money...

They're having fun in the casino with Aboriginal money, Steve. Money that should have gone on education and health, but was instead spent on gambling.

Posted by: Byron_the_Aussie at July 18, 2004 at 09:29 AM

If Trish Draper had spread 5 mill across the tables she would be in the dock where she belongs.

What pisses me off is that Ray Robinson can do it and idiots like Steve yell abuse and make this a racist issue.

If Draper committed some criminal offence charge her and let the courts decide. If Robinson did then same to him.

And FUCK YOU Steve and all your apologist mates who continue to justify and excuse piss poor performance and leadership from the liks of Sugar Ray on supurious racial grounds.

Posted by: Gilly at July 18, 2004 at 01:48 PM

Still want to know if anyone else has heard of the millions of dollars which went 'missing' while Crean was ACTU President,

or is creative accounting just par for the course in such things?

I mean how could any ALP Govt have reigned in ATSIC mismanagement when the ALP itself is rife with such problems?

Posted by: revel at July 18, 2004 at 03:12 PM

Suger Ray Robinson was exercising his right for equality.
Imagine the envy induced grief suffered by the average welfare recipient when they heard about Kerry Packer living it up at Casino's around the world making multi-million dollar bets.
Sugar Ray shouldn't need to go and create a billion dollar plus corporate empire when he had an easily accessible pot of taxpayer money from which to draw.
Let's see the leftist media laud Sugar Ray as the battler that got to live in the shoes of Kerry Packer for 30 months.
I knew my taxes went to a good cause.
