LATHAM LATEST

From The Age:

Labor leader Mark Latham was an economic "dunce" whose "reckless spending spree" led to a $15.9 million deficit at the Liverpool City Council in western Sydney, five former Liverpool mayors and one deputy have claimed.

From News Ltd:

A report by a respected economic body proved that Labor's workplace relations policies would have devastating consequences to the Australian labour market, Prime Minister John Howard said today.

"This report, carried out by a firm that the Labor Party itself has used to cost its tax and economic policies, draws attention to the devastating economic consequences to this country if our labour market were re-regulated," Mr Howard said in Melbourne.

From Glen Alpine resident Tomina Brown:

"At least he's got balls."

Err ... yes. And from Paul Sheehan in the SMH:

We're told that the most recent full Morgan Poll projected an election-winning lead for Labor over the Coalition of 54 per cent to 46 per cent. But that was taken before last week's handover of qualified sovereignty to Iraq from the United States. Immediately after the handover, Morgan conducted a special telephone poll to test voter reactions. The result was a political jolt:

"A clear majority of electors now believe Mr Howard (55 per cent) would make a better prime minister than Mr Latham (34 per cent)," said the Morgan analysis.

Well, polls -- as Sheehan notes -- are fairly pointless during such a volatile pre-election period. But the negative trend for Latham is building. He may yet be forced to endure some of those in-depth media profiles his handlers are so keen on avoiding.

Comments

Over the weekend we again heard that Mark Latham is a violent person who intimidates women, his first wife living in fear of him.

Mark Latham and the ALP have responded and conclusively shown that these issues don't go to character, and indeed are irrlevant, arguing that
'these are all old stories, there's nothing new in these accusations.....'

Perhaps Saddam Hussein's legal team should run this line....

I thought that the media might have had a hard time spinning this against Howard, but I was wrong. At least one channel led with "Liberals deny mounting smear campaign" and most others gave more time to that line than the actual story (despite their items showing not one iota of evidence to back up the so called "smear campaign")

Tomina's sentence contains an erroneous pluralisation. Don't they have editors at the SMH?

Posted by: yobbo at July 5, 2004 at 10:31 AM

That's weird. No mention of Access's other finding - Howard and Costello have spent wildly, leaving Treasury cupboards "distressingly bare", and that future surpluses are dependent on current record corporate profits continuing for years, which it describes as "bull". It predicts interest rate rises, and while rates historically low, they are higher than the US and Europe.

Surely you can find something to object to there, Tim 'Conservative' Blair? Or is it just Latham that you attack?

Posted by: fatfingers at July 5, 2004 at 10:42 AM

Watching the 'insiders' yesterday, it was fun to see the serial lrfties squirm, though amazing how much they defended Latham. Shit, for a party that is so caught up in 'wimmins issues' to defend a guy who is violent and possibly did the dirty on his wife its fun to see the double standards. Its the same with the democrats and Bartlett's drunken behaviour,it all depends on who has done it.

Posted by: nic at July 5, 2004 at 10:45 AM

Mark Latham and economic dunce? Surely not. His writings suggest a lucidity on economic issues that would have him running the Treasury if not for his political ambitions.

Oh, hang on, that's Llatham with two l's. So the f*** is Mark Latham with one l?

For anyone who is interested, the full transcript of the Sunday program on Latham is online.

Also, the Sunday Mail story has details of the claims by his ex-wife.

As far as smears are concerned, Latham set the mark by his own vicious smears of others under Parliamentary Privilege. Karma is a bitch.

Correction:- "At least he's got a ball".

So has the Canturbury Rugby League team.

Posted by: Habib at July 5, 2004 at 11:20 AM

Silly fatfingers, Tim attacks lots of people.

Posted by: Andrea Harris at July 5, 2004 at 11:25 AM

Poor poor Mark Latham is 'under attack'.

He is close to tears.

He believes there is a secret govt department digging up dirt 'against his family'.

Is he close to breaking?
Can dish it out but can't take it eh? Bully boy has a soft centre. Typical thug.

This confused mess is your leader oh, lefties?
He can't even respond coherently, or even sanely, to his ex-wife's complaints, and he wants to lead the country?

This is what you are offering us, rule by a paranoid neurotic who fears the truth?

Posted by: Poormark at July 5, 2004 at 02:21 PM

"Interests rates still higher than US and Europe". Maybe, but what do you call interest rates around 18% fatfingers??

The facts speak for themselves and there's little any Laborites can claim against this high performing government.

The Australian Resources sector claim that under Labor "reforms" the resources sector will shed 70,000 jobs, is that more of Lathams economic brilliance at work???

As for a smear campaign, well. If Latham doesn't like what is being said about him then stiff shit. I never heard him complain about the treatment meted out to Pauline Hanson, including her direct family, which encompassed her personal life. Nope, he thought she was fair game.

Latham has been found out to be a liar, a thug, immoral, untrustworthy and deceitful, not to mention financially innept. He has also today showed he is just another blubbering sook like Bob Hawke in todays latest press conference.

PS. Last Friday Sook Daddy Latho was bouncing up and down on seven sunrise with the old line, we always said Iraq didn't have WMD's but on Saturday night on Ten news they ran the story that 17 chemically loaded missiles had been found in Iraq.
Funny how the leftist media haven't bothered to show that story again. WMD's have now clearly been found but the media and Sook Daddy aren't interested...

Posted by: scott at July 5, 2004 at 02:32 PM

Latham's tears may be as calculated a response as he suggests are the accusations being made - which now include buck's nights and the sexual harrassment innuendoes.

However, responding to ex-wives' complaints are definitely a no-go zone. You cannot respond coherently or even sanely to ex-wives. Ex-wives are the WMD - if not the al-Qa'ida - of unnamed sources. Even when they're named. If that makes sense.

You lost, bitch. Now shut the fuck up.

Posted by: ilibcc at July 5, 2004 at 02:39 PM

You have to laugh at the way the ALP is trying so desparately to wriggle out of all this. First we had Mark suggesting that biffo and bonking are normal for Sydney westies; then Bob Brown claiming a good leader can't come from a sterile background - strange choice of word; as though fucking and fisting are not only typical westie, but also essential to building good leadership character.
Finally, it's all the fault of the Libs' dirty tricks unit - something akin to Richard Nixon's Committee to Re=elect the President and the Spanish Inquisition. But in the end when all other excuses fail, just cry on national media - after all, it never hurt Bob Hawke.

Posted by: Freddyboy at July 5, 2004 at 03:15 PM

Also, just how raunchy IS Mark's bucks party video? I mean if it was typical westie boys night out, "Long dong" Latham would have had to have been the star performer in it. Does it rate five stars like Adrian Lam's?

Posted by: Freddyboy at July 5, 2004 at 03:41 PM

Latham's comments in parliament include name calling such as suckholes, Brown-noses, Arselickers, calling and referring to John Howard as a "C", calling Janet Janet Albrechtsen a Skanky Ho.
He muck raked Tony Abbott over his "Illigitimate child" and not once did I see him stand up for Pauline Hanson during the media and Labor lead attacks on her personal life.
Latham is a backstabbing coward who has repeatedly lied about his past to hide his criminal behaviour.
His attack on a cabbie shows how dillusional he is. He claimed the cabbie was running off with his belongings. Why would the cabbie run away if he had a car?? Latham lied about hitting a man 30 years his senior yet the "king hit" claim was backed up by a fellow labor councillor who was there when it happened.
Latham's ex also felt in fear in his presence. Abuse isn't always physical and if it was John Howard who'd done it Latham and all the leftoid wankers would be in an uproar.

Latham is a fucking parasite and now everyone else knows it. Hoping to become the PM means that any aspect of your private life can be questioned.
What a fucking tosser he is...

Posted by: scott at July 5, 2004 at 03:43 PM

I... I don't think Scott likes Mr. Latham...

Posted by: Andrea Harris at July 5, 2004 at 04:29 PM

Come on Andrea, Scott's just a typical westie showing his affection for Mark.

Posted by: Freddyboy at July 5, 2004 at 04:38 PM

Media scrutiny? Not everybody agrees about bastardising personal lives, not even some of our mind-mates, people!

Posted by: jaems at July 5, 2004 at 06:17 PM

Come on, jaems, public figures are open targets. Labour has dished it out to all the Libs. Now they're on the receiving end for a change. Ya boo and sucks!

Posted by: Freddyboy at July 5, 2004 at 06:22 PM

Remember the media lynch mob over Downer's "Things that batter" jibe. Guilty only of a woeful sense of humour but the luvvies went ballistic. This is real violence and they're damned by their silence.

Posted by: slatts at July 5, 2004 at 06:55 PM

Look all Latham has to say to win public approval is, 'I am not happy about the way I treated my ex-wife. It was a bitter breakup. I hope I learnt something from it...' Etc. Nice sensitive GROWNUP things. It will show his ability to rise above obstacles.

Instead he goes into paranoid mode and starts lashing out blindly. The guy is unstable.

I used to be an ALP schmuck, I voted for KEATING for x's sake!

Every time John Howard lost back then he would concede defeat in the most generous decent way possible, accepting that the will of the people is topmost..etc. That's when he won me over. Gracious defeat. That's balls!

And the paranoid thuggish ALP have permanently lost my vote for their 'we wuzz robbed by a conspiracy...'etc ranting.

It's simple PR101, ALP folks.

Posted by: PoorMark at July 5, 2004 at 07:40 PM

I have no sympathy for Latham - don't get me wrong. The notion that public figures are open game is right. What Sullivan's article points to is more that it's gone beyond reasonability now, and I'm afraid I'd have to agree.

Having said that, I also think Latham's been given a free ride by the Australian media. The article was more to give the other perspective...
