YASSASSINATED

Check eBay in coming weeks for a bargain-priced secondhand wheelchair, with slight missile damage:

Israeli forces killed Sheik Ahmed Yassin, the founder and spiritual leader of the violent Islamic Hamas movement early today, witnesses and Hamas leaders said.

The move is likely to escalate more than three years of Palestinian-Israeli violence.

Israeli helicopters fired missiles at the wheelchair-bound Hamas leader as he left a mosque near his house at daybreak today, residents said, and Hamas officials and witnesses said he was killed.

Meryl Yourish has more.

Good shot. Ratso Rantissi will HAVE to show his mug now, or be usurped. Target lock time for the IAF...

So who is next? Arafat? Fingers are crossed!

Slight missile damage?! Oh my god, i spit up reading that one.

er, sorry to comment spam, but i must again point out the resemblence to another http://http://www.indcjournal.com/archives/000120.html">evil-doer. I mean, talk about freakin' separted at birth!

These Hamas dudes aren't too bright but perhaps there's a few other top dogs now thinking, "Golly gosh, could I be next on the list? Perhaps we'd better pull our collective heads in and sue for peace".

This could have benefits for Israel. It will bring 'martyrs' out by the score looking to commit atrocities. Israel is prepared and waiting. An angry Hamas is a careless Hamas so over the next few days and weeks we can expect quite a few stupid high-explosive dudes to be put of their misery. May be that's the part of the plan - smoke 'em out and knock 'em off.

Posted by: walter plinge at March 22, 2004 at 04:39 PM

This is sure to unleash lots of death and destruction.

On the other hand, lots of death and destruction were in the plans anyway.

Posted by: Ursus at March 22, 2004 at 04:43 PM

He's certainly the spititual leaderr of Hamas now.

So much for wheel chair access in Israel.

And here I thought Israel was promoting tourism.

Very good shot.

Posted by: Razor at March 22, 2004 at 05:23 PM

Still waiting for the Palestinians to grow up and kill Arafat themselves.

Posted by: aaron at March 22, 2004 at 05:32 PM

So now we hear his followers and other Palistinians talking about Israel "opening the gates of Hell" etc...

Little word of advice to you fellas (and other Arab states as well, I suppose). Remember one of the more important rules of international relations: never f$%k with a nuclear power, especially one which is located right next to you.

Jewish infidel devils you are the real terrorist. Islam cannot be terrorist. Allah cannot be terrorist. Only Jew, infidel, athiest and idolator can be terrorist. Woman is Satan's tool.

AKBAR THE GREAT

Posted by: AKBAR THE GREAT at March 22, 2004 at 06:02 PM

Wait, doesn't Akbar mean Great?

Posted by: Sortelli at March 22, 2004 at 06:04 PM

Did anyone else piss themselves when the Hamas spokesperson said that assassinations and building walls (sic) aren't the way to strive for peace? Who could take such a dumb arse seriously? Who goes around sending people in their teens and early 20's out as walking bombs? Killing that fucker was a step in the right direction. So who they going to target next?

Posted by: JakeD at March 22, 2004 at 06:12 PM

I'm dancing around the room with a beer in one hand and a scotch in the other, pausing only to drink from one or the other, or to put one down so I can give a V to Yassin's picture. This has absolutely made my day. I think I'm actually happier than when I heard they'd caught Saddam. This one goes in my screengrabs collection.

Oh and BTW, so-called Akbar the Great. If you're a troll, nice try. If you're for real, then fuck off and fix me a doner kebab or I'll have you stabbed. And if you think that woman is Satan's tool then you should move to Central America. They all look like Jennifer Lopez' and Salma Hayek's better-looking sister, and for some reason, they dig me. Satan? I lurve that dude.

Posted by: David Gillies at March 22, 2004 at 06:16 PM

Hopefully the founder and/or spirtual leader of Hizbollah, i.e. the charming fellow who said the truth "We're not attacking you (West) so you would offer us something. We're attacking to eliminate you."

I say it is time to start a collection so the IDF will be well-supplied with Hellfire and TOW missiles (The weapon of choice for gunships in the vermin extermination role.).

Apparently there were no civilian casualties. Looks like it couldn't have been any more perfect.

"opening the gates of Hell"? As if Hamas wasn't already using all it's resources to destroy Israel?

Posted by: Dan at March 22, 2004 at 06:52 PM

One of the reports I saw mentioned one bystander besides Yassin and his goons. And there were wounded.

Posted by: Sortelli at March 22, 2004 at 07:02 PM

Expect several letters in tomorrow's SMH deriding the IDF for 'murdering and innocent old blind cripple'.

Posted by: murph at March 22, 2004 at 08:08 PM

Did anyone else piss themselves when the Hamas spokesperson said that assassinations and building walls (sic) aren't the way to strive for peace?

Thats pretty gross isn't it...I didn't here that but one of the first callers coming through on the talk back station that I sometimes listen to was nearly choking on his own words which included something very similar to "can you think of anything worse than murdering someone when they are coming out of pray?" (the answer of course is yes, there are lots of things worse than that, one of which might be targetting a bus with "school" written on it!!)

Naturally he went on to splutter about Israels weapons being bought from the U.S so it was really all George W's fault.

Posted by: Jacob at March 22, 2004 at 08:15 PM

"can you think of anything worse than murdering someone when they are coming out of pray?"

Of course if it had been George Bush in the 'hot seat' after prayer then the caller would have been overjoyed.

About time they offed this fuck. Can anyone give a url where one can pay his disrespect?

Posted by: S.A. Smith at March 22, 2004 at 09:12 PM

There was a man called Yassin,

Inspired many a Hamas Assasin,

So the IDF got the shits.

and blew the cunt to bits,

And now the gates of hell, he's passin.

Posted by: fred at March 22, 2004 at 09:25 PM

YASSASSINATED??

Im sorry but we are talking about a person dying here.... ....ohhh I just got it! hahahaahaha

Posted by: ABC at March 22, 2004 at 09:30 PM

Hamas is now threating to attack the US for the first time. Another example of Arabs having the IQ of a snapping turtle. If they ever take credit for a terror attack against the US they will incur the wrath of the American people and Bush. The US won't ask but demand that Israel exterminate Hamas if that happens.

Posted by: Reid of America at March 22, 2004 at 10:08 PM

Predictably Hamas is vowing to open the gates of hell. What exactly does this mean? Are they vowing to kill every jew twice now?

Posted by: Craig Mc at March 22, 2004 at 10:25 PM

No Craig, they have to open the gates so Yassin can get through

Posted by: Dead Ed at March 22, 2004 at 10:40 PM

The pig-eaters, fornicators and dog-followers will know Allah's wrath. O infidel, can you not heed the words of Allah's messenger? All I hear from you are woman's words.

Next steps Israel should take:
1-Wait for the funeral of the cockroach, which is bound to draw his other insectoid terrorist friends out of the woodwork
2-Drop a few thousand gallons of napalm in the parade.

Posted by: madne0 at March 22, 2004 at 11:38 PM

Wasn't this the guy who was all excited about women joining the cause of suicide bombers? Back a little while ago when that mother of two blew herself up, he was out there welcoming women to the cause.

He apparently takes credit for every Hamas attack. Nice guy. Pretty crazy to think of a missile bearing down on some old genocidal psycho in a wheelchair.

Posted by: Dash at March 22, 2004 at 11:48 PM

The headline in the Australian reads:

Hamas spiritual leader 'killed'

Shouldn't it be:

Hamas 'spiritual leader' killed

He shouldn't have parked his van in the Mosque handicapped spot. It was a dead giveaway.

What happened to the "we love death" bit

Posted by: Ursus at March 23, 2004 at 04:22 AM

"What happened to the "we love death" bit"

Yeah, shouldn't this be a joyous occasion? I mean he could have died ignominiously--say, from a colostomy-bag explosion; instead his spirit now knows the beauty and purity of death that only martyrdom can bring.

Posted by: S.A. Smith at March 23, 2004 at 06:33 AM

"What happened to the "we love death" bit"

Um, DUH! They only love death when they do it to themselves.

Posted by: Bill at March 23, 2004 at 06:41 AM

The really ironic thing is that Yassin, unlike the splodeydopes, actually qualifies as a martyr now. Splodeydopes are simple suicides, they killed themselves, whereas Yassin was killed by others, arguably "for the faith"...

Posted by: mojo at March 23, 2004 at 06:52 AM

any chance we can send jesse jackson and al sharpton to intervene b/t hamas and Israel? now seems like a GREAT time to send the great agitators over there...

Of course they had to open the Gates of Hell. How else could they make it wheel chair accessable?
