DAMNED IF YOU'RE DOWD

Back in May, Maureen Dowd damned George W. Bush for claiming the threat of terrorism was reduced:

Busy chasing off Saddam, the president and vice president had told us that Al Qaeda was spent. "Al Qaeda is on the run," President Bush said last week. "That group of terrorists who attacked our country is slowly but surely being decimated ... They're not a problem anymore."

Dowd -- who doctored Bush’s words to make her point -- also mentioned US intelligence bragging about their work against terrorism, and "the administration's lulling triumphalism about Al Qaeda." That was seven months ago; now Dowd is damning Bush for claiming the threat of terrorism isn’t reduced:

"It would take one vial, one canister, one crate slipped into this country to bring a day of horror like none we have ever known," Mr. Bush says, in a State of the Union clip.

Well, that's a comforting message from our commander in chief. Do we really need his cold, clammy hand on our spine at a time when we're already rattled by fresh terror threats at home and abroad?

"It's the MoDo principle," writes Andrew Sullivan. "Attack 'em whatever they do, and hope no one will actually pore through your paper-trail."

"Well, that's...comforting...we really need his...hand on our...booby...breeding new ones."

(Yeah, Dowdification has gotten kinda old, but you just can't pass up a column with the word "booby" in it, now can you?)

*sigh* Dowd needs to be fired.

andrew sullivan would presumably know a lot about hoping no one is poring through your paper, or in his case electronic, trail. incidentally, this still cracks me up.

Yeah, roop, those faggots sure are something. I think every time any liberal gets caught in an inconsistency, you should yell, "Oh, yeah, what about that faggot Sullivan and his faggoty sex life?" Fight the good fight, roop.

yes, silly me to assume you might be aware of a little something called hypocrisy [same link]:

[Andrew Sullivan] has made a lucrative career of condemning gay culture as excessively sex-oriented, yet it turns out that nice little Andrew has some fairly unsavory pursuits of his own.

...

The point...is not that Sullivan should be condemned to a life of celibacy, or that he should have no privacy. The point is Sullivan's hypocrisy. He has built a career on railing at the supposed moral failings of others, from his fellow gays to Bill Clinton, while secretly practicing an extremely dangerous and irresponsible form of sex. He urges assimilation and traditional morality for other gays, while immersing himself in a subculture that most gays know to be hazardous to the whole community.

but seriously, in the ads sully describes himself as someone who likes "to milk loads with my power glutes". in other words, amusing.

they were confirmed to be sullivan by the radio station GayBC, which suggests maybe that homophobia wasn't a motivating factor.

When the left (or whatever it is roop belongs to) runs out of coherent arguments, they drag out the personal attacks with as much, if not more, zeal as the rightwing fascists they are always whining about. The Pure Ones are always more worried about appearances than truth, hence the squeaks of outrage that arise whenever someone catches some champion of theirs in a lie. And as well, the constant accusations of "hypocrisy" and so on. True, the leftoidoids aren't hypocrites: they will lie deliberately to your face for the Cause.

yeah, i like coupland in girlfriend in a coma, where he has one of the characters say:

"exposing hypocrisy in itself doesn't make you a moral person".

but then i wasn't exposing hypocrisy in itself; i was also laughing at sully's "power glutes".

Roop ... homophobia may not have been a motivating factor in the slur you've dredged up, but if you'd followed this disgrace you'd know what was. You're welcome to comment here -- you're clever, sort of -- but don't get all indymedia on us, or you're gone.

if you'd followed this disgrace you'd know what was

well i didn't, having just seen it mentioned a couple of times on sully watch, so do tell. hopefully it's more substantial than "they don't like sully's point of view", cause i already guessed that.

Talking of paper trails, didn't the one laid by Bush/Blair/Howard to justify bombing, invading and occupying Iraq lead to a nasty pile of weapons that "threatend the free world".

Any chance of an audit of that particular fraud Tim?

I suspect all you'll find is a confused looking donkey attached to a modified veg cart but, hey, at least make the effort. Otherwise, what else can any sane person conclude but that you are simply a big fat liar?

Roop is far ferom clever. If he was he'd know that Sullivan won the argument with the trolls about his sex life hands down. The only hypocrisy involved was that of the left, who stoop to personal attacks on the flimsiest of pretexts without the evidence to back them up.
