ALL IN THE FAMILY

Now it’s blood libel TV:

A television series broadcast throughout the Middle East by Hezbollah, a Lebanese group listed by the State Department as a terrorist organization, drew the department's wrath again Wednesday.

The episode of "Al Shatak" -- meaning "the diaspora" -- broadcast Tuesday night portrayed the killing of a Christian child on the orders of a Jewish rabbi so the blood could be used for the Jewish Passover celebration.

Earlier episodes of Al Shatak -- which featured various fantasies about Jewish global domination, Jewish plots to steal Arab land, and, for all I know, Jewish attempts to infiltrate the Australian cricket team -- drew rave reviews:

Lebanese viewer Hajj Hussein judged “al-Shatat” very good, “and very strong against the Jews.” He said he was watching it every night.

See what happens when people don’t have access to Fox News?

"...Hezbollah, a Lebanese group listed by the State Department as a terrorist organization..."

'Cause they might be a sewing circle or book club, y'know? Can't trust the State Dept. on stuff like this.

Also, the Hezzies have their own TV network? If I were Hamas, I'd be demanding some of that skimmed money from Arafat right now. The medium is the message, after all.

Tim,

Unfortunately, most of the Middle East does have access to FOX. Even as a life-long conservative, I've got problems with FOX... mostly dealing with their searing lack of professionalism.

Something the ABC can run Thursday nights now that 'Kath & Kim' is finished. (Unless SBS gets it first.)

OK, ilibcc, I'm giving my all new "non-offensive" persona a trial run here ...

Ahem.

Re your suggestion; I think the ABC gets a worse rap than they deserve. Although a lot of people find it biased, it's not *quite* THAT biased. Further, it does produce a lot of good shows, such as 'Frontline', 'The Games', and 'Rage'. So, credit where credit's due and all that.

It seems to me that these guys have quite a lot in common with Fox News.

But one of the common features of political zealots everywhere is their inability to recognize their similarity.

BTW - if Julien Wiener was the vanguard of Jewish infiltration of Australian cricket, does that suggest that Kerry Packer is a closet Zionist? After all, without WSC, Wiener would never have played for Australia.

Of course, the same cannot be said of his co-religionist Shaun Graf, who was selected for his 11 ODI's with all the WSC players available.

Joe, of course the ABC is not all bad, I occasionally walk through the sittingroom when someone happens to be viewing - mind you I do keep going - but I'm afraid it will continue to receive a deservedly bad rap while its blatant biasses seep through all manner of supposedly non-political programs; however, I take your point that it does some good stuff, although it should be noted that the ABC tried to kill off or sell its highest rating program ever - Kath & Kim - before it aired. (Not that its programs should all rate, or we'd end up with Australian Queer Idol in Pyjamas at 7.30.)

Actually, Julian Wiener played against the Pakis in 1980 after everyone was reunited. The team included Greg Chappell, Dennis Lille and Rod Marsh, as well as Wiener, Yallop and the other ACB players. So, to say he only played for Australia because of WSC is incorrect, and a deliberate and calculated slur against Julian himself.

Yeah but he was still crap. Lots of dodgy batsmen were doing the rounds in 1980.

To any legend watchers out there the storyline in the "Al Shatak" episode, the Jews using Christian children/blood ... is an old medieval tale, it has modern equivalents, such as gangs of blacks killing/chopping off the penis of a white boy when he goes to the toilet as a rite of passage, etc. The tale is a lot older and before it was Jews using Christian blood, it was Christians doing things to Jewish childern, and before that...

It's interesting that the medieval christian version of this tale should reappear on Hezbollah TV. Well I find it interesting anyway.

Unit - I stand corrected - in fact, I'm completely wrong, because I now see that Wiener did not make his debut until the 1979-80 series against England, when the WSC players were all back (the team in which he debuted included Laird, Chappell, Marsh and Lillee - though it also included non-WSC players such as Peter Toohey and Geoff Dymock, suggesting that class and form were not the only selection criteria).

For some reason, I had imagined that he made his debut a season earlier - maybe I was confusing him with Rick Darling, another mediocre blond-haired opening batsman (they actually traded that opening slot a couple of times) who made his debut in 1977-78.

But please believe that I posted out of ignorance, and not out of malice towards Mr. Weiner or those of his ethnicity.

But they all say that!

Mork- Thanks for reminding about Pter Toohey. I always condsidered the kinda poor man's Doug Walters.

Scott - Wiener was crap, but what do you expect from a Victorian.

You people watch TV? My, my.

Hell's bells man see what happens to people who don't have access to brains.

Even as a life-long conservative, I've got problems with FOX... mostly dealing with their searing lack of professionalism.

Compared to what? Certainly not any of the other news networks.

For that matter, what "professionalism"? News readers aren't licensed, aren't really trained, and I can't see how they are "professionals". God knows reporters don't seem to have any professional standards, and none of them have any kind of disciplinary board or other indicia of professionalism.

The only indicator I've seen overall on television news that points to some kind of professionalism is hair. All of them have that news-hair thing going. Maybe it's like Dean's stethescope -- in identifier of the profession.

"..various fantasies about Jewish global domination, Jewish plots to steal Arab land, and, for all I know, Jewish attempts to infiltrate the Australian cricket team..."

Interesting to see an example of self-evident truth wedged in between the rubbish as if they were equivalent.

Technically, it may not be a Jewish plot (and is actually opposed by many Jews), but the grabbing of land is not a fantasy.

I admit I haven't seen the show, nor do I want to, so I can't speak to a particular claim about land grabbing. Perhaps some of Al Shatak's claims about it are fantasy. However, the annexation of Palestinian land is real.
