GO PIES

Just finished an interview with Radio 3AK in Melbourne:

Interviewer: So what does it take to be a Collingwood supporter? What kind of qualities do you need?

Tim: You just have to be a little bit better than everybody else.

Am now disconnecting phone, packing suitcase, and applying for asylum in Iraq.

OK. I've offended as many people as Tim. Neener! I'm facing greater danger from Hurricane Isabel.

Go Pies!

Hmmmm, has Collingswood expelled any supporters, who didn't meet their criteria? That's the only way to prove that Collingswood fans are indeed a bit better.

Hey, Tim, can't you use your vast influence as a member of the media to get the Australia Football League to make a deal with ESPN to show games on American tv? They used to have a highlight show at least.

GO THE SWANNIES!

Port Adelaide - Suffer in your jocks! Go Pies

Posted by: Michael Gill at September 18, 2003 at 10:11 AM

Hmm, must come from playing without helmets.

Posted by: charles austin at September 18, 2003 at 10:28 AM

What happened to Sam and Greg?

Posted by: Tony.T at September 18, 2003 at 10:49 AM

As far as I know the only way to get watch most AFL matches in the US is to get Fox Sports World. Even their coverage is fairly sparse. And it is usually late at night.

Posted by: derf at September 18, 2003 at 11:17 AM

As I am already on a Yellow card for use of flowery turns of phrase to attack trolls I shall decline from accurately describing my hatred of the Colliwobbles. Then again there isn't a send off rule in AFL is there. . .

Posted by: Razor at September 18, 2003 at 11:21 AM

Jabba, the coverage is on FOX Sports World as derf says. We have all the details at AFANA and if you read my blog you'll learn why it's not on ESPN and isn't likely to be any year soon. Unfortunately.

Since we don't get the Footy Show in the USA what do they think about the Pies chances for the Grand Final?

Posted by: swassociates at September 18, 2003 at 12:10 PM

Tattooed, toothless, pissing on people at the pub, spitting on opposition players. Collingwood supporters are just a little bit better than the rest of us.

Actually, I do the supporters a disservice that was a member of the team that pissed on the girl at the pub.

Posted by: Alex Hidell at September 18, 2003 at 12:40 PM

It must all be a charade Tim: I can swallow the satirical car-loving Arab-hating conservative hard man act to a point - shit, if PJ O'Rourke's selling franchises we can't blame you for taking one up, but a fucking Collingwood supporter as well. Are you trying to channel pure evil or something?

Posted by: Eddie at September 18, 2003 at 12:43 PM

Alex, wasnt' that a Hawk? Whatever, fades into nappy piss stuff compared to Ex-Cat now Crow Ronnie Burns pissing into a girl's picnic hamper at the Geelong races.

Posted by: piewithsauce at September 18, 2003 at 12:47 PM

It was Aaron James. Soon after 'the incident' he was traded to Richmond.

Posted by: Alex Hidell at September 18, 2003 at 12:52 PM

I believe it was a charming character by the name of Aaron James (playing for Collingwood at the time) that pissed on a girl at a nightclub.

Posted by: Sil at September 18, 2003 at 12:54 PM

Doh! Alex beat me to the punch.

Posted by: Sil at September 18, 2003 at 12:55 PM

I would have thought the two main characteristics required by a dedicated Collingwood supporter would be an extraordinary capacity for dissapointment, and a preternatural tolerance for ridicule; for Sydney, see South Sydney supporter.

And the ability to drive other people's buses short distances.

Posted by: pooh at September 18, 2003 at 02:37 PM

The players I mean, not the supporters.

The supporters are bussed in from somewhere.

Tim, was it Phil Cleary who you did interview with?

Green Guide 18th Sept

"...Mr Cleary is using his program and webpages to promote a thorough-going radical socialist agenda; one which is demonstrably anti-Prime Minister Howard and Australia's foremost allies, George W Bush and Tony Blair. Cleary has a right to his views and 3AK management is free to permit him to do so. What they are not at liberty to do is slant the facts" writes Chuck Brooks, Robina Qld.

Questions arise: what the hell is Chuck up in Qld doing scanning metro melb radio sites for political slant?

Tim, were you joining Phil in the conspiracy against our fine leaders?

The people need answers! 'course, if it wasn't Phil, I'm hoist on my own petard.

Posted by: chico o'farrill at September 18, 2003 at 02:43 PM

Wasn't Phil. Was Peter and Wendy.

Posted by: tim at September 18, 2003 at 02:58 PM

Chuck spends his whole life scanning radio, tv and every other media form for commies; he is a former marine with a lot of time on his hands. Chuck used to be on a movie review show on local public broadcast UHF station Briz31, with some air-head hippy female whose name escapes me; Chuck was hilarious, and often would have the silly bint in tears or on the verge of stomping off the set nearly every week. Pity it's gone.

Posted by: Habib Bickford at September 18, 2003 at 03:15 PM

How can you take a sport seriously when it has a girly name like "footy?"

Posted by: Polly at September 18, 2003 at 03:47 PM

wehat about Boofy ?

Posted by: d at September 18, 2003 at 04:01 PM

I'm sure AK's three listeners got the joke,

Posted by: Margo's First 18 at September 18, 2003 at 04:05 PM

Ex-ABC refugee Doug Aiton is now on 3AK as is the eccentric Roland Rocchecioli who frequently chats on Sunday nights with Tony Abbott in between describing the trials of living with his ailing 92-year-old mother Beria.

Beats the hell out of Radio National. Maybe their three listeners have moved to 3AK.

Posted by: ilibcc at September 18, 2003 at 04:25 PM

Collingwood are a bunch of poofs.

Posted by: Mike Hunt at September 18, 2003 at 04:34 PM

Sadly for 3AK ilibcc, they would love to have Radio National's figures.

Their 0.7 registered in Victorian ratings today is almost tripled by the 1.9 registered by RN. As for local ABC, they continue their rise in popularity rising almost a point to 13.2.

Mothers, keep your daughters away from Victoria. Leftists under the bed, leftists at the tram stops...good god, leftists at the footy!

Posted by: chico o'farrill at September 18, 2003 at 04:40 PM

Radio National has a magnificent signal all over Victoria, nothing but the best for the ABC, the farmers LOVE listening to Phillip Adams.

3AK's signal extends to, like, Wheelers Hill or West Sunshine or somewhere.

Posted by: ilibcc at September 18, 2003 at 05:30 PM

maybe we could raise money for a new 3AK transmitter?

more people have to hear phil cleary undermining our leaders, and tim building 'em up! that's what i call balance.

Posted by: chico o'farrill at September 18, 2003 at 05:46 PM

Phil can be quite good. Having been a politician, he knows his audience is aware of his general stance and doesn't try to pretend he's always strictly impartial.
