INFIDELS

Re this site’s redesign, Power Line writes:

Australian blogger Tim Blair is one of the pioneers of the genre, and still one of the best. He has a newly-designed site with a penguin theme; it seems to be related to an Australian soccer team. Or maybe rugby, beats me.

OK. Penguin theme. Goddamn soccer. Power Line is begging for me to get all Hamas on their ass. So much murdering I need to do!

The new design stays until Collingwood is removed from the AFL Premiership contest, at which point the site will instantly revert to its previous elegant look. But we won’t be removed, because God and Fate and Love are on our side.

So is Buckley.

Hot 'Guins doesn't quite have the same ring. Does Tarrant play striker?

Posted by: Gareth at September 18, 2003 at 04:19 AM

So Tim, what happens to the site when the Pies win it all at the Grand Final?

Posted by: swassociates at September 18, 2003 at 04:50 AM

He must not read your site very often.I not even Australian and new that you're a Magpie fan just from reading your site. Onward to the Grand Final!!

Posted by: Vince at September 18, 2003 at 05:28 AM

A Magpie, not a Swan.

Posted by: Jonny at September 18, 2003 at 05:32 AM

Keep a close eye on any small, shiny objects, Tim...

Is the cheer "MAG! MAG! MAG!"?

GO THE SWANNIES

Posted by: llbb at September 18, 2003 at 07:34 AM

So it'll be back to normal after saturday then?

Good to hear.

Posted by: T. surprised at September 18, 2003 at 08:27 AM

Tim - If you go "all Hamas on Power Line's ass" does that mean you will accost his ten year old daughter and push her down the stairs? That's a more Hamas-like approach.

If you want to put some fear to Power Line how about "going all Tony Soprano on his ass"?

Posted by: timks at September 18, 2003 at 08:30 AM

Oh thats an AFL team's colours? I thought it was for west sydney magpies. What sort of Sydneysider are you Tim??

That being said I'm really going to have to get a handle on all this AFL stuff before I move to Mexico. I will perish when I get there.

Posted by: Caz at September 18, 2003 at 09:02 AM

Penguins!?! Well, if that's what they look like, blame whoever designed the Colligwood official site; that's where I nicked the little birdies from. I must say they didn't look much like magpies to me either, but we don't have magpies in Florida (we have grackles, a sort of small, loud crow -- I think they are the reincarnated spirits of the many retirees who have graced our condo'd shores). Maybe they are the Australian version of the magpie?

Posted by: Andrea Harris at September 18, 2003 at 09:51 AM

Well, I did in fact find & explore the Collingwood team site (originally in order to see whether Tim had matched their fonts, but Collingwood turns out not to be font-distinctive)& I saw there some photographs of players with American-shaped footballs. So is Australian football some sort of rugby or soccer with pigskins? What is it?

Posted by: ForNow at September 18, 2003 at 10:11 AM

Andrea, if Grakles are annoying crow like creatures who normally only prey on the young, weak and defenceless and are bloody loud bastards when you are trying to have a sleep in on a Saturday morning, then they may well be related to Magpies. Both the bird and the team. Now if you want a REAL team click Here.

Posted by: Todd at September 18, 2003 at 10:23 AM

Hey Vince - I was just asking if Tim was going to leave the site in this color motif. I have been a Pies fan since the 70's. Shepparton born and bred.

Posted by: swassociates at September 18, 2003 at 10:32 AM

A penguin? BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

I will actually be cheering for Collingwood on Saturday against the Port Adelaide Feral Swamp Monsters- and when Collingwood kick a goal I will say "Yay, go Penguins!"

Posted by: Scott Wickstein at September 18, 2003 at 10:53 AM

Australian magpie pictures.

Check the one where a magpie faces off with a kookaburra.

Posted by: ilibcc at September 18, 2003 at 10:55 AM

Or here.
Hope that works.

Posted by: ilibcc at September 18, 2003 at 10:58 AM

Hey where's that Buckley guy from originally?

He's from Collingwood originally right?

right?

Posted by: T.Surprised at September 18, 2003 at 10:59 AM

That, Scott, needs promoting. When Port Adel. walk out on to the scared turf, MCG, Victorians compliment them in the encouraging voice,`Hell, Swaaaampmonsteers'.And then, they add the literary device, bathos, by breaking out into loud guffaws.
I will glue the eyes to the idiot box in anticapation. A few cries of, `Yay, Penguins ', wouldn't go astray either - the nice touch of good humoured self deprecation as the penguins squish swampmonsters into the peat enmired in swamp.

Must stock up on the tinnies.

"Power Line is begging for me to get all Hamas on their ass."

Arse, Tim. A-R-S-E. You're an Aussie, remember?

"Arse, Tim. A-R-S-E. You're an Aussie, remember?"

Bwahahaha! The Evil American Influence has taken hold! (I, on the other hand, used the non-American colloquialism "nicked." Does this mean I am doomed?)

Posted by: Andrea Harris at September 18, 2003 at 12:33 PM

Site design should be gone on Monday then...

Posted by: Eddie at September 18, 2003 at 12:46 PM

Not doomed, My dear Andrea, evolved is the word you were looking for. Pretty soon, we will have you using the word coloUr and aluminium and actually being able to pronouce them correctly.

And when you finally realise that your sick perversion of rugby is a bastardised waste of valuable time, suitable only for the terminally insane and the maladjusted, then we will finally be on the road to progress.

One down, 250-odd million to go. :-)

Posted by: Todd at September 18, 2003 at 12:52 PM

T. Surprised,

He's from the Northern Territory.

Posted by: LD at September 18, 2003 at 01:21 PM

And which club did he play for FIRST?

It was Collingwood first right? right?

Surely their favourite son would be one of them, born and bred in a small hovel, raised exclusively on street scraps, killing strangers in exchange for a game of kick to kick?

Posted by: T. surprised at September 18, 2003 at 01:37 PM

Chuckling at this blog...
Penguins... hilarious!

Posted by: kae at September 18, 2003 at 01:51 PM

Southern Districts (NT).

He then played for the Port Adelaide Magpies, and then got drafted into a superior league. If you want to talk about his top-level career, he started at Brisbane and then onto Collingwood.

I'd say it's fairly obvious where his allegiances lie now.

Todd:

I don't follow sport(s), so you can say anything about American football that you like.

Posted by: Andrea Harris at September 18, 2003 at 02:20 PM

Oh, geez, the Ozzie equivalent of a Chicago Cubs fan.

You do know you get credit in purgatory, don't you Tim?

Posted by: Sandy P. at September 18, 2003 at 02:22 PM

LOOKS LIKE THE OFFICIAL SITE OF THE NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE UMPIRES TO ME.

Posted by: wallace at September 18, 2003 at 02:23 PM

Yes Eddie, and on Monday I also look forward to seeing every link to Tim renamed "tim blair, conservative, collingwood supporter and all-round loser"

Posted by: saint at September 18, 2003 at 02:45 PM

Sleuthing away here and one is almost certain: an evil glove puppet has infiltrated. A g.p. who is an evil genius, playing devilish hand against the penguins. There, Eddie, there is the enema .

Posted by: d at September 18, 2003 at 03:42 PM

Only collingwood supporters call their black & white stripes "colours". Everyone else knows black and white are shades. Silly collingwood.

Posted by: Jake D at September 18, 2003 at 05:17 PM

Silly, maybe, but that yucky aqua worn by the swampmonsters,or, penguin black and white, the latter is an advantage.

Posted by: d at September 18, 2003 at 05:23 PM

Still great content, but awful design. It looks like the site for dodgy fringe group of loons.
