Mentioned in this week’s Continuing Crisis column for The Bulletin: Saddam Hussein, George W. Bush, Al Gore, the Australian Naming Rules, Andrew Wilkie, Phillip Adams, and Stephen Crittenden.

Speaking of over literal Australian place names how could you fail to mention the great sandy desert in N.W. Australia which was naturally named the "Great Sandy Desert"?
I believe Phillip Adams was originally called "Big Hairy Plagurist" but I may be wrong.

Let's have a sweep. How many of the people who whine constantly about the "silencing of dissent" or "crushing of dissent" will this week write to the Bulletin's letter page demanding that Blair's column be removed for the crime of - wait for it - saying things they disagree with?

My money's on at least two.

Maybe Tim can provide a running total of those that write in but aren't published. Must be a few every wee.

The Great Australian Bight will now be known as Bight Australia. (It's where Australia ends abruptly at a cliff hundreds of kilometres long. If you visit, be careful because many people are so wary of the cliff that they forget the blowholes which occur hundreds of metres before the edge and are sucked in, cameras and all, never to be seen again.)

The Blue Mountains.

And its good to see the Uniting Church are letting in gay clergy. I don't know what they were so uptight about, the Catholic Church have been letting them in for years.
