Scotland becomes the latest member of the Global Deforestation Comparison club:

More than 23 million acres of the world's forests - enough to cover the whole of Scotland - are disappearing each year because of logging, mining and land clearance for agriculture.

Just FYI, Israel is the only country in the world that entered the 21st century with a net gain in its number of trees.

Now how could you possibly count each and every tree on the whole planet?

Never fear, Greenies will find a way.

Simple, James - you take the number of innocent civilians murdered by the Yankee imperialist agressor in Afghanistan and Iraq, multiply by the number of refugees that these conflicts would displace, then raise that number to the power of the number of degrees of global warming caused by capitalist greed, and you have your answer - Scotland!

On the TV here in Germany they've been running an ad where they use Spain in this category, if I recall correctly (the an-area-the-size-of-Spain-is-deforested-blahblahblah).

The ad depicts a happy family watching TV in their apartment, when chainsaws start tearing through the walls. The mother and children crouch under coffee table and the father goes and screeches at the chainsaws to defend his turf. It is, of course, a reference to gorillas and deforestation, et cet. Then they pan a warehouse filled with paper and wood products while an ominous voice describes the denuded areas of BC, Amazon, etc., as a gorilla's shadow looms across them. It's actually surprising well done. I can't remember who paid for it- probably the Greens.

Shocking, and this tree, for one, is seriously pissed off about it.

`Deforestation'....is occurring in countries wracked by lawlessness led by shambolic governments. But, deforestation smorestation. The reverse is happening.
Modern technology is reducing the amount of land to produce increasing quantitiies of agriculture commodities.Next, more land is being put under forest each year than is being cleared.
The greenies are another pack of lying polpotian scumbags.

Note to tree-huggers: Start worrying when "they" start refering to deforestation in terms of the size of Australia.

Send the greenies on a re-aforestation programme: let them plant trees at the north pole.Nay, make it their natioanl service duty. Each will be equipped with a wooly jumper, a falsk of juniper tea, some scrummy cold salad, a bucket, spade and a few thousand saplings each.Let them lead the way in rovering that evil bitch, mother nature.

Yehuidit, I seriously doubt that. If you would check the numbers I am sure that the United States, Scotalnd (mentioned in the article) and Ireland have all ended the century with more trees than they started with.
