PROTESTERS REQUIRED

I'll be appearing this weekend at Straight Out of Brisbane, a "multi-arts festival of independent and emerging arts, culture and ideas." My role, obviously, will be to crush any independent ideas as they emerge. Crush them, and then salt the earth upon which these heresies were spoken.

Only kidding, organisers! I'll actually be speaking, along with a panel of other invitees, on the issue of John Howard's cultural legacy. That's on Saturday. I think I have to say something on Friday, too. More details here.

Is there a cost to go along to this gab fest and assault hippies? I don't mind paying money for the pleasure of it, but I really don't want any of my hard earned going to anything with "progress, green, community or the like" in the title.

Give me a shout if you want to get lagered up and obnoxious.

Posted by: Habib at November 30, 2004 at 04:14 PM

Is the topic of debate, this?

"John Howard's re-election will usher in a an age of conservative tight-fisted Bible-bashing war-mongering bloody terror, in which forests will be strip-mined, the Arts gutted and children sold to Chinese Restaurants"

Discuss.

The lagering and obnoxiousness goes double for me, Tim. In fact, why don't we have a blog drinks for Brisvegas bloggers Saturday night

Posted by: Todd at November 30, 2004 at 04:35 PM

I agree. I'm in.

Posted by: Marty at November 30, 2004 at 04:48 PM

I'm tied up Saturday- and mistress is most angry if I miss my chastisement.

John Howards Cultural Legacy . Footy Gambling and Beer. Should be over quick so we can get back to some more culture.

I'm sort of perplexed Tim. Shouldn't Margo or Phillip Adams be presenting their views on John Howards legacy? How come you got the gig? Very strange Tim very strange. What's happening in Australia, a sense of political fair play by the elites? I don't believe it. You haven't been turned have you?

I went to the website and noticed one of your intellectual peers will be Merlin "Free th Mind" Luck.

Oooh, and Antony Loewenstein, Margonaut extraordinare!

The asphalt plant and chicken abbatoir are on standby.
Durn southerners comin' up here, tellin' us folks what ideas ter have.

Posted by: Habib at November 30, 2004 at 07:25 PM

The only thing that's stopping me from going is that it'll be just like any other ordinary day on-campus at uni...

Posted by: Marty at November 30, 2004 at 08:01 PM

Oh dear, Mary Zournazi calls herself a "philosopher" (I think she just means that she's got a phd in philosophy). Interesting line-up. I'm going to enjoy seeing Mr Blair in action.

"Straight Out of Brisbane …"

Guess it's better than "Bent and Buggered in Brisbane" …

Tim,
Can you ask them, "if your so good, how come you need to force people to pay for your stuff through tax?"

Well, that explains why Tim will be there. So, which one of these fools are you planning to reduce to a stammering and crying baby? And we want pictures of their intellectual destruction, you know. Video would be even better.

Posted by: PW at November 30, 2004 at 09:26 PM

If Merlin asks me anything, I'll tape my mouth closed.

This should be a fun deal; conservatives rarely get invited to these things, and the organisers have been helpful and friendly. Also, I haven't been to Brisbane for years.

If someone wants to organise a few drinks on Saturday night, count me in.

Don't forget the Dracula cape and the fangs, Tim. You might as well play up to the kind of stereotype/s of Conservatives that many of these people will inevitably have.

Richard :-)

So you're not judging the Walkleys then? Squeezed out by Margo Kingston and Phillip Adams no doubt. (See Andrew Bolt in today's Herald Sun, today's Walkley-trashing item online later today.)

Posted by: ilibcc at December 1, 2004 at 08:04 AM

How about Brekky creek hotel for a large number of beers on Saturday night? Any takers?

Posted by: Todd at December 1, 2004 at 09:13 AM

What shade of digital brown will your shirt be?

Posted by: richard mcenroe at December 1, 2004 at 10:50 AM

Mojo,

That's the one! Something like the beginning of Sideshow Bob's mayoral acceptance speech.

Tim,

Start with a light chuckle and then spend several minutes working up to full volume. Using the lectern to hold yourself up while you cackle looks good too......
