HOLLAND GETS WITH THE PROGRAM

Australian Prime Minister John Howard, 2001: "We will decide who comes here and the circumstances in which they come."

Dutch immigration minister Rita Verdonk, this week: "If you want to live in the Netherlands, you have to adhere to our rules."

When will America? Now, that's the question.

>"If you want to live in the Netherlands, you have to adhere to our rules."

Ha, the Dutch are late. Soon the "our" will be the Muslims and *she* is the one who has to adhere to their rules.

Posted by: jorgen at November 23, 2004 at 01:26 AM

Now that the election is over, will we finally take our borders seriously? And how is it that when a State refuses to follow Federal marijuana laws, we see an immediate injunction, but when localities openly state they will not enforce immigration laws, nothing happens? Will it take another couple of buildings to come down?

"You have to adhere to our rules."

Any more westerners killed and you will be put on double secret probation . . .

Posted by: DWC at November 23, 2004 at 01:46 AM

If you want to live in the Netherlands, you have to adhere to our rules.

Mistress Rita sounds very, very strict. Might this be just another game to the decadent Dutch?

Posted by: ethan at November 23, 2004 at 02:21 AM

For over thirty-five years, the only rule in Holland is that there ARE no rules. These people are light years from a simple comprehension of the issues involved. It's probably already too late for them.

Posted by: Crazy Chester at November 23, 2004 at 02:38 AM

How about just this rule: when new immigrants take the oath of allegiance, strap a lie detector on their arm.

Posted by: 2dogs at November 23, 2004 at 04:28 AM

Don't underestimate the Dutch. When they get riled up they can be very bad enemies. They are as hard as goat's knees and go the distance.

It may be too late but I think not. Think Boer War.

First Australia...now the Netherlands....who is next??!!??

On a scale of 1 to 10 of "Ultimate Trendiness" it is fairly evident to even this untrained eye, that Pauline Hanson inspired Xenophobia/racism is SO HOT RIGHT NOW! So hot, that it is giving Zoolander a run for his money. Next year at the Aussie Fashion Week we might even be lucky enough see Howard-esque barbed-wire gracing our run ways.....or not!

Who would have thought that these 1901 sentiments of right-wing selfishness and curelty would have, so unfortunately, become widespread and popular over the past century or so....oh well so much for progressive thinking springing from age and experience.

So whilst we are all on the band-wagon of vilifying the vulnerable....how about the minorities like indigenous groups, the homeless, the disabled, the homosexual...why should we only stop at immigrants and refugees..when there are so many groups to hate and oppress.

Pity the Indigenous Australians didnt get a chance to have a say on who should come to their country and on what circumstances. If we were to apply this Liberal-esque Xenophobia at the settlement of Australia, then generations later we wouldnt have the Tim Blair's of this world, desendants of immigrants and 'invaders' sitting behind the comfort of their computer screens, beating their drums of fear and hatred on such a hypocritical matter.

In conclusion in regards to asylym seekers I think we need to apply the old saying "There by the grace of God go I"....BE THANKFUL NOT ARROGANT AND HATEFUL

Regards
Corinne, Brisbane - 17

Corrine, you might want to cut back on the Leftoid Kool-Aid.

Unless you mean this this when you refer to "Xenophobia/racism"

Posted by: The Real JeffS at November 23, 2004 at 10:07 AM

"So whilst we are all on the band-wagon of vilifying the vulnerable,"
!
?
(yikes...)

Posted by: guinsPen at November 23, 2004 at 10:49 AM

So whilst we are all on the band-wagon of vilifying the vulnerable....how about the minorities like:
indigenous groups
You mean those same indigenous groups that as a result of bleeding heart leftist policies have resulted in generations lost to welfare depandance, leading to loss of self-esteem, pride and rampant alchaholism and drug abuse?
the homeless
Another suggestion that we somehow dont care about the poor, even though charity organisations such as the Salvo's are far better at helping people in need than government welfare has ever been.
the disabled
Even though the Howard government has initiated a plan to help disabled Australians find work, and hence give them something that many of them consider most precious, Independance and self-worth. As well as reducing the cost of government funded disability pensions?
the homosexual
Given that the Howard government was the government that gave Gay and Lesbian couples equal standing under the law to Heterosexual couples, explain to me how this means they are being oppressed?

I love how in the midst of Corinne's patchouli-and-crack-fueled rant she used the word "whilst." It lends an air of stale-scone-scented fraudulence to the rest of her spiel.

Posted by: Andrea Harris at November 23, 2004 at 11:06 AM

I know the left has warped the definition of truth so it now means any subjective perception appropriate to your worldview, and the word fact now means any hearsay that fits your dogma, but what are they trying to pass off as hate?

Corinne seems to be following the line that if you don't think like her, you're a hater.

And xenophobia now seems to mean a pragmatic approach to immigration.

I wonder how they define sanctimony?

Posted by: romeo at November 23, 2004 at 11:11 AM

Corrine... "On a scale of 1 to 10 of "Ultimate Trendiness" it is fairly evident to even this untrained eye, that Pauline Hanson inspired Xenophobia/racism is SO HOT RIGHT NOW!"

Explain in DETAIL how on EARTH demanding that immigrants OBEY THE LAW is xenophobic???????????

Posted by: mamapajamas at November 23, 2004 at 11:19 AM

Corinne, would you care to explain how insisting that immigrants refrain from murdering those who disagree with them, qualifies as 'Pauline Hanson inspired xenophobia/racism'?

And its 'rightwing cruelty' to demand that 'asylum seekers' be detained until their identity is checked?

Its probably 'rightwing cruelty' to be wary of people whose 'religious leaders' preach hatred and murder also.

Finally, may I suggest that you visit an aboriginal community and see for yourself what 30 years of leftwing idiocy has done for them. Child abuse, both sexual and physical, is rampant, along with drug addiction and alcoholism ; women are subject to constant violence from males ; there are now 2 generations of illiterate aboriginal children.

Howards policies? I dont think so.

I hate Corinne already.

Posted by: Crazy Chester at November 23, 2004 at 12:29 PM

"Hanson-inspired xenophobia is so hot right now" - of course that's why One Nation and Hanson got wiped out at the election.

Howard has helped indigenous Australians, he removed ATSIC.

I was reading through Corinne's post and expected the poster name to be "Aarrgghh"...hmm. Guess it wasn't a parody after all. Sure sounded like one, though.

"We will decide who comes here and the circumstances in which they come."

I'm planning a vacation to Down Under for next March. Is it absolutely essential to get permission for certain situations?

Posted by: BruceT at November 23, 2004 at 01:32 PM

Corinne writes, "Pity the Indigenous Australians didnt get a chance to have a say on who should come to their country and on what circumstances." Precisely right, Corinne. The first peoples to come to your land and mine could not control those who came after. As a result they were massacred, and their once vibrant cultures are now confined to reservations and museums. Is this fair or just? No, but that is how the world works: the strong do what they want, and the weak go to the wall.

Should we do what we can to alleviate the lot of those harmed by our ancestors' coming to these lands? Sure, though we must recognize that there are limits to what charity can accomplish.

Should we weaken ourselves and trust to the good intentions of those who will come after us? Hell no! Unless, of course, life in a bourqua or on a reservation appeals to you.

It's funny that through the sarcastic, rude and down right horrible replies to the comments of Corinne, you have just proved what she said was right on the mark.

Rather than discussing and debating you all resorted to name calling and abuse for someone's views that differed to that of your own. HYPOCRITICAL...I think yes. "Corinne seems to be following the line that if you don't think like her, you're a hater." Where it appears you all are the "haters" not Corinne who attempted to spark some healthy debate and for what to be insulted and vilified. I ask you if half of you were as well-read and intelligent at her age - I DOUBT IT BY THE LOW-QUALITY POSTS!! She was just expressing an extremely valid and well-thought-out opinion. She has more maturity and courage than the bloggers on this site put together. And people wonder why young people are so disenfranchised with the political process or current afairs, when youngsters take an interest in issues such as what Corinne did, full-of-themselves-semi-literate internet addicts shoot them down to fill the time of their 9-to-5-cubical bound-minimum-wage jobs.

Why dont you all take a long hard look at yourselves before shooting down the wisdom of such a birght girl. SHAME ON YOU ALL. But most of all, Shame on your ignorance.Because I know all i will see in reply to this post will be insults and abuse, but why dont you actually take a moment to think about what I said.

Mr. T, I do not like being called racist/xenophobe by someone jumping in the middle of a thread. Especially if someone says:

"So whilst we are all on the band-wagon of vilifying the vulnerable....how about the minorities like indigenous groups, the homeless, the disabled, the homosexual...why should we only stop at immigrants and refugees..when there are so many groups to hate and oppress."

Emphasis is mine. "vilifying the vulnerable"? Who? The Islamic terrorists that murdered one Dutchman, and threaten a Dutch politician? Or Mr. van Gogh? Funny, I don't recall villifying either. The latter because he is the victim, and the former because they villify themselves. If Corrine wishes to apologize for them, she should be ready to take a few darts.

Oh, and she extrapolated from terrorists to the homeless and gays...tell me, is that logical? Are Australia and America building gulags?

Hate, Mr. T? No. Disgust. Most (not all) of the people here agree that Muslim extremists are a world problem today. Not because we hate them Ay-rabs. Not because we's all Gods chillun 'cuz we wears shoes. Because those Muslim extremists have declared jihad on the West, and backed up their words with deeds, like Bali, 9/11, and Barcelona.

So in hops feisty little Corrine, all sweetness and light, calling us "racist/xenophobes" simply because we accept the word of the Muslim extremists at their word.

Disgust, Mr. T. Disgust at yet another fool who has drunk deeply of the leftoid kool aid, and ignoring the world around her. Disgust that she thinks a short admonishment will send us scurrying back to our caves to squat and gnaw on the bones from yesterday's kill.

Her condescending and insulting rant deserved the response she got. If she is upset by that, just think how upset Mr. van Gogh was when his throat was slit.

Reality is funny that way.

When does one become an indigene? One generation? Ten? One hundred? Where do the scales tip? Who decides? Who has the right?

Just askin’

Here's a great quote

"When someone calls you a “racist” it is the most graceless way of admitting he has lost the argument"

Posted by: Benjamin at November 23, 2004 at 06:21 PM

I wonder why Corinne isn't at schoolies week if she's a true blue Aussie 17 year old?

Posted by: Pauly at November 23, 2004 at 07:24 PM

I ask you if half of you were as well-read and intelligent at her age

I can't speak for anybody else, but I, in fact, was probably almost exactly as well-read and intelligent at age 17 as she is, judging from the fact that I was almost as much of a clueless lefty as she appears to be. I hope that helps clear up any potential misunderstandings you may have about the posters here.

Fortunately I've managed to outgrow it in the 7 years since. I wish Corinne the best of luck with finding her way into the real world, a wish that I'm sure most other posters will be happy to support.

Posted by: PW at November 23, 2004 at 08:03 PM

I agree with PW. That's exactly how I was when I was seventeen.

More's the pity.

I wonder why Corinne isn't at schoolies week if she's a true blue Aussie 17 year old?

Maybe she is.

Would explain the post - a drunk teenager posting from the internet cafe in downtown Surfers Paradise.

Posted by: Quentin George at November 23, 2004 at 08:31 PM

Go a bit easy on Corrine. She can spell and punctuate, unlike a certain member of the scribbling class who shall remain nameless.

That's probably the reason why it looked so much like a parody at first and not a true lefty rant. ;)

Posted by: Mikey at November 23, 2004 at 11:06 PM

Gee, Timothy, I hope Corinne let you shag her after that knight-like defense of her honor.

Posted by: Andrea Harris at November 24, 2004 at 12:12 AM

Damn you, PW! You had to go and remind me what an ass I was at 17. ;-)

Posted by: The Real JeffS at November 24, 2004 at 12:55 AM

When I was 17
I had a very good year
I had a very good year ranting
At the Right-Wing freaks
Who popped up on my TV
They were mean and scary
When I was 17

We were almost ALL like this at 17. Mark Twain said it very well: "When I was 17 I thought that my father was an idiot. When I was 24 I was surprised at how much the old man had learned in 7 years."

So Corrine has as good a shot as anyone else to break the Kool-Aid habit.

Posted by: Nightfly at November 24, 2004 at 02:38 AM

I hope that she does. God knows that we have a surplus of leftoids. Another moderate would be a welcome relief.

Posted by: The Real JeffS at November 24, 2004 at 04:11 AM

Corinne is only 17. Give here a break. Give her a few years and she will be as bitter and twisted as I am. Takeing joy in the bloody clubing of big eyed baby seals and the shameless blowing apart of the head of heathen Iraqi wounded terrorists.

Corinne, It's all good baby! Welcome to the world.

By the way. Canadian chicks suck.
