INEXPLICABLE DECENCY NOTED

The New York Times reports from Fallujah:

During the gun battle around the mosque, an Iraqi in civilian clothes who had been seriously wounded in the face appeared on the street waving a white flag. "Don't shoot, don't shoot!" he pleaded in Arabic. "I have a family with me. There are women in the car."

There were no obvious signs of an ambush, but two of the Iraqi soldiers said, "Just shoot him." But for whatever reason, the Americans held off ...

Comments Alan R.M. Jones: "For 'whatever reason'? How about because American soldiers don't usually make a habit of shooting unarmed people holding white flags, even if there is a risk of an ambush? The NYT takes this as an unusual event."

Well, since American soldiers are empathy-free moronic psycho-killers, there must have been a mysterious reason for their not shooting a person trying to surrender.

Because we know the US military is filled with white trash rednecks from red states and won't give Ted Rall the blow jobs he so desperately needs, that's why!

O Superman, I'm losing my mind...

The NYT makes a stupid leftoid comment slamming American troops -- this is an unusual event?

All us Americans are souless bastards who eat babies.

No doubt the Rovian mind-control rays were deflected by the women's hair-rays.

It was the white flag, I'm pretty sure. If the man had been waving a copy of the NYT, they probably would have shot him. And then eaten his babies.

The soldiers could clearly see the man was not from the NYT. There was no reason to open fire if he wasn't working with the enemy.

However, if the wounded Iraqi was a naked teenager, hobbling away with an empty rocket launcher, then the troops would have opened fire. And the NYT would have written their medal citation. A Bronze Star for valor; a purple heart for the paper cut filing the after action report.

Are you sure the Iraqi soldiers didn't mean "just shoot" the NYT reporter? ;-P

"Support the troops, imply they're cold-hearted killers"

I love the way, in the world of the New York Times, the Baathist insurgents are skilled fighters who, in a day of ferocious resistance, managed to kill.... two marines. By donning the uniforms of the other army (a Geneva convention violation by the way, that of course the NYT dosn't give a fuck about).

Has the US army ever faced such deadly opponents? Pretty soon this formidable Iraqi 'resistance' will rival the dreadful record of the German Werschmidt- I hear during the Normandy invasion over three US soldiers were killed!!!!

Fuck you, NYT, you fucking ignorant, chinless, treacherous Manhatten leftist trash.

When approached and asked about themselves, the soldiers reflexively lapse into robotic platitudes. "I joined the Iraqi Army to clean the terrorists out of our country," said a man who identified himself only as Muhammad, a Sunni Arab from Mosul. "I am proud to be doing this."

This NYT reporter "reflexively lapses" into anti-American, pro-"insurgent" writing. We know who he's rooting for, and it ain't us.

Amos,
Someday you'll tell us what you really think of the NYT. Until then, this'll more than do the job.

Shoot them?

The injured bastards were lucky the GIs didn't offer them cigarettes.

cigarettes can kill you, you know.

Next time the NYT runs an Abu Ghraib story, they need to be reminded of the soldier who could've killed a man with the white flag but did not cuz that's not how American soldiers make war.

Haven't I heard this story before?

Posted by: surly at November 15, 2004 at 03:07 PM

Hell, there were supposedly kids in the car. That alone should have sent baby-killer Amerikkkan redstate troops into a berserker rage reminiscent of Jenjis Kahn.
