In an otherwise standard Paul McGeough piece, the Sydney Morning Heraldís mope in the Middle East actually writes something positive:

The relative safety of the Afghan capital and a stunning demonstration of the people's yearning for a new life when they came out to vote in their millions on October 9 are proof that good things might happen in this crazy world.

Deposing murderous lunatics somehow leads to goodness. Itís just crazy, is what it is! Meanwhile, an earlier McGeough report has attracted some high-level criticism:

A senior Bush administration official has rejected as "nonsense" claims Iraqi interim Prime Minister Iyad Allawi personally executed six suspected insurgents in June.

US Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage said he believed he had evidence that the claim by two alleged unnamed witnesses, as reported on the front page of The Sydney Morning Herald and Melbourne's The Age on July 17, was not true.

Happy now, Paul?

McGeough, McGeough... he's a child molester isn't he?

The thrust of the article is standard McGeough Bush is a fool material with such profound lines as "there are huge differences and, alas, great similarities".

My favourite is the ending "There is a momentum here, but it is so fragile. There is peace, but it's a dangerous peace and the risk in all this naive talk of success, is that the world will move on."

Vision this. McGeough's 3 year old shows him a picture of a puppy and asks him if he likes it. Paul responds "It is premature to talk of liking your picture, lets put that off until you can keep within the lines".

I think they honestly prefer the Taliban.

The taliban fit their desire for a self imposed ruling class. The total nanny state with them in charge would be "different this time".

I'm suprised fairfax hasn't overhauled its entire editorial staff after their massive "intelligence failure" with regard to the election.
