PRAY FOR ALAA
Rosemary writes:
I have learned that one of my friends has been shot and is in a hospital in Iraq. We met through the internet blogosphere, and I have never seen him. Yet my heart is sick with sadness.
More information here.

I'm always a little suspicious when some third party says it was a bullet from a Humvee that hit him. It is not likely that our forces are shooting in the direction of a hospital unless it happens to be a ways from the fighting. Of course it is possible, but for a Humvee to be firing at a hospital so close that a witness could see the shot, doesn't pass the smell test.
In any case, my prayers go out to ALAA and his family.
Posted by: EddieP at October 5, 2004 at 06:51 AMThe joys of a war zone. I am increasingly hopeful that we are beginning to cleanse these areas finally, then this will become a rarer circumstance, wherever the bullet actually might have come from.
Posted by: JEM at October 5, 2004 at 07:02 AMHumvees are equipped with .50-caliber machine guns. Since Alaa is alive, we can presume he was not shot with one of those (unless the bullet went through several masonry walls first). It could have been an infantry rifle, of course.
Is this the Alaa of messopotamian.blogspot.com? Either way, best wishes for his recovery.
Posted by: dipnut at October 5, 2004 at 10:50 AMProbably not. He posted to his blog on a week ago Friday, the shooting happened three weeks ago.
