Alaa was a good source of information for us all. It is a tragedy if he dies.

I'm always a little suspicious when some third party says it was a bullet from a Humvee that hit him. It is not likely that our forces are shooting in the direction of a hospital unless it happens to be a ways from the fighting. Of course it is possible, but for a Humvee to be firing at a hospital so close that a witness could see the shot, doesn't pass the smell test.

In any case, my prayers go out to ALAA and his family.

The joys of a war zone. I am increasingly hopeful that we are beginning to cleanse these areas finally, then this will become a rarer circumstance, wherever the bullet actually might have come from.

Humvees are equipped with .50-caliber machine guns. Since Alaa is alive, we can presume he was not shot with one of those (unless the bullet went through several masonry walls first). It could have been an infantry rifle, of course.

Is this the Alaa of messopotamian.blogspot.com? Either way, best wishes for his recovery.

Probably not. He posted to his blog on a week ago Friday, the shooting happened three weeks ago.

Could the "some asshole" be banned?
