TEN (OK, ELEVEN) PER CENT TERESA

Under the hated Bush regime, evil rich people pay less tax. One evil rich person in particular:

Democratic presidential nominee Sen. John F. Kerry reported $395,338 in income last year and paid $90,575 in taxes. His wife, Teresa Heinz Kerry, heiress to the Heinz food company fortune, reported income of $5.1 million last year and paid $587,000 in taxes.

Bush last year reported income of $822,000, on which he paid 28 percent in federal taxes.

Which is a substantially higher rate than paid by the widow Heinz -- who, judging by this line, is as grand a flip-flopper as Long Jaw McGraw himself:

The Democratic machine in this country is putrid.

Wonder if Teresa is available for the 2008 Republican convention?

Maybe Teresa claims John as a deduction on her taxes? All those hair dos and Botox injections must be deductible as well.

If I'm not mistaken, nearly half of Tahrayzah's income was from tax-exempt bonds. Whether that was included in the 5.1 million figure, the story doesn't say (I suspect not). Not surprisingly, these bonds would greatly increase in value if the tax increases Kerry has suggested are passed.

Shocking, ain't it?

Spiny, you are absolutely right. More than half her reported income was in tax-free bonds. Some more detail here. (Note that I only mentioned the aggregate $750k, of which $587k was federal income tax).

Yet even on the taxable income, she reported nearly three times Bush's income, yet paid only 25% vs. Bush's 28%.
