SADDAM PLAYS TOUGH
You don't know Tiger Hand?
(Via Andrew Lloyd)
Posted by Tim Blair at July 4, 2004 01:07 AMThis is the most fitting punishment there could ever be for somebody like Saddam Hussein --- to be an object of ridicule to the world. I sure hope somebody shows him this. It will affect him far more than a thousand videos of his victims.
Posted by: Rebecca at July 4, 2004 at 02:05 AMApologies for going off topic. Corporal Hassoun was murdered this morning

Have you ever had someone try to pull Dynamite on you? It's the index finger. Blows up Rock, Scissors cuts the fuse, and I can't remember what the deal was with Paper. When my buddy pulled that one on me, he found out that Fuck You (middle finger) beats Dynamite.
I dunno Rebecca. It was funny, but it wasn't humiliating.

Posted by: 2dogs at July 4, 2004 at 03:11 PM2dogs: This sentence jumped out at me:
the invasion of Kuwait was justifiable after all, (more so than Iraq’s current occupation) Saddam had asked Kuwait to stop stealing Iraqi oil for a decade and Kuwait under US protection refused to negotiate.
....?
Johnny, if you're asking about Kuwait stealing Iraqi oil, it may be true. Kuwait was accused of slant drilling - drilling at an angle across the border into Iraq's oilfields. Whether they were actually doing this or not I don't know.
But that was the pretext for the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait. (sarcasm) And obviously it's more justifiable to invade a country for slant drilling than it is to save the people from a vicious tyrant. (/sarcasm)
Posted by: Pixy Misa at July 4, 2004 at 04:33 PMIt was alllll about oiiiillllllll! But that was okay then!
Posted by: Sortelli at July 4, 2004 at 05:08 PMAnd although I have no education in this area, the entire idea of "slant drilling" seems absolutely ludicrous. What, all the Iraqi oil is on the border? Was Kuwait using those super secret oil sucking machines to slurp all the oil out of their secret network of slanted oil-stealing tunnels?
Posted by: Sortelli at July 4, 2004 at 05:10 PMI enjoyed that. had a good laugh.
Cant be serious all the time.
Stand back guys, Andrea's feeling particulary testy this evening...
(Now do I win the prize for bad joke of the day, or can someone do - uh - worse?)
Posted by: TimT at July 4, 2004 at 11:41 PMWhat I meant was, that no tyrant can stand being laughed at. What we think of as merely funny, is massive humiliation to a megalomaniac like Saddam.
Now, since I've been keeled with all of you, I think I'll go lie down.
Posted by: Rebecca at July 5, 2004 at 04:04 AMSlant drilling seems to be a viable technique (based on a fast Google search), but I agree, the issue was a excuse for the invasion of Kuwait. Iraq (or at least Saddam) considered Kuwait to be part of Iraq. God knows there's plenty of oil in Iraq.
It's not surprising, as Saddam's role model pulled a similar stunt when he invaded Poland -- Hitler manufactured border incidents as an excuse to the international community.
Posted by: The Real JeffS at July 5, 2004 at 04:32 PMOf course slant drilling is the cause! Didn't you see the Simpsons!
(Oil discovered at Springfield Elementary, while Skinner and his staff are going on about how they'd use the money, Mr Burns sets up the slant drilling beside Moes and steals the oil. The only one who ended up benefitting was Barney, inhaling the funes from the drilling)
