DRIVING MISS CRAZY

Germaine Greer finds a sound reason for Muslim women-driving bans:

I get a bit worried about certain heavily veiled ladies driving because they have no peripheral vision at all. You can understand why in some countries they are not allowed to drive.

Ah. It’s a safety thing.

The woman is a walking anti-drug ad.

The left is beyond parody.

Q: How do you make a leftist look absurd?
A: Quote him verbatim.

That's the stupidest thing I ever heard.

Ditto for Saddam's policy of surgically removing hands from some citizens. Every one of 'em was a bad driver.

Posted by: CurrencyLad at June 24, 2004 at 01:28 AM

If memory serves me correctly, the worst of the drivers were "shredded".

Why aren't peaceful Arabs rising up against the hateful ones? When hateful Christians kill, we take care of them.

So if we take Germaine Greer and put a sack over her head because she's just too damn ugly for her little-boy lovers to look at, we can take away her driver's license?

Posted by: richard mcenroe at June 24, 2004 at 01:56 AM

Why is Germaine worried about car drivers at all? After all, she gets around on a broom.

Posted by: Alex Robson at June 24, 2004 at 02:24 AM

Can Germaine Greer also explain the local ordinances governing explosive belts ?

Posted by: Carl in N.H. at June 24, 2004 at 02:39 AM

So apparently is perfectly alright that women are forced to wear black gunny sacks, which in turn justifies denying them freedom of movement.

This is supposed to be a feminist?

As a person who was, and still is, for equality for men and women alike, I can say that Germaine Greer is the stupidest numbcunt to ever live.

Posted by: ushie at June 24, 2004 at 02:46 AM

I don't believe that there could be two people so stupid. Has anyone seen Germaine and Margo in the same room together at the same time?

Posted by: Ernie G at June 24, 2004 at 03:04 AM

Ernie:

Yes.

So GiGi puts the cart before the horse.

Then sets the cart on fire.

And shoots the horse.

Cool!

Germaine Greer is one of those annoying women who will write an entire book bemoaning the sexism of fat construction workers whistling at my ass when I walk by, yet seems to find justification for an entire civilization (and I use the word looslely) subjugating half of their population to a position just below that of dog shit.

When did feminists become so anti-female?

Posted by: Emily at June 24, 2004 at 04:49 AM

Emily:

When construction workers stopped whistling at their arses.

Thought this quote from Malcolm Muggeridge was appropriate:

"Liberal minds flocked to the USSR in an unending procession, from the great ones like Shaw and Gide and Barbusse and Julian Huxley and Harold Laski and Sidney and Beatrice Webb, down to poor little teachers, crazed clergymen and millionaires, drivelling dons, all utterly convinced that, under the aegis of the great Stalin, a new dawn is breaking in the world, so that the human race may at last be united in liberty, equality and fraternity forevermore . . . These Liberal minds are prepared to believe anything, however preposterous, to overlook anything, however villainous, to approve anything, however obscurantist and brutally authoritarian, in order to be able to preserve intact the confident expectation that one of the most thoroughgoing, ruthless and bloody tyrannies ever to exist on earth can be relied on to champion human freedom, the brotherhood of man, and all the other good Liberal causes to which they had dedicated their lives . . . They are unquestionably one of the marvels of the age . . . all chanting the praises of the Dictatorship of the Proletariat, and of Stalin as its most gracious and beloved figurehead. It was as though a Salvation Army contingent had turned out with bands and banners in honour of some ferocious tribal deity, or as though a vegetarian society had issued a passionate plea for cannibalism."

What's Germie's ideas on the risk to other road users posed by deranged menopausal irrational misanthropic old bats?

Especially if they're driving a vehicle named after their most prominent feature?

please stop posting this! i spilled beer laughing at this idiocy.

I just wish women wearing burkas were banned from driving in Australia. A few weeks ago, I saw a woman wearing a burka - not just the veil, but the full Taliban-style burka. She would have had no peripheral vision whatsoever, and her forward vision would have been compromised by the gauze face covering.

And if I were to drive around with a big doily over my head, I'd get arrested.

Posted by: steve at June 24, 2004 at 06:51 PM

Burkas make their wearers look like the Grim Reaper. You can’t readily communicate to someone who chooses to remain faceless.

As for being able to drive without seeing where you’re going, that's not a problem. Rear view mirror accouterments and stickers obliterating the rear window may be technically illegal and render the driver as good as drunk, but that hasn't stopped anyone so far.

Mrs. Greer is correct. In Islam the safety of the woman is the paramount concern. The woman is considered sacred and must be protected at all times from dangers and satanic influences.
