VIDEO QUIZ

Evan Coyne Maloney is kind of like a right-wing Michael Moore, except friendlier, slimmer, and funnier. And he gives away ketchup and waffles instead of eating them.

Just wondering why mentioning 'slimmer' was important to you?

Posted by: Ron at March 26, 2004 at 09:24 AM

because moore is a obnoxious porker ;)

Posted by: capt joe at March 26, 2004 at 09:29 AM

Oh...so THAT's why Moore's left-wing? :-)

Posted by: Ron at March 26, 2004 at 09:44 AM

Ron, you are OBVIOUSLY not grasping the significant political irony of Moore's weight: how can Michael Moore be a man of the people, when his consumptive habits clearly indicate that he is one of the most craven recipients of capitalism's uncaring largess?

Blair doesn't make fun of him just because he is fat, rather because his fatness signals the hypocrisy of his message.

DUH.

Posted by: Bill at March 26, 2004 at 10:11 AM

Hmm....going on reports of the increasing obesity of the average American, I would have thought Moore a perfect representation of the US 'man of the people'.

Posted by: Ron at March 26, 2004 at 10:16 AM

Ron, I think Bill was being sarcastic.

Posted by: Mork at March 26, 2004 at 10:18 AM

It's interesting that there is a link (in the Western world) between obesity and poor socio-economic conditions.

Pity the poor, they have too much to eat!
what a wonder it is to be poor in the west in the 21st century.

Moore is a jackass, a poseur, hothead, employee-mistreater and beyond-fat bastard. That is why it's important. Your German Chocolate Cupcake with Macadamia Nut Sprinkles consumption is fair game when you flap your jowls as much as Messr. Moore does.

Now, before anyone cries "why won't you engage his message and not the man? Scared?" - know now that the answer is hell, no. None of the comparisons Tim made have anything to do with either filmmaker's "message", so I don't know why the rest would get a bye. Maloney also dresses better, and considering the probable income disparity between him and Moore, that speaks volumes about the genuineness/self-respect of each. Fat-assedness is funny. Sorry about that, Ron. Jeebus didn't ask my opinion when He decided what was Funny.

Enjoyed Evan's film. Hope he makes some more during the year. (and beyond)

Posted by: john at March 26, 2004 at 11:08 AM

Actually, being fat in the USofA is not always indicative of eating too much. Often, it's a case of poor diet (e.g., junk food) combined with the lack of exercise.

You know -- laziness.

Not always, there are medical conditions that cause weight gain.

For Michael Moore -- it's laziness.

That guy in the video who said "Clinton said that right before they impeached his ass"... man, was he the Ageing Stoner From Central Casting or what??!! Peter Jackson doing a cameo on one of those Simpsons

Posted by: Uncle Milk at March 26, 2004 at 11:36 AM

Maloney is also distinguishable from Michael Moore by not being a lying sack of shit.

I wonder what the point of sites such as this are
When 99% of the commenters agree with each other.

It's just a back-slapping, prop-each-other-up circle-jerk session.

Posted by: Ron at March 26, 2004 at 12:25 PM

Ron, you seem miffed at being left out. Well, standing back and making bitter, sarcastic commentary won't get you the release you obviously crave. So give a glad hand and join in the fun!

I'm sure you'll get the hang of it in no time -- you seem experienced at doing it solo.

Posted by: Andrea Harris at March 26, 2004 at 12:55 PM

Ron, if you want to make a point and defend it, please do. If I haven't got time to do it for you, what with one hand back-slapping, another other-propping, and the third hand buffing the banana. I agree with you - if this is, in fact, your thesis - groupthink isn't good. So never mind the other posters, I answered your question. In fact, and this is perhaps a disservice to you, I answered other questions that you didn't ask. Sorry. So why not tell me why you asked your question?

Posted by: Screamapiller at March 26, 2004 at 01:08 PM

Ron, Americans are fat because Americans consume the addictive sweetener fructose in their soft drinks ... coincidentally put there by ... yes, that's right, CORPORATE America, enabled by their Zionist Rethuglican allies.

Isn't all of this clear to you?!

Posted by: Bill at March 26, 2004 at 01:09 PM

Hey! I'm not fat. I have really, really big bones and a thyroid problem (or something.)

"Just wondering why mentioning 'slimmer' was important to you?"

Ron,
I'm not sure how often you visit Blairdom, but regulars are all too familiar with Tim's penchant for LONG LUNCHES with EXPENSIVE WINE. I think what you have shrewdly identified, is a case of pathological "blubber envy".
Reflexive opposition to Moore's positions is Tim's way of coping. That Moore is invariably peddling frogshit is beside the point.
Admitting it, Tim, is the first step to beating it.

Posted by: fidens at March 26, 2004 at 01:18 PM

All posters at this site do not agree with one another. I think Michael Moore would make an excellent Jabba the Hut in the next Star Wars film. I don't think anyone else here agrees with me on that.

Further, this site isn't nearly as bad as the DemocraticUnderground site. They pretty well say in their posting statement that if you think GW Bush is doing a good job, don't bother wasting your time with any posts, you will be banned.

The 'GW lied business' is a load anyway. Or let's say Albright, Gore, Clinton, Bush, et al all lied and we can cover all of them.

At least, that's how I see it...

Posted by: zzx375 at March 26, 2004 at 01:18 PM

zzx375 -
It's funny that you mention that, since I drew a pretty picture indicating the very same idea!

Posted by: Bill at March 26, 2004 at 01:24 PM

Hey, Moore's fatassosity is an important part of the product he is selling. It's his built-in defense mechanism whenever someone accuses him of being a wild-eyed egomaniac. He claims that he could not possibly be a self-important grandstanding blowhard desperate for fame because he's a fat and dumpy ... um ... self-important grandstanding blowhard.

We're only helping to secure his brand identity.

Yo, Ron!

If you post in an open forum like this, expect one of three results:

1. Someone agrees with you.
2. Someone disagrees with you.
3. Everyone ignores you.

#1 and #3 are easy to handle. Treat #2 as an exercise in debate, and you'll get along fine.

Did you also wonder about Al Franken's book "Rush Limbaugh Is A Big Fat Idiot"? Or do you only wonder about descriptions of people you agree with?

Posted by: Jim C. at March 26, 2004 at 03:11 PM

Don't wonder too much about Franken, he'll tackle you.

Posted by: Sortelli at March 26, 2004 at 04:26 PM

I think Ron is probably a fan of Hesiod's Counterspin Central. Hesiod loves to talk about conservatives and "circle-jerks". It's something of a perverted obsession.

Posted by: Peter S. Chicago, IL at March 27, 2004 at 01:38 AM

Well I'm fat and I give Tim permission. I'm also a liberal, but whole-heartedly endorse the war on terror (including Iraq). Ron, I tend to agree with you. I don't think that Moore's weight is any sort of emblem of his hypocrisy; and continually pointing out the obvious but trivial will only diminish the point being made, whether it's me, you, Tim or Al Franken doing it.
