LAFFS FROM THE LEFT

According to Vanity Fair, all the best blogger jokes these days are coming from lefty sites.

Not sure if this place was among those surveyed; take a look, anyway. Or check out notoriously humourless right-winger Frank J. interviewing John Derbyshire.

John Derbyshire is fantastic. Nothing more to say.

Nonono, what they meant to say was all the best blogger jokes are lefty sites.

After all, Tim, what would you do for material without them?

I try to do a serious interview for a change and everyone laughs at me. That's it! I'm becoming a lefty!

No Oil for Mumia!

I sent off an email last month asking VF to return to what they do best: Cover celebrity criminal trials, celebrity decor, celebrity deep thoughts, and leave the politicking to people who can do it.

Graydon Carter seems determined to kill irony in his magazine.

If ever I'd kill for an opening its on that 9/11 inquiry going on now.

"Mr Traps could you tell us what you knew prior to the 9/11 attack?"

"......koff....thank you. I'm sure that I knew about the Jackson family issues.....Mike sure to grip a kid, Janet to show a tit, you get a feel for this kind of thing.......I knew Enron was a feisty bitch but the share was itching so people were scratching too hard.....came up dreck.....SORRY!!! Don't interupt me I never spoke when you were waffeling about Neon Cons....which I imagine must be those luminous suits the prisoners wear.....Wait!! Now I remember the FBI gave me a list of all Democrats having extra-marital affairs...wait, I think I brought it with me.....no that's the CIA kickback list during Bill's administration.....don't rush me.....Democrat wartime deserters, Bill's top 100 Bitches.....where you going....fuck off I'll find it....get those cuffs out of my face.......

I was born to testify!!!!!!

Yeah, that Democratic Underground site is a riot. Those folks are always full of good humor.

I dunno. I just heard of a joke on a blue blooded righty site (the Massachusetts GOP site):

John Kerry: I voted for him before I voted against him.

Seemed pretty funny to me.

Seriously, where are these funny lefty sites? Most of the liberal blogs I know of - Josh Marshall, TAP, Crooken Timber - seem remarkably humorless to me. Any suggestions?

I find that the pro-war lefty uk blog, Harry's Place is frequently amusing.

Posted by: Ross at March 24, 2004 at 05:49 AM

The Poor Man is the only funny lefty I can think of.

Funniest person in the blogosphere and way too hip for predictable old VF: www.allahpundit.com

There are funny lefties everywhere; they must be funny- why else would the ABC hire so many of them? Just llok at the range- The Glass House, Enough Rope, Stand Up, the assorted gibbering gerbils on JJJ, Kerry O'Brien, Tony Jones; as I said- everywhere, and all of them side-splitters! Then of course, there is the all-time laugh 'til I shit myself genius, Margo Kingston. Anyone who says leftists are humourless idelogues with all the wit, carm and personality of a damp soap dish just isn't listening correctly.

Well, if you expand the definition of "funny" as "you laugh at them" then lots of lefty sites are humorous, if unintentionally so.

And then I saw that Pixy Misa already had this ages ago. Oh well, uh -- great minds think alike on a time delay! And since it's still March 23rd where I am, I still thought it first! So there, heh heh... heh...

Lefties are all so freakin' serious, but in a deeply unserious fashion. Their so-called comedy is simultaneously ponderous and glib, which is a neat trick. P. J. O'Rourke (one of the funniest men ever to have drawn breath, and a conservative to boot) said that seriousness was stupidity gone to college. And if you want an existence proof of screamingly funny right-wing/libertarian blogs then there's, well, aforementioned Frank J, this one RIGHT HERE, Lileks (Lileks for Pete's sake!), Dave Barry, Bunyip, the Yobbo, Treacher, Allah (I've actually cried laughing at some of his stuff), Peter Briffa, Andrea, etc. etc. ad libertam. Who's funny on the Left? Oliver Willis? 'Like Kryptonite to stupidity'? 'Like hostage to fortune,' that slogan. And we all know how rib-tickling Al Franken and Tud Roil are, don't we? Not to mention Mike Moore, Janeane and Margaret frickin' Cho.

Bickford at 'Paul and carl' is funny ..(funny for a queenslander anyway).
