Warne is on 499 wickets. One more to beat the chucker to 500. Go Warnie!!!!

Posted by: Todd at March 12, 2004 at 04:11 PM

When Warnie reaches his 500, (he's now on 499), I shall wrap my self in the Aussie flag, go down on to my kness, and, in a praying mantis position, chant "Warnie, Warnie, Warnie" for all eternity.

Dag! Those wickets are falling like rain in rainy season, man. When the West Indies recover their former glory, I'll have a few chest beating things to say. Till then, hope you guys win.

Especially the chucker out for a golden duck to Magilla.

Throws a bat worse than he throws a ball.

You know, I can never tell how much of this is real cricket-speak, and how much is you Aussies making fun of all your American readers who have no idea what the hell you're talking about.

Posted by: Independent George at March 13, 2004 at 12:25 AM

Sorry, George, and for US readers, an explanation is in order.

To understand all this secret Oz business, you have to be initiated at puberty (or earlier) preferably in line with the wicket, (always North/ South) but anywhere in the outer will do.
You must be decked out in the Oz tribal dress of flop hat, stubbies , thongs and zinc, and do the Dance of the Flamers or, at least have a chunder, at stumps on the last day at the MCG in Bay 13 or on the Hill at the SCG.
The more mates you have with you, the greater the status.

"Damned colonial yobbo" is the ultimate accolade, especially when delivered by our English guests in a fit of pique.

Lesser venues such as the WACA or the Gabba are acceptable, if you live in the bush.

Special status is achieved if your ritual initiation is during an Ashes series, and the Poms have gone down the gurgler.

Obviously, having seen this abbreviated explanation, you will understand why cricket is considered to be the sport played by Gentlemen.

Congrats, guys. Todd, it's when. The Bajans have a new pace bowler, good line and length, consistent. We'll be seeing you guys soon.
