NO PEACE FOR GERHARD

Gerhard Schroeder is to step down as chairman of Germany's Social Democrats, reports David Kaspar:

Schroeder was elected Chairman of the SPD just last November. He can still be Chancellor, but of course this is a major political desaster for him, the coalition Government and the SPD. Traditionally in Germany a Chancellor should be Chairman of his party. His political position is weakened if he's not.

But the experts told us it would be the pro-war leaders who’d be in trouble ...

This is very interesting. As a young lawyer, Schroeder represented leftists like Horst Mahler of Baader-Meinhof, part of the baby boom generation that came to be known as the 68ers. Is this the end of an era? What will come next?

Dance with Chirac and forever after be a wall-flower. It's what he gets for trying to play with the cool kids.

I like the box the munchkin is standing on. I wonder if Herr Schroeder will be asked to step down as leader of the Lollypop Guild as well.

Tim, Tim, Tim. Schroeder is in trouble for trying to implement welfare reforms. The pro-war leaders ARE in trouble for their pro-war stance. Haven't you noticed?

Actually, didn't the Foriegn Minister (a Green) once have as a roomate someone in jail for killing a cop?

No. John Howard isn't in much trouble. You could argue Bush's weakness is the economy/jobs/deficit and Tony Blair is also in trouble for trying to implement reforms.

But believe what you want to believe.

Indeed, fatfingers, like that there still might be some doubt regarding Al Qaeda's involvement in 9-11.

Fatfingers, fatfingers, haven't you noticed yet that every major election in the last ten years or so has been "A surprising and unexpected shift to the right?"

Seriously, isn't there a part of you that thinks, "Wow, the Terminator won easily, I'm wrong again, maybe there's a trend I'm insulated from?"
