DRIVEN NUTS BY NUTS

James Lileks on the Great Divergence of '03:

We live in an era of non-contiguous information streams. I believe one thing; someone else believes another – and the bedrock assumptions are utterly contradictory. This is what drives me nuts about discussing current events with some people. It’s like discussing the Apollo program with people who think it was all faked, or discussing archeology with those who believe the world is six thousand years old. I think the Iraq Campaign was part of a broad war against Islamicist fascism and the states that enable it; others think it’s all about oil and Halliburton jerking the strings of a Jeebus puppet. No. Middle. Ground.

Lileks is right. We must turn to Hitch to lead the way as we all fling logic, facts, & puke at the idiotarians. Do it for the children.

Just remember: you can not reason a person out of a position they did not arrive at via reason.

Lileks was the perfect answer to an e-mail I got from a friend just before I found it. Guess which paragraph I sent my friend.

He picked out a reference I made to 9/11 being what Marx called a world historical event. He quoted it back - nothing more than that - and proceeded to respond as follows:

there you have it in a nutshell ...once we get our heads around the total lack of air force response to this airspace violation for the first time in the last 20 years AND bushes total opposition to any real investigation into this 9/11 event AND the obvious implosion of the towers AND the 1.5 mtr high hole in the Pentagon before the wall fell in AND why we have to bomb fuck out of people and their homes to get osama and sadam who are just two men not an army AND hundreds of other small problems with bushes response -when i feel i have proper answers to my concerns about these events will go and chop down some more trees

He is a real mate too, but this multithreaded word makes things hard sometimes....
