STRATEGY EXPOSED

Still glowing with pride over their latest tremendous Google triumph, cunning leftoids have commenced another bold cyber campaign:

George Bush is unelectable. That's our opinion and we're sticking to it. Pass it on. So that when people go to google and search for "unelectable," guess what will come up.

Genius! This will guarantee Bush’s defeat. Just imagine how many people must search for “unelectable” on Google every month! Why, it must be dozens at least. And this brilliant ploy will convince all of them to vote against Bush, because ... umm ... because ... because it just will, somehow.

I just gave it a shot. The first result was a Village Voice story that said, "Howard Dean = unelectable."

=)

There's a counter-campaign underway to replace the "miserable failure" with Michael Moore instead of Bush. I'd support that (if I had a website)

re: why they think this well help:

a lot of leftists actually think (and will say so, out loud) that if enough people believe something is true, then it becomes true.

of course, this is not how facts works. mass delusion that the sky is orange does not make the laws of physics change. judgments maybe, but not facts. electability is empirically determined, not a statement of faith.

Google relies less on links these days as it was open to abuse - any decent SEO site or newsletter makes this point. The Left is on the run and desperate. As of 8:10 it is still "Howard Dean = Unelectable". What a hoot!

Isn't it just like liberals to highjack one of our times' best tools for their own partisan advantage?
Worse still, what does it say about me, joining them by popping unelectable and miserable failure in here, ever so gratuitously?

Posted by: Alan M. Robertson at December 13, 2003 at 07:35 PM

Actually, Joe, the page doesn't merely say "Howard Dean = Unelectable." It says, "'Howard Dean = Unelectable.' Says who?" and includes a cartoon depicting Dean on a cruise liner as the rest of the Democrats flounder in his wake. Hardly the same thing.

Posted by: Robert at December 13, 2003 at 07:56 PM

My bad. The ship cartoon is the latest by the same author, but it's closer to the meaning of the page than the one you ascribe to it.

Posted by: Robert at December 13, 2003 at 07:59 PM

Yeah TokenModerateGuy, the only problem with that is Michael Moore unfortunately is not a miserable failure. He is a morbidly obese douchebag, however. Well that, and a lying sack of shit. Now if you could put "fat lying sack of shit" into google search and have Michael Moore's name come up, that would be something.

Posted by: Harry at December 13, 2003 at 08:17 PM

Done, Harry - the first couple of Google hits for "fat lying sack of shit" are Christopher Hitchens and Bill Clinton. Bit of a mixed bag.

Robert: "Hardly the same thing." Actually, Robert, it's the exact same thing. OF COURSE the VIllage Voice doesn't portray Dean as unelectable. But the quote is accurate as I presented it, and if you check my first comment, you'll see I gave it no context. The context wasn't the point. Whatever the intent of its author, the quote is funny because of the campaign Tim reported. That's all.

I got this from the Democratic Underground

Undecided and Not Sure are kickin' some ass

Virginia has a February 10 primary, thus will play a role in selecting our nominee. The big-name polling firm Mason-Dixon (one of the most respected) has now polled the race. MoE +/- 6%. No trend lines.

Other/Undecided 28
Dean 21
Lieberman 13
Clark 11
Gephardt 8
Kerry 7
Sharpton 6
Edwards 5
Kucinich 1
Braun 0

Poll was conducted Dec. 3-5, before the Gore endorsement.

It's a late primary, so it means little to the overall outcome of the race. And the MoE of 7.1% is ridiculous. But for what little it's worth, here are the latest numbers out of Pennsylvania. No trend lines.

Not Sure 31
Dean 19
Lieberman 12
Clark 10
Kerry 10
Gephardt 6
Other 4
Sharpton 3
Braun 3
Kucinich 2
Edwards 0

If you want to participate in the counterinsurgency, I think the following links are currently being propogated by various groups:

unelectable, miserable failure, worst president ever, miserable failure, dumb lardass, and great president.

Maybe if they had a very smart spider weave a web in the Oval Office with the word "UNELECTABLE" on it....

Nah.

Google is sometimes a great search engine, but it does rely too much on links. A google search for "ltc allen west" puts my site at five (it was number one for a while) which makes absolutely no sense. What does make sense is Blackfive and Yankee Pirate are rated above me.
