BRITISH, MARXIST, BUT STILL OK SOMEHOW

The blogroll has been updated. Check out any unfamiliar names. Among new listees: Marxist-org-uk, who send best wishes here, to “a rightwing blog, of a type that, frankly, we wouldn't normally link to, but it does (oh blessed relief) display a sense of humour and attracts some thoughtful commenters.”

Welcome, fun-loving commies!

Actually, having visited their sites a couple of times at the urging of a Marxist colleague, I find them to be fairly rational, for Marxists. That is, they try to see the real world and apply Marxist principles rather than taking Marxist principles and insisting the real world must be made to fit. They are pretty unhappy with ANSWER et al for failing Marxism.

Funny, I thought this would happen.

Come to the dark side....

With whom do I have to sleep in order to get a link?

I spy with my little eye an absence I find conspicuous.

Not that anyone else will.

I blame Michael Moore.

Are they the same bunch who posted a screed against lefty anti-war Saddamites which basically said, "Given a choice between a repressive totalitarian state and a bourgois (sp?) capitalist democracy, choose the lesser of two evils"?

If so, they might have a touch of Orwell in them. Good on 'em.

Twice in one day a simple statement that makes sense without regard to context.

1. Welcome, fun-loving commies!

and

2. Now humans are going to have to learn how to kill again. New Jersey, evidently, is the place to start.

Hey I made Tim's blogroll. Woot!

Thanks.

To a Marxist, what isn't right-wing?

Posted by: Sigivald at December 6, 2003 at 07:44 AM

Wow, I'm really glad they finally got a website, I just love their movies. Especially with Harpo and Zeppo in a "Day at the Races"!

Posted by: Wallace at December 6, 2003 at 08:30 AM

I, for one, bid welcome to our would-be Bolshevik overlords.

On the odd chance of the international overthrow of capitalism, are you accepting résumés for gulag swabs?

Posted by: iowahawk at December 6, 2003 at 10:08 AM

You have to admire the invincible stupidity of people who still champion an ideology that murdered about a hundred million people in this century.

What does the next century hold? Big things for communism I bet! I think it's an idea who's time has come! Vietnam and North Korea are the future for us all!

You wouldn't be linking to friendly nazis, but hey, it's your blog.

It's Tim's blog again?

Posted by: Donnah at December 6, 2003 at 12:29 PM

I guess there's not very many blogs for Communists. I wonder if Tim should feel insulted that, out of the myriad Rightwing blogs his is the only one endorced by Karl's minions.

Goodness they sound like they dont let their politics ruin their sense of humour. There is hope for the world yet!

These idiots are just on the long journey the neo-cons took, from trotskyism through their neo phase to eventually resembling something like old-fashoned condervatives.

They're in phase 1, Waking up and discovering all their socialist friends are idiots. (911 did that to alot of them, though not enough)

Phase 2 is trying to reform their socialist friends or at least trying to get them to aknowledge reality.

Phase 3 is being cast out and reviled as traitors

Phase 4 is understanding that there are forces for human idiocy and evil that are unreformable and unnegotiable and must be met with force.

Communism being one. In all forms, in any configuration.

There is only one kind of good communist, a dead communist, there is no kind of reasonable communist, there is no kind of funny communist.

Even if these guys wake up, that still puts them what, fourty years behind the rest of us? The mass graves dug in Russia, Cambodia and China by these filthy people are so vast this entire country's population could fit into them many times over.

This is funny? This is excuable? In any way? People even obliquly associated with this filthy movement are excusable in any way?

FUCK COMMUNISTS.

Posted by: Amos at December 6, 2003 at 04:26 PM

Amos, I agree with your basic sentiments wholeheartedly but something tells me these guys (on the newly linked blog) are not intent on taking over the world. They seem more inclined to use "Marxism" as a kind of analytic tool.

In many respects, they seem pretty damned realistic. I notice that they mentioned the old Aussie lefty Albert Langer, who also wrote a powerful piece around the time of the move into Iraq arguing that true lefties should support the toppling of Hussein and generally crapping on the "not in my name" crowd. Jose Ramos Horta, another old leftie with the courage of his convictions, was saying much the same thing around the same time.

These are lefties I could have a few beers with and agree on more than they or I care to admit! I might still think some of their ideas are fucked but, hey, they aren't sanctimonious arseholes or completely off with the fairies like big slabs of the "softer" left tend to be.

Well, a Marxist philosopher is differet from a Communist dictator, though I do admit that there are probably Hegelian philosophers that are not complete Fascists, though fascism was defeated in the 1940s, while Communism sputtered on for about another 50 years. Ironically a Marxist Commune that is non-violent and completely voluntary can last as long as possible in a a capitalist country, like the Jesuits. Of course they communally own fine wines, expensive brandy and luxury cars :)

I don't think that the Society of Jesus could be described as Marxist.

Marx was anti-religion. He wanted religion abolished because he claimed that religion gave illusory happiness, and prevented people getting real happiness.

There's no doubt these people are not the same idiots who infest ANSWER but who cares? The poison is the same, your arguing dose.

I'll say it again, ONE HUNDRED MILLION CORPSES. Anyone associated with this filthy murderous movement in any way is inexcusable. In 1930 befor we knew about the gulags? Maybe.

Not in 2003. End. Of. Fucking. Story.
