It's not the opposing of gay marriage that is necessarily immature, although I'm a supporter. Reasonable people may disagree on this subject. It's the forming of alliances with Hamas-boosting idiot groups because of a shared obsession with gay marriage that appals me.

I don't think Melanie Phillips would side with an extremist Islamic group because on this one topic they might share views. Just as I wouldn't join with them if they happened to support gay marriage.

Sorry Tim, it's you who needs to grow up on this one. Every victory by the homosexual movement has only served to whet their appetite for the next battle in their war to gain power for themselves and immunity from criticism. Their rise to acceptability is a case study in media fixation, opinion manipulation and mass coercion. Their opponents are attacked and branded as extremists in the press until they're cowed and the public is bombarded with meaningless data, arguments and numbers until it appears the future of freedom and western civilization itself hinges on the complete and utter acceptance of homosexuality. Stripped of the politics and fury, all that remains is some guys who stick their dicks in each others bum. Not exactly a habit that requires state intervention, re-writing laws, battering churches, and social upheaval. Not content with using each other in this manner, they are using their power to chip away at the age of sexual content with the goal being freedom to use children as their sex toys. Christianity is siding with elements of radical Islam (you selectively neglected to mention that mainstream Islam is also very much opposed to this, but thanks for providing a textbook example of the tar-and-brush propaganda method I mentioned earlier. It goes something like this; "Those idiot Christians opposed to homosexual marriage are siding with RADICAL ISLAM!" Not the complete story is it?) and you don't find that poignant? The last chapter of history hasn't been written yet Timbo. Careful you libertarians don't outsmart yourselves in the long run.

What's so amazing to me is how easily you can take people's anti-homosexual marraige arguements and just simply substitute the word inter-racial and black where appropriate. They even use the same weak religous arguements as to why it should be illegal. (I totally agree homosexuality is wrong in the biblical sense, but so is my cursing at the moron drivers in front of me on my way to work.)

On the topic of gay marriage -
We should be honest and admit that 'marriage' in the traditional sense no longer exists.

If people want to have civil contracts to support each other, let them.
The state should say out of bedrooms, and nobody either straight, gay or transsexual should get any extra rights just because they have sex with each other.

If I live with my sibling or parent (and we have sex - it's not illegal) I cannot claim my sibling/parent's super,
so why should having sex with a non-relative make any difference?

Let's be honest, abolish marriage as a civil concept, and give marriage back to the churches.
