Enough about the forthcoming speech at the Quadrant American Club dinner, what's on the menu? Pizza Quattro Stagione?

Posted by: pooh at July 29, 2003 at 06:42 PM

Good Lord, Tim! You sure have got a whole lot of knickers in a twist there - goofy lefties, smart-arse right wingers - and you even have your own special site dedicated just to tracking you!

I want to get on the Institute of Public Affairs payroll, now!

Contrary to Cambria's assertion, you don't have to be an intellectual heavyweight to take on the left. It's stirling work, but there is plenty of room for a bit of fun too. And it really gets their blood pressure up - obviously!

Posted by: Bob Bunnett at July 29, 2003 at 06:47 PM

Careful Tim, or you'll be abandoning your enfant terrible image.

Some people might even start thinking you're not totally up yourself.

They might even suspect that you have a carefully concealed wry sense of humour, a dessicating wit, and a keen intellect with the ability to tolerate and learn from valid (or at least, well-thought-out) criticism.

And that unlike most in that position (especially the Lefties), you don't take yourself entirely too seriously.

Your closely-held Secret will be out.

Now I really know how to wast time - reading that shit you linked to bored me shitless. Are there any funny left-wing sites? I haven't seen one yet.

And as for the drop-kick who reckons you need an in-depth knowledge of economic history, economic thought, left-wing thought etc etc to take on the left. Well I have all that he/she indicated (I won't post my CV) and it all points to the fact that good old right wing capitalism beats the shit out of left wing socialism.

I think less of you for having such pathetic enemies. A great man has great enemies.

You tell that Cambria fellow it ain't your fault your daddy never held with book-larnin'.

Posted by: ilyka at July 29, 2003 at 09:36 PM

ah, so cambria feels only bookish intellectuals are worthy of listening to.

morons of the world, unite!

tim b liar? someone did too many anagrams to show how clever they are. maybe i'll start a 'brit mail' blog...

Posted by: Mr. Bingley at July 29, 2003 at 11:01 PM

Here's what I liked from Cambria's piece:

"Now how can anyone successfully tackle the left without a reasonable knowledge of economic theory, the history of economic thought, economic history and of leftist thought?"

Hang on, Cambria -- you left out the theory of historical economies, the economic theory of historical leftists, and the thoughts of economic historians on theoretical economists!

Err, thanks for all the hits, Tim. I think.

For what it's worth, this is more my idea of stick figures with attitude:

Just keeping the dialogue alive, Graham.

I've got a link somewhere to a program that allows you to build your own brawlin' stick figures -- I'll post it later.

I don't understand ... why are they allowed to criticize you? Didn't John Howard have these people killed to shore up his dictatorship?

Posted by: Dave Weigel at July 30, 2003 at 03:42 AM

he he he

Tim is a 'hard right' columist.

There is, of course, no possibility of there ever being any such mythical beast as a "conservative intellectual." The reason is simple: being a conservative is prima facie evidence that you're stoooooooooooooooopid. Ask any lefty pea-brain (ahhh, I mean deep-thinker).

Posted by: JorgXMcKie at July 30, 2003 at 12:42 PM

"smart-aleck commentary laced with profanities"

That's a criticism?? It's the best part!!

Cambria should ask someone to remove that broom handle from his arse.

Tim, you like andy capp so you have some decent qualities. Don't you find the sycophantry of your bleating fan club a bit embarrassing? I mean:
""They might even suspect that you have a carefully concealed wry sense of humour, a dessicating wit, and a keen intellect with the ability to tolerate and learn...you don't take yourself entirely too seriously...Your closely-held Secret will be out.""
Sounds like Alan's wet dream laden crush is out too! Alan are you bi, I mean, do Janet Albuttson and melanie howard also firm you up a bit? Or is it just Tim, Bolty and Piers pinned on the ceiling above your bed?!
As for Bob Bunnet (I hope that's a nickname!):
""you don't have to be an intellectual heavyweight to take on the left.""
True, and its a good thing, or we'd have no opposition, and you'd be floundering!
Sorry kids, i'll shut the blinds now and let you get back into it....

Posted by: sphincter at July 30, 2003 at 03:50 PM

For someone who was a Wall St trader for 15 years, Cambria seems to have a pretty poor understanding of what insider trading is. The behaviour he alleges has no relationship to it that I can see.

Perhaps he needs to study more economic history and thought?

Posted by: PK at July 30, 2003 at 04:12 PM

"Thought" is a dirty word round here PK, soon you'll be pilloried for being some pinko intellectual who is out of touch with the masses.

No that I know what makes you "in touch with the masses"... lice, Hep C?? No, they just get you a column in the Bulletin!

Sorry Timbo, go the saints!

Posted by: sphincter at July 30, 2003 at 06:02 PM

Once again, another selection of excellent conservative articles, presenting realism to a world hunkering under the irrational fog of the leftie peaceniks.

By the way Tim, your column is the first thing I read when I open the Bulletin, and in my humble opinion it's about the only thing worth reading in that particular publication.

Posted by: Jason at July 31, 2003 at 04:35 PM

Tim, you scalliwag, two of these links are to centre-right websites! ('though I suppose an old 'oppressor' like yourself might consider these far-left! Heh heh. Only kidding.)
