BAD FORM

The London Sun reports the arrest of a British soldier for abusing an Iraqi prisoner. This is the second such story the Sun has broken:

A British soldier has been arrested over sickening “torture” photos of an Iraqi prisoner.

They show a PoW dangling from a fork-lift truck.

Others allegedly depict soldiers committing sex acts near captured Iraqis.

The squaddie — in the 1st Royal Regiment of Fusiliers — was seized after he took a roll of film to his local photo shop to be developed. Horrified lab workers called in police.

One snap showed an Iraqi PoW who was bound and gagged. He was bundled up in netting suspended from the a fork-lift driven by a British soldier.

It is believed the prisoner was alive when the pictures were taken in Southern Iraq as the war was raging.

"Sex acts"?

Support the troops!

Apart from the fact Robert that the soldier if found guilty will be thrown in jail. If you are going to include all the "Troops!" for the crimes of a few then people might be justified in thinking that all the Pease marchers were a bunch of rabble. Weren't you one of the MOB arrested?

"Support the troops!"

But, but, but... they haven't shot their officers yet! Has the antiwar movement finally moderated its stance on that?

The troops were probably making gestures to imply... what's the noun you fellows use... tossing off.

That probably rises to the level of "sex acts" these days.

I suspect the latter.

Hey, doesn't the RA allow active homosexuals in it's ranks?

But all of this is conjecture. Where is the 'evidence'?

"Sex acts?"

Yeah, y'know... Hummer camp.

It's just such a baseless assertion -- at least -- the article sure doesn't explain itself, it's just a broadside against the troops.

I'm not defending any sort of this behavior -- if true, these guys should be cashiered -- but it's an extrodinary claim and, therefore, requires extrodinary evidence.

From the article if it was just rude gestures on the one hand or group buggery on the other.

I do believe that photographs are admissible in a court of law.

The question remains....

...what were the alleged 'sex acts'?

I meant the "sex acts" - or were there photos of those, too? This whole reading comprehension thing is harder than they said it would be in law school.

Well, if the soldier took pictures of the prisoner for other than official purposes, it is a war crime. Just as the way the Iraqis paraded US prisoners on Iraqi TV was a war crime. It's in the Geneva Conventions.

But sex acts? I'm just guessing that female Coalition soldiers were there wihout wearing veils. The Iraqis probably considered that a sex act. Idiots.

Just a bit of friendly group buggery amongst the guys... normal harmless soldier stuff, really. Out there in the desert, what do you expect? It was that or the camels.

I well remember back in camp at Holdsworthy: happy days...

I read a different story that described photos of Iraqis who looked like they were being forced to perform sex acts -- sodomy, oral sex -- on each other. Or to pose as though they were. Nasty.

Come on Joanne, don't be a spoilsport! It was just good clean fun; boys being boys. Everyone had a good time, until prudes like you and the London Sun poked their noses in. Lighten up!
