PUB WITH NO SLIM
Australian country music legend Slim Dusty has died at 76.
UPDATE. Dave Dawson reports the death of Sheb Wooley.
Posted by Tim Blair at September 19, 2003 04:09 PMThe Man in Black and now Slim. The music is gone my friends...
It'll never be the same. Who else could possibly stand on a stage with a battered old Akubra and sing about drinking with a bunch of mates, and have the entire audience singing along. Dusty, me old mate, you will be missed. The Muster will never be the same again.
Posted by: Todd at September 19, 2003 at 04:23 PMSlim rocked. I got to interview him once -- which was tough, because he didn't much like talking about himself. So we talked about cars instead.

'Well it's so lonesome away from your kindred and all,
By the campfire at night where the ol' dingoes crawl
But there's nothing so lonesome, morbid or drear
Then to stand in the bar of a pub with no beer.'
Farewell, Slim!
Posted by: ilibcc at September 19, 2003 at 04:33 PMFrom one who is only a couple of years younger -
Slim was a true Australian Aussie whose music made a nation happy to be Australian.
Indeed the music died today!
Vale Slim.
I first heard Slim's music at about 6 years of age in my father's ute (how appropriate). It's been something I've loved ever since. Maybe it was just me, but I always sort-of felt Slim was the sort of person who'd treat you like one of his friends - if you only ever met him! Chief Bastard is right - The music is gone.

Posted by: Andjam at September 20, 2003 at 12:34 AMWe drink in the town and the country where the atmosphere is great,
Love to have a beer with Slim, cause Slim's me mate.
