HIROSHIMA DAY IS WHENEVER I DAMN WELL SAY IT IS

Talk about your American cultural arrogance:

A few people pointed the finger and said "Hey! You're wrong! Hiroshima Day is August 6th not August 5th!"

In my defense and in the defense of those American peace groups which observe it on the 5th, I simply observe that when the Bomb was dropped at 8:15 am on August 6, it was still the previous day in the United States. Writing as an American, it was right of me to declare August 5th Hiroshima Day -- for Americans.

It’s called Hiroshima Day because that’s where it happened. But do the US-centric bigots who run Big Peace care? No!

Until they recognize the Fat Man atomic bomb which leveled Nagasaki as the "Differently Sized Person" bomb, I'm going to continue to be offended.

Andrew, I'm not too keen on that word "differently".

Those damned arrogant cowboy peace fascists at it again. Perhaps a little self-reflection is in order here.

Elvis died on two different days as well.

Tim, don't start.

If you do not read the comments left by "Larry" at the above site, you're missing out.

Before anyone flies off the handle, the guy has a point about recognizing it at the same (real) time as in Hiroshima. The proprietor of Pax Nortana may very well be a dink; though, I'm not going to spend the time to find out. Equivalently, before others start slagging Tim, it's just a fucking joke. "Big Peace", I like it.

Of course "person" is a little sexist, too Dan. So how about, "Equally Valid-Sized Perchild" Bomb?

Where were you when Kennedy was shot the day befor, or possibly when you heard he was going to be shot tomorrow if he hadn't already been?

The Entity Of Equal Value As All Other Entities Without Any Bias Whatsoever Bomb.

Stop tying yourselves in knots attempting to come up with a politically correct designation. Just call it a Nucular Bomb and get on with it.

As a killer cyborg sent back from the future I'm always confused about what date to put down in my expense account. Should it be the day I terminate my target in his time or the day he ceases to exist in the future? But then when he ceases to exist in the future my machine masters never knew he existed in the first place and don't want to pay me anyway.

It's so damn confusing being a killer cyborg from the future that if I ever had to cross the International Date Line to terminate someone it would really blow my circuits.

I believe the correct spelling is "nukular."

Hmmh.. My third and final comment on Joel's site was apparently deleted. He seems to think I was truly sincere, so maybe there was an error elsewhere.

Regardless, this was in reply to his statement, "People who mark August 5 as Hiroshima Day in America do it so that they can hold services and vigils at the same moment as they are being held in Japan. Now, when put that way, explain to me how that is Americo-Centric?"

>Well, I suppose it's not, if you are actually >doing it at the exact same moment. That would be >late night on the 5th, correct? I could see >spiritual bonding taking place in that manner. I >could almost imagine the waves of warm fuzzy >feelings flowing over us like a tidal wave of >orgiastically-reproducing tribbles crashing over >our naked bodies, soothing us with their >tribbling purrs. It must be wonderful.
>
>Where will your group be next year? I think I >might want to be there. Thanks.

Who cares if the bomb was droped on the Aug. 5 or 6? Think of it as 2 days to drink beer, eat beef, and throw gas on a bonfire and say," Hey look, fucking Hiroshima just went up for a second, third, and forth time"!

CHEERS TO PAUL TIBBETS (pilot) AND THE CREW OF THE ENOLA GAY!!!

No need to back away slowly, shit run for your lives!

Just having some harmless fun. Anyway, I can see a bunch rednecks sitting around a fire doing that. In your best redneck voice," Hey Billy, next week its Nagasaki day(s). Are you thinkin' what I'm thinkin'...FISH FRY!!!"

SALUTE TO THE AUSSIES!!!

And raise a glass to Richland High School and their football team, the Bombers. Richland, Washington is located next to the Hanford Nuclear Reservation, where the uranium for the two A-bombs was processed. On the side of the Bombers' football helmets is a decal of a mushroom cloud. Go Bombers.

How do they celebrate it in China? Is it called "This Is for Nanking, You Jap Fuckers Day"?

Posted by: Amos at August 12, 2003 at 04:25 PM

oh be quiet, 'roo-hugger. of course americans would observe hiroshima day on aug 5 (aug 6 for japan), since that's when it happened in our timezone. for us to observe it on aug 6 (aug 7 for japan), that would be late. obviously.
