SADDAM'S GALS ODDLY UNPOPULAR IN IRAQ
Maybe they can stay at George Galloway’s place:
Posted by Tim Blair at June 2, 2003 07:35 PMTwo daughters of Saddam Hussein are seeking asylum in Britain. Raghda and Rana Hussein are fleeing Baghdad to escape the fury of liberated Iraqis.
They want a home here after being booted out of the palace where they lived like princesses with their nine children.
But Tim, mate, they are obviously victims of persecution in desperate need of asylum, as AFP reports:
Izzi-Din Mohammed Hassan al-Majid, an Iraqi exile living in London said he was arranging an asylum application for Raghad, 35, and Rana, 33, who are currently living in Baghdad.
Al-Majid said the two women were living with their nine children in two rooms of a family’s house, and were forced to wash their own clothes and cook their own food.
"They live in a severe psychological disorder," he said.
Posted by: Dave F at June 2, 2003 at 09:03 PMFunny they are not seeking asylum in France (or wherever Kofi Annan is from).
Posted by: Ghost of a flea at June 2, 2003 at 09:42 PMIt's amazing that they're throwing themselves at the mercy of the UK and not France or Germany (although I don't know anything about the asylum laws of those countries). Wouldn't Saddam be apoplectic at the idea of his girls' choosing to live in Tony Blair's England? Granted, there's a family connection there, but it's amazing that they'd even consider it under the circumstances.
Posted by: Moira at June 2, 2003 at 09:53 PMThe British "ruling classes" are so anti Israel that I am sure that Saddam's girls would find a warm welcome indeeed. For that matter probably the women concentration camp guards at Buchenwald would be welcoemd by the Guardian. Independent, Daily Mirror, BBC and Reuters bunch as well.
Posted by: Joel at June 2, 2003 at 11:58 PMThese are the two who were married to the Kamal brothers (URK!...) who tried to flee, them went back and got shot. The kiddies are Saddam's heirs.
What would Ghengis do?

The horror, the horror!
Posted by: Indole Ring at June 3, 2003 at 09:30 AMYikes! If my wife sees this SHE might seek asylum in the UK too. Then who is going to wash my clothes and cook my supper?
