SORROW ON THE MARCH

Germany's left-wing media is wallowing in the "America says sorry” photo orgy, reports David Kaspar. He presents a couple of suggested German apologies. Meanwhile US Army Major John Tammes, stationed in Bagram, Afghanistan, has an apology of his own ... complete with a military-quality compassionate head-tilt:

majorsorry.JPG

John writes: "The map with all the tags on it denotes where schools have been built, wells dug, roads repaired, and other barbaric, crusader atrocities have occurred. The picture is of Ahmad Shah Massoud, the Northern Alliance Leader assassinated on September 9th, 2001."

UPDATE. New Zealand is trawling for sorry immigrants:

Hello, America. Feeling down after a bad election result? Disgruntled the candidate you voted for wasn't elected? Why not move to New Zealand?

Visits to the New Zealand Immigration Service website topped 10,300 last Wednesday when George W. Bush was re-elected, says Cross Walk.

NZIS marketing director Terry Murphy - who is from Portland, Oregon - says New Zealand has "liberal attractions", including the debate over civil unions for same-sex couples, anti-globalisation, and our anti-war stance.

The head tilt is spot on! Great work, John!

Dear Afghanis,

I'm sorry that we freed Afghanistan and opened it up for German tourists.

Posted by: Oh No at November 12, 2004 at 12:08 PM

It's a bit difficult to read the message. Do you have an image with better resolution?

Posted by: a guy in pajamas at November 12, 2004 at 12:09 PM

For the benefit of those with worse eyes or monitors than me, it says:

"Dear Afghans, I'm sorry we helped to free you from the Taliban"

Posted by: El-Diablo at November 12, 2004 at 12:15 PM

Most compassionate of you, Major John. I hope you give them poor ol' Taliban goons an honest-to-goodness military hug with a couple of Mark 84 bombs. That'll make them feel really wanted.

Posted by: The Real JeffS at November 12, 2004 at 12:18 PM

Much head-tilting going on over at the sorry-ass's site. The post-election demand for psychiatric services will soon be rivaled by a massive stampede to chiropractors' offices.

Posted by: Eliza at November 12, 2004 at 12:37 PM

Joschka Fisher's sorry attempt at a head-tilt over at Davids Medienkritik site has been noted as yet another insincere empty gesture the Lefties are famous for. :-)

Posted by: JPB at November 12, 2004 at 12:58 PM

I'll give my place in line for New Zealand citizenship to the first person to spot my contribution on this page from "Sorry, Osama, we won't do it again" website.

Just civil unions, not same-sex marriage? Sorry, that won't do for our liberal betters. Kiwis, expect to become part of Jesusland any day now.

They've also got a great animal rights record!

Posted by: Troy at November 12, 2004 at 01:29 PM

Darn, I just can't get it. After hours standing in front of my mirror, practicing, I just can't get my compassionate head tilt to look convincing.
I so want to post my sorry photo..uh, I mean "America says sorry" photo...but a strange smirk always seems to creep over my face when I think about apologizing for what we are doing to those poor islamofacists.
Does this mean I'm cannot be a liberal?

Posted by: rinardman at November 12, 2004 at 01:29 PM

I thought lefties valued diversity. So diverse that they want to live together in their own closeted hive-minded community. Ain't too much diversity in that ...

Posted by: Gareth at November 12, 2004 at 01:35 PM

Please keep all your resident leftie socialists to yourself. We've already got far too many of them here. (Unless they're hot chicks, we need more of those)

Posted by: El Diablo from NZ at November 12, 2004 at 01:35 PM

New Zealand is anti-global??? sounds fishy to me.. a bunch of brits 12000 miles from home are now declared to be anti-global...
move on , nothing devious going on here..

Posted by: e m butler at November 12, 2004 at 01:45 PM

C'mon, NZ! Do us grunting, knuckle dragging morons in Jesusland a favor, would ya? Please? Aren't there any islands out there you might stick our lefties on, a la' Survivor? If you put too many lefties on one island, well, there's always cannibalism. That would be a win-win situation.

Or you could do airdrops of humanitarian supplies, like Starbuck coffee and croissants. Maybe the UN would pay for it.

Posted by: The Real JeffS at November 12, 2004 at 01:52 PM

Any truth in the Info that Hammas Helen has declared Arafat Day to mourn the great idol of the LLL ?

Posted by: davo at November 12, 2004 at 01:53 PM

El Diablo from NZ - I hear all the hot chicks in NZ wear wool and go 'Baaaaaa"...

(Sorry, as an Aussie I couldn't help myself)

Posted by: Dylan at November 12, 2004 at 01:56 PM

Someone explain to me why, exactly, the NZs haven't started complaining about the imperialist takeover of whatever NZ was called before they took it over and why they haven't demanded that it all be returned to the original owners? Shouldn't all those guilty white liberals be repatriating themselves to the UK or somewhere? Aren't they ashamed of their greedy land grab? Don't they feel any sympathy for the downtrodden original inhabitants? For God's sake, where is their compassion?

Posted by: JorgXMcKie at November 12, 2004 at 02:50 PM

Some of us still attempt to fight the good fight. Unfortunately the place is run by childless female academics and because we're not a democracy, there's no telling when this bunch of unelected spinsters and nannyish busybodies will retire to the UN to practise their lefty scolding on a global scale.

Eh..what did you say...we are a democracy...then how the hell did we end up like this?

Posted by: Gordon King at November 12, 2004 at 02:52 PM

Canmpbell Island would be a good starting point for people moving to NZ.

Funny, if New Zealand is such a paradise, why is there more New Zealanders in Australia than in the whole of New Zealand?

And why can't we Aussies get rid of them? You'd think they'd be flocking to return to such a "liberal" paradise.

Posted by: Matt Eric at November 12, 2004 at 04:34 PM

Guys,

Before you bag the little islands in my heart, please remember hat some of us came over to Aus and helped out the Liberal campaign and the Republican campaign in the US. So how about instead of poking fun, returning the favor, rolling up your sleeves and giving us a hand in getting rid of Red Helen?

I in the meantime will take a long breath, celebrate the death of another one of the worlds Despots/Terrorists (If palestine is really a democracy, why did Araflap need to "appoint and anoint" a successor? Should there be some sort of structures in place for that sort of thing in a real democracy?), and will go online to post some more photos on http://www.sorryeverybody.com/ to make fun of the cheese-eating apologist monkeys. That's right, that's what they are, apologists for failed regimes (including the one in palestine and the one in Iraq, that used to be lead by a guy with a porn star moustache).

Eat Crow you Neville Chamberlain-like weasels!

Posted by: Black & Silver at November 12, 2004 at 04:37 PM

Posted by: PJ at November 12, 2004 at 04:41 PM

There are plenty of remote island up in Alaska; perhaps we can air drop the lefties there. And we always have Antarctica.

While we are talking about great pictures, I hope everybody has seen this one of Michael Moore.

He's too big for my screen, far far too big. I can only see part of the image, as I only have a 19' monitor.

I made out the oh-so-clever symbol for loser however. Does he mean him and his ilk?

From FDR/Truman/Kennedy, to that fat nerd. How far the Democrat party has fallen.

It's just sad.

Not long before Vermont Teddy Bear knocks out a Sorry Bear, complete with sign, and the usual proletarian fancy dress. And then an Expat Bear (with Maple Leaf watch cap) Follow this with a Ben and Jerry confection called Sorryberry Supreme and New England lefties can preen about their convictions.

Geez, get with the times, Terry. In the US, supporting same-sex civil unions now makes you a theocratic fascist Puritan. "Debating" civil unions makes you worse than Hitler.

"I'll give my place in line for New Zealand citizenship to the first person to spot my contribution on this page from "Sorry, Osama, we won't do it again" website."

I submitted a pic, too, but there's no way to find it except for looking at EVERY GODDAMN PAGE. After twenty minutes of looking at those sorry-ass losers and their European absolvers, I couldn't take any more.

So if you happen to see a picture of a guy next to a misspelled sign, holding the Acoustic Guitar of Change while doing the Head Tilt of Compassion and Limp Power Fist of Solidarity (and wearing a Smith & Wesson cap), lemme know what page it's on. Thankyouverymuch.

Posted by: Dave S. at November 13, 2004 at 12:40 AM

I GOT IT !!!!!

The reason the good Major's head tilt is so perfect is that he even got Clinton's lip!

In the video I bet it even quivers!!

Posted by: AlanC at November 13, 2004 at 01:52 AM

"New Zealand has "liberal attractions", including the debate ...."
Liberals only like to debate when everyone agrees with them.

DrZin,
Now that's funny. Except that Chamberlain eventually realized his folly and died of distress.
Will somebody please post a photo with a head tilt and a sign that says "Peace in our time"?

El Diablo,
Your not the only one to discover that some of these "I'm sorry" chicks will be welcomed EVERYWHERE. You'll know I'm a happy man when I can say, "Well OF COURSE I voted for Kerry. Are sure your alright to drive home?"

Posted by: John from OK at November 13, 2004 at 04:16 AM

Wouldn't it be funny if NZ had another twitch to the right just after all those leftie idiots emigrated there?

Posted by: Andrew Ian Dodge at November 13, 2004 at 05:16 AM

LOL, Andrew! They could always emigrate to Antarctica!

Posted by: The Real JeffS at November 13, 2004 at 08:58 AM

Well having "liberal attractions" is better than having "illiberal" ones I suppose (when I visit a tourist venue I would rather listen to it go on about how terrible the Bush victory was - hey, I am a Leonard Cohen fan, I enjoy misery - than hear it gloat about great it was. We all know Mickey Mouse is a fascist, so I won't be heading to Disneyland anytime soon.

However, when it comes to "liberal attractions" nobody beats Australia. Does NZ, for example, have a Big Banana, a Big Pineapple or a Big Cow?

Posted by: Darlene at National Forum at November 13, 2004 at 08:59 AM

And another thing, last week I wrongly made the call that sorryeverybody.com was a parody. I stand corrected this week. It's not. What would I know about humour, I spent election day in Australia giving out how-to-votes for Latham.

No way would I have voted for Bush, but no way would I apologise because others did. It's called democracy, kids. Use it or lose it.

Also, how user-unfriendly is "sorry". You have click on each number to see a different image. With my interent access ("internet that would fly, if it wasn't really, really slow and possibly suffering from a gunshot wound by a bird hunter") it would take me until the Democrats and Labor next get in power to finish viewing all the photos.

Posted by: Darlene at National Forum at November 13, 2004 at 09:08 AM

"No way would I have voted for Bush, but no way would I apologise because others did. It's called democracy, kids. Use it or lose it. "

Thank you, Darlene. It's good to see that rational members of the old Democratic party still survive.

Posted by: The Real JeffS at November 13, 2004 at 10:35 AM

Darlene - no harm, no foul. I thought it was a parody at first as well - I mean...look at it.

I can't keep away from it though. I load up new pages with a sort of sick fascination, because I know that sooner or later I'm going to see one of my college buddies or professors there. It's sort of like probing a nasty wound - sooner or later, you're going to wish you hadn't, but it's so tempting, in an ugly way.

Posted by: Sonetka at November 13, 2004 at 11:05 AM

Actually, Euro countries and others would do well to encourage immigration by Americans. It would add spine to these countries, and the hardest working, smartest people and best citizens in the world.
