MARGO QUIZ

Catherine Keenan profiles Margo Kingston. Take the Keenan/Kingston multiple choice quiz:

She worked in this newspaper's Canberra bureau from 1994 to 2001, and since July 2000 has edited Webdiary at smh.com.au, which now she runs as a contributing editor/columnist. She has become famous for ------

a) earning money for this
b) the vastness of her illiteracy
c) the strength of her convictions

Even those who don't know her well, like me, know that arguments about politics or her profession make her ------

a) confused
b) thirsty
c) shake with anger

There is a rawness about her, as if she doesn't have a skin, that makes her both vulnerable and explosive. "People think I'm ------," she says.

a) unreadable
b) Paris Hilton
c) mad

Not for the first time, I think how exhausting it must be to be Margo. Conversely, it must be hard for her to understand how the rest of us can remain so little moved by issues that make her ------.

a) redundant
b) Australia’s greatest intellectual
c) burn

Slightly off the point, i'm afraid, but did you see news iten in Sydney Moning Herald on Right-wiung racism in Britain;

"Leaders of Britain's nearly 2 million Muslims - already worried about a rise in race hate since the September 11, 2001 attacks - said the program unmasked the National Party.

"It has tried for a false image of respectability. Yet under the surface lurks the same hatred of the foreigner," said Inayat Bunglawala, of the Muslim Council of Britain.

Gee, I wonder why that could be? Especially after they already attacked those poor Muslims on September 11, 2001?

I'd like to post something on the Keenan/Kingston ejaculation but some things are beyond comment.

I like the photo of Margo squatting on the chair. But where is the noose?

4, d) "Froth at the mouth".

BACA, spanish for "cow"

Posted by: mojo at July 17, 2004 at 08:05 AM

Actualy, "Vaca" is cow in spanish, but it's pronounced like "Baca" due to the fact that they do not distinguish between "V" and "B".

To be way off topic. . .

Gay Alcorn, the most biased and incompetent US reporter any Australian newspaper has *ever* had, is Margo's sister????

Oh, wow. The circle (jerk) is complete.

Baka, by the way, is Japanese for "idiot."

Don't get me started on this one. Guess what? Yet another leg up for Margo and her book, courtesy of the SMH.

What pisses me off is that whilst the SMH hack is breathlessly intoning facts about Margo and her book, its the fifth #4@344 time its been done!

How many times does the SMH need to beat the same story? We saw the same thing with the Wilkie issue. Time for the SMH to stop pushing other barrows and get on with reporting actual news that people have paid to receieve.

(e)M(b)ARGO Kingston?

Oops: looks like Margo is hitting a raw nerve or two. Wonder if (on the off chance that her book is seen to have been a bit of an earner) that will lead to the resentful comments as with Mike Moore, now often referred to as a millionaire film maker.

Posted by: Brave and True at July 17, 2004 at 07:35 PM

Christ, what a face!

Two of my coworkers were talking about a woman who is so damn ugly they cannot look away from her face, no matter how hard they try.

Margo has that face.

Mike Moore, now often referred to as a millionaire film maker.

Umm, well he is a millionaire film maker. Is this standard lefty outrage about people actually daring to speak facts, or did you have another reason for calling it "resentful"? (No, "you people are just trying to ruin his 'everyman' status, wahhh!" is not a valid reason.)

Anyway, as much as Moore disgusts me, I don't mind that he's rich. He got rich mostly off the backs of gullible leftists, after all, so it's all good. (Shame on me though, I actually bought Stupid White Men a couple of years ago. Chalk that up as a learning experience.)

BTW, is "Brave and True" supposed to be a self-description?

Posted by: PW at July 18, 2004 at 05:36 AM

Interesting profile - Ms Keenan writes almost gingerly, as if she's afraid Margo is going to fly at her throat. She also lets Margo speak for herself, which is probably the most damning thing she can do for her.

Apologies for my ignorance of Australian politics but who is Joh Bjelke-Petersen and what does he stand for? I assume this will explain a lot about Margo.

Terrible photo BTW. In fact I've never seen a non-terrible photo of her. Is she undergoing chemotherapy or something?

Posted by: Annalucia at July 19, 2004 at 01:15 AM

Joh Bjelke Peterson is a former National Party (think social-conservatives, farming subsidies, etc) Premier of Queenland for 20+ years. His administration was corrupt in some areas and didn't really tolerate dissent (banned street marching).

Anyway, there was a Joh-for-Canberra push by his supporters to get him to go Federal, which was a major cause of John Howard losing an election in the mid-1980s.

Comedian Tim Blair wasn't laughing when reports in Sydney claimed he was on the edge of a breakdown...

The really damned not only like Hell, they feel loyal to it.

Nope, it didn't make sense when I reread it. Oh, well.

Posted by: ushie at July 19, 2004 at 12:56 PM

Cool. People having nervous breakdowns for Tim so he won't have any. That's dedication!
