LOSING DER PEACE
Compare and contrast: post-war Germany and post-war Iraq.
Posted by Tim Blair at June 29, 2004 04:02 AMHe forgot one:
Accomplishment: Occupation Troops Leave
Iraq: Pending (14 months so far)
Germany: Pending (709 months so far)
When I was stationed in Germany, the appreciation for the American soldier varied with the distance from the then-known-as International German Border....The Wall. The closer to the wall, the more people liked you. This was certainly true in 1982.
I have to wonder where the Iraqi equivalent of the Wall will be.....the Sunni Triangle? The Syrian/Iranian border? Or will it be less physical and more spiritual?
Posted by: The Real JeffS at June 29, 2004 at 05:15 AMJeffS, it will probably be the Kurdish zone. The closer to that, the more the like.
Does that sentence read properly?
:)
Posted by: Quentin George at June 29, 2004 at 08:33 AMIt reads fine, Quentin. And you're probably correct!
Posted by: The Real JeffS at June 29, 2004 at 09:29 AMThe only point on which we're dragging the chain is war trials, so bring it on! Saddam, are you ready? Come on down!!!
Posted by: Freddyboy at June 29, 2004 at 03:29 PMFreddtboy, you are spot on
Is the presumption of innocence still required for Saddam?
I don't think so.
March him in, run the trial, shoot him.
Celebratary (sp?) drinks all round - and let a few mags off for good measure if your in Iraq.
