TRIANGULATE THIS

Dick Morris -- Mark Latham’s hero -- presents a political theory with which the Labor leader may have a few difficulties:

The real test of American resolve will not be our willingness to stay in Iraq, but our desire to keep Bush in office.

Al Qaeda and the Ba'ath Party want to defeat Bush to avenge his tough stance against them after the 9/11 attacks. They know that John Kerry would usher back the Clinton days of timid U.S. reaction and that the Democrat's likely repeal of vital sections of the Patriot Act would open the door for their terror strikes in America.

It is obvious that Osama and his allies all want Bush out. It might profit Bush's supporters (though not the president himself) to point out this obvious fact to the American people.

Man, I am so eager to know the results of the November election I can hardly stand it. It's like anticipating the mother of all Christmasses, like you're waiting to find out if Santa will bring you that shiney new 12-speed racer you've always dreamed of, or get whacked out on PCP and violently rape your lawn furniture.

God I can't hardly almost bearly stand it!

And talking of drug addicts, Morford is quiet these days. His editors yanked his leash it seems. It sucks, because one of the much anticipated by-products of a Dubya win was to be Morford's Scanners-like head explosion. I guess I'll have to content myself with watching Margo's.

If the US Republicans (and Australian Liberals) are smart, all they need to do is run the following message: "Who do YOU think Osama bin Laden wants to win in November?"

It answers itself. Hopefully, unlike the Spaniards, people in the US and Australia will then vote for the candidate Osama doesn't want. No guarantees, though.

Hey maybe we should start a campaign organisation called stayput.org where we have lobby groups supporting the GWOT, War on Iraq etc.

Forget Al Qaeda and Bush - Roast Beef has been shot again!

Posted by: Rob at June 6, 2004 at 01:10 AM

the u.s. GDP is growing at a 5% clip---several wall street econs are predicting 2.5-3mm jobs created within calendar 2004--and manufacturing jobs--the index that measures, the ISM, just hit its highest level in 20 years.

Inflation is running at around 2-2.5%.

the only beef people can vote Bush out on is Iraq/WOT.

50% of Americans aren't going to agree that a liberal from Massachusettes is capable of protecting us any better.

I think more than 50% of Americans agree with the guy, for the most part.

Posted by: rod at June 6, 2004 at 03:31 AM

I think Bush will just wind back the American presence in Iraq leading up to November and Bob's your uncle. Hysterical pants-wetting by our filthy ignorant socialist scumbag media (inc) aside, there's been fights in what, two towns? In both the Marines crushed the muj decisivly and there has been little broad support for Osama's rapist road bombers, or even, strangley enough, a Baathist resurgence.

Iraq will be fine, turn it over to the locals, George, and cruise to an easy win.

Posted by: Amos at June 6, 2004 at 03:56 AM

Dick Morris is back in the Bush camp? That means Bush is definitely pulling ahead. Morris has a keen eye for which coattails to ride...

Posted by: richard mcenroe at June 6, 2004 at 04:04 AM

Richard Mc,

Dick Morris also knows how to treat a lady's feet!

Posted by: JDB at June 6, 2004 at 04:49 AM

Dick Morris is not accounting for the fact that many American lefties prefer Osama to the "dangerous" Bush, Cheney, Halliburton regime that has suppressed all their rights.

Posted by: perfectsense at June 6, 2004 at 05:54 AM

I know that Morris gets on a lot of people's nerves but I have never listened to him without being struck by just how saavy he is. Case in point: When he said that Hillary Clinton was a lesbian, though I suppose one need not be too saavy to figure that out.

Posted by: Sean at June 6, 2004 at 06:20 AM

What, Hillary a lesbian? Who woulda thought that? ;-)

Posted by: The Real JeffS at June 6, 2004 at 06:42 AM

He has a gift for the obvious.

Posted by: Papertiger at June 6, 2004 at 06:57 AM

The Morris article is a piece of crap.
Osama and others have experienced a boom in willing new recruits with Bush at the helm. Why change a winning combination.
By the way see how that socialist scumbag, limp wristed leftoid from the Vatican (the Pope!) berated Bush on Iraq?

Posted by: carlos at June 6, 2004 at 07:43 AM

The rush of recruits would have happened either way, carlos. When Al Qaeda (with Osama at the helm) murdered all those people in the World Trade Center, Pentagon, and the aircraft, one of his objectives was advertising for recruits. It didn't matter who was the President, since the attack was clearly planned before Bush took office. But I suppose that this gives you something else to whine about.

Oh, and there's nothing new about the pope having a problem with Iraq; he's said it before, and he'll say it again. Pointing out the obvious is something new for you, though, carlos. Are you feeling ill?

Posted by: The Real JeffS at June 6, 2004 at 08:15 AM

The Real Jeffs:
What is your point?
My point was the fact that the Pope has been stridently against this should give a cluehighlight that not only "leftoid, terrorist appeasers etc." are against the war in Iraq.
After 9/11 practically the whole world was sympathetic to the US and willing to assist in any way to combat such terrorists- after Bush, can this be said today?

Posted by: carlos at June 6, 2004 at 08:30 AM

After 9/11 practically the whole world was sympathetic to the US and willing to assist in any way to combat such terrorists

(Emphasis added.) I think carlos has just officially jumped the shark as a blog troll with that truly asinine statement.

Posted by: PW at June 6, 2004 at 08:37 AM

By the way, who cares what the Pope says? Besides Catholics, of course. I'm not Catholic, so the opinions of the Pope (not to mention the Whole Rest of the World that we are supposed to for some reason consult for every damn thing we do including wiping our asses) don't mean anything to me more than that of any other man's.

Posted by: Andrea Harris at June 6, 2004 at 08:48 AM

I am of a Catholic background, but I really don't give a shit about the Pope. If you knew anything about Catholic dogma, carlos, which you don't seem to, you would know the Pope is only "infalliable" on matters of faith.

Clearly Iraq has little to do with the Christian religion, therefore the Pope is merely expressing his opinion.

And in MY opinion, he jettisoned all moral responsibility on this issue when he fawningly met Tariq Aziz in the leadup to the war.

Posted by: Quentin George at June 6, 2004 at 09:03 AM

Furthermore carlos, please stop peddling, "Oh, the whole world was behind the US, all you had to do was play nice and blah, blah, blah..."

At best it was a momentary sympathy. Old prejudices still lurked underneath. Some didn't even bother to hide theirs: Remember the Palestinians dancing for joy in the street?

Perhaps this faux "sympathy" would have lingered longer had the US done nothing, but the Us is trying to eliminate its enemies and promote democracy, not win a popularity contest.

Posted by: Quentin George at June 6, 2004 at 09:17 AM

Well, carlos, my point was....who cares about what the pope says? Quentin said it better, though. Thanks, mate!

I'm not Catholic, but I'll say it anyway. The pope is a religious world leader, morally and ethically, not a political world leader. Like all everyone, he is entitled to his opinion.

But while Pope John Paul II has been at the helm of the Catholic Church, that vast organization has dealt with multiple scandals (pedophilia and sexual abuse -- you remember those, yes?) in a poor fashion. Then he emulated the United Nations in meeting with Tariq Aziz to avoid the invasion of Iraq. I view that as supporting the brutal Ba'athist regime under Hussein, even if the pope was being played for a fool.

For my money, the pope's morals and ethics have little credibility, and I chose to ignore them.

Posted by: The Real JeffS at June 6, 2004 at 09:39 AM

Osama and others have experienced a boom in willing new recruits with Bush at the helm.

Why yes, there is no end to the mentally challenged children that they will strap bombs to and throw at Israeli checkpoints.

Posted by: Sortelli at June 6, 2004 at 11:15 AM

Ha Ha Ha ...all true to form.
I truly envy such dedication and unshakeable resolve.
(excuse me, there were no WMD's) WE DONT CARE! WE'RE THERE BECAUSE HE'S A THREAT TO THE WORLD
(um, there was no link to Osama/terrorists)
WE'RE THERE TO GIVE THEM DEMOCRACY! (..excuse me, but what about Haiti, it was already a democracy, but...) JUST SHUT THE FUCK UP!

Posted by: carlos at June 6, 2004 at 12:38 PM

Wow, and now carlos has truly lost it. He doesn't seem to enjoy his stay here at Tim's too much, does he?

Posted by: PW at June 6, 2004 at 01:16 PM

There have been no terrorist attacks by AQ on American soil since 911. Doubtless this is because Osama has decided he dosen't want to kill Americans anymore and has nothing to do with the destruction of his camps, the killing or capturing of 75% of his leadership, the shutdown of huge swathes of his financing, the ousting of his Taliban sponsors or his own death.

Yeah, killing terrorists just makes them stronger, like Obi-wan.

Carlos, you're just a fucking idiot, not to mention a liar, coward and fool. In other words, a typical leftist scumbag.

Posted by: Amos at June 6, 2004 at 01:42 PM

Actually, carlos the lowercase lost it long ago. It's just that he is finally coming out of the closet, and is no longer posing as a mild mannered moonbat.

No, folks, BEHOLD!, carlos the blog troll, in all of his non-glory. Look, but don't touch; the condition is not supposed to be contagious, but better safe than sorry.

Oh, and carlos? Have you ever considered the possibility that you are the one with "... such dedication and unshakeable resolve"? That is you who is locked into a fantasy, and won't come out because it conflicts with what you want to believe?

Nah! Of course not. Never mind; I shouldn't have bothered asking.

Posted by: The Real JeffS at June 6, 2004 at 02:02 PM

carlos, you're not supposed to take all those pills at once. I hope the brain damage isn't permanent.

Posted by: Andrea Harris at June 6, 2004 at 02:07 PM

I take full responsibility for carlos freaking out like that. I should never have pointed out how his Palestinian heroes needed to "recruit" retarded children to do their suicide bombing thanks to the huge boom in available terrorists.

Posted by: Sortelli at June 6, 2004 at 02:30 PM

Poor carlos, as the last vestiges of his "The Pope said no, that means it was wrong" argument was destroyed by people who actually knew a thing or to about the Pope, carlos' poor mind collapsed on itself.

I've heard of this happening, but never witnessed it. God bless you sir.

Posted by: Quentin George at June 6, 2004 at 02:47 PM

I should never have pointed out how his Palestinian heroes needed to "recruit" retarded children to do their suicide bombing

Oh, now it all makes sense. His retarded rant was actually just his way of yelling "pick me next, pick me!" to make him more attractive to those "recruiters".

Posted by: PW at June 6, 2004 at 03:09 PM

Amos, your statements re: Al Quaida, the Taliban etc. may be so. The sustained pressure directly on Osama's operations has weakened them-very good.
These facts while very well presented have no relevance on the "why we invaded Iraq" arguement. Unless of course we go with "there were not enough targets in Afghanistan" or, (here's a good one, remember this?) goes something like, we go into Iraq, fuck the place up really good, and all the terrorists then go in there and then we get them.(was this the fly paper "strategy"?)
None of you morons have given a logical explanation why a so called civilised society has invaded another country. You are fed, and eagerly lap up the drivel coming from the White House, Canberra..when all the "facts" are one by one shown to be false, instead of thinking -hmm maybe there's something wrong here, you eagerly lap up the next crumb/reason..
Now I'm sure there are those that have already worked out the whole thing is a sham, but go along with it anyway.-patriots?

Posted by: carlos at June 6, 2004 at 05:46 PM

Carlos:

Today is the 60th anniversary of D-Day - the day a civilised society attacked another country. It happens for very good reasons sometimes.

Posted by: amortiser at June 6, 2004 at 10:02 PM

Since you ask I'll tell you why we invaded Iraq: because Afghanistan will never be anything but a bandit-ridden hellhole, but Iraq is one of the centres of the muslim clutural world, the seat of the old Bahgdad calphate and the second biggest Shia muslim concentration in the ME after Iran.

A democracy in Afghanistan will last only as long as the vareous illiterate, goat-fucking warlords are being terrorised or bribed into line, but a democracy taking roots in Iraq will transform utterly the entire middle east.

This is why absolutly every terrorist organisation, every Muslim dictatorship and every sleezy, oil-grubbing UN rep scumbag and his lawyer are trying to stop it. Democracy in Iraq is their death-kneil.

This has been explainded to fucking morons like you what, a million times? Two million? Are you fucking deaf? Are you fucking stupid? Do you not understand English? Do I have to physically beat this shit into your head to get you to understand it? What the fuck is wrong with you?

If Dubya pulls this off he will have achieved in under a decade what the worlds vareous hand-wringing internationalist do-gooders and their bleating flocks of useful idiots in the media would not have achieved in a million years- the world's first Arab democracy and the beginnings of the emergence of millions of people from medieval tyranny into the modern age.

On their behalf, I say to you, 'carlos', with all sincerity I can muster in the face of the ignorant and deeply evil socialist idiocy you represent: go fuck youself, you fucking worthless, tyrant-loving cunt.

Posted by: Amos at June 6, 2004 at 10:11 PM

I find it precious that the Pope should chide Bush, in a backhanded fashion, over Abu Grahib while he presided for decades over the rather more significant scandal of his very own Church. Pedophile priests? Shuffle them along to another parish and be quiet about it. Cardinal Law, chief shuffler? Why, let's put him up in the Vatican in a palace, with a nice stipend of $15000/month. Yeah, one thing's for sure, he's got big brass ones.

As far as the undying sympathy the world had for us right after 9/11, carlos, I would like to point out the huge anti-American rally I witnessed in London in October 2001. This was before one fucking bomb had dropped on Afghanistan. This was after it was obvious that the UN was going to be "fully" behind some significant military action there. And yet there was a huge number of anti-American protesters right there in the capital of our most staunch ally in this war.

So, carlos, pardon me for gagging. I choked down a little vomit reading your incredibly silly and untrue "point".

And if the rest of the world only likes Americans when they are dying, well, they can go to hell.

Amos; I picture you in a white shirt, three pens in the breast pocket - one is leaking.
(I was going to say that there was a Democracy in Iran before the CIA installed the Shah, then I remembered , Shit! They're not Arabs! Then I thought - this would really piss them off, but Arafat is supposedly democratically elected by the Palestinians - but then there's no such country, and it will get them all mad again)

Anyway - I've been convinced, good arguement. love the vernacular, ...
