MODO AT THE SPEED OF SOUND

"Maureen Dowd entered May with a sonic boom of idiocy that was felt as far away as Australia," writes the wonderful Cathy Seipp, who is to Dowd as sulphuric acid is to kittens.

So Dowd reckons WWII was so crystal clear, all Churchill was give the order, over the top boys. There are a few obstacles to that revision, Churchill had to overcome many of them:
his cabinet, whitehall secretaries, a few patricians, Churchill nearly lost his job trying to convince them of they really did have to fight Adolf.

Crystal clear, like admiring the bottom of the Yarra River if it weren't for the damned silt filled water in the way.

"sonic boom of idiocy"

That is a classic line.

Dowd is amazing - so amazing that I just can't read her. Quite often she doesn't even complete thoughts and sentences, and her view of the world is unctuous. It is entirely based on a fantasy of what like could be if the rest of us lived our lives in such a fashion that we would support the lifestyles and ideas of a handful of wealthy Manhattanites at the cost of our own well being.

I like the sulfuric acid/kittens analogy. Except that the kittens, after a brief period of yowling, would then be forever silent. No such luck here.

After reading the "Mr. Myopia from Utopia!" line that Cathy quotes, I'm convinced that Dowd has been kidnapped by the staff of The Onion and they're e-mailing in these columns under her account, trying to see how over the top they can go before the Times drops her.

Killing kittens by masturbation or reading Maureen Dowd...no contest. Definitely gotta go with the first.
