ONE MOORE LIE

Fred Barnes on Michael Moore:

A few years ago Michael Moore, who's now promoting an anti-President Bush movie entitled Fahrenheit 9/11, announced he'd gotten the goods on me, indeed hung me out to dry on my own words. It was in his first bestselling book, Stupid White Men. Moore wrote he'd once been "forced" to listen to my comments on a TV chat show, The McLaughlin Group. I had whined "on and on about the sorry state of American education," Moore said, and wound up by bellowing: "These kids don't even know what The Iliad and The Odyssey are!"

Moore's interest was piqued, so the next day he said he called me. "Fred," he quoted himself as saying, "tell me what The Iliad and The Odyssey are." I started "hemming and hawing," Moore wrote. And then I said, according to Moore: "Well, they're . . . uh . . . you know . . . uh . . . okay, fine, you got me--I don't know what they're about. Happy now?" He'd smoked me out as a fraud, or maybe worse.

The only problem is none of this is true. It never happened. Moore is a liar. He made it up.

Meanwhile, Jean-Luc Godard reveals himself to be a Moore doubter:

Godard went on to say that the Flint, Mich.-born director lacks subtlety. "Moore doesn't distinguish between text and image," Godard argued. "He doesn't know what he's doing."

Also:

Publishing house ReganBooks announced plans this week to release an anti-Moore book called Michael Moore Is A Big Fat Stupid White Man. The book comes from authors Jason Clarke and David T. Hardy, the web agitators who run mooreexposed.com and moorelies.com, sites which are aimed at discrediting Moore's books and movies.

Michael Wilson is another anti-Moore activist. Check out the trailer for his upcoming film -- certain to win a standing ovation at Cannes!

UPDATE. The war is all about oil, according to Moore. So he’s doing his best to reduce Western dependence on the vile liquid:

As the limousine carrying Moore to his Cannes press conference pulls out of the Majestic, bound for the Palais less than 200 yards up the road ...

The entire Guardian piece on Moore is worth reading, by the way.

UPDATE II. Moore’s Cannes victory speech is characteristically modest and tasteful:

"I want to make sure if I do nothing else for the rest of this year that those who died in Iraq have not died in vain."

I am confident that Moore's "Farenheit 9/11" will hurt President Bush just as much as his previous books, film, television shows and internet website did.

As an Australian Bush supporter, I would say to big old Mikey: please Sir, can we have some more? :-)

Moore is a liar, but worse, Moore is a hyprocrite and parasite. He grows fatter and richer by feeding his lies to the fears and psychoses of the left.

Posted by: The Real JeffS at May 23, 2004 at 01:31 AM

Even my liberal family and friends know Moore is full of shit.

Posted by: aaron at May 23, 2004 at 03:41 AM

What drives me nuts is people who cut him slack and say "well, it's only comedy/entertainment.." Excuse me, but didn't he win an Oscar for DOCUMENTARIES? As the category title implies, the film should be DOCUMENTING realities of a given subject. Not clummsily manufacturing scenarios that support your ridiculous claims. But Hollywood is full of Kool-aid drinking scientology/karbala hooey, so it is difficult for them to recognize a steaming pile of bullshit when they see one. Which also explains how half the movies made there get green-lighted.

Ah excellent, as Moore grows in fame, the doubts about his veracity are starting to spread.

Also, doesn't Moore realise that his biggest exposure has coincided with a Republican President and a Republican controlled Congress?

Surely even his tiny mind can grasp the possible reasons behind that.

Posted by: Quentin George at May 23, 2004 at 09:19 AM

One need not be a critical genius to see that it is political ridicule which underpins the humour of the conservatives while it is hatred of America that underpins the humour of the liberals.

If you agree with me, liberalism is on a long journey away from power.

Posted by: Miranda Divide at May 23, 2004 at 10:31 AM

Actually, I would rather have my liver removed, pureeded, and spoon fed back to me than be someone who is successful because I found it is profitable to be a professional liar like Michael Moore.

Posted by: zipity at May 23, 2004 at 10:36 AM

Somehow the thought of Moore receiving an award with the title "Palme" in it seems appropriate. Infact, why don't we rename the award to the "Palme Poilue".

Posted by: Craig Mc at May 23, 2004 at 10:49 AM

***Don't you wish you were as successful at Michael Moore, Tim?***

Pshaw, Miranda. You're just jealous, 'cause Moore's a bigger liar than you. Don't let it show, babe. Just keep working at your craft, and you'll eventually reach Moore's level.

Posted by: Byron_the_Aussie at May 23, 2004 at 10:58 AM

Such a liar. Such an awful liar. But such a successful businessman. And that's all that really counts - live the American dream any way you can: lie, lie, lie, cheat cheat, cheat, win, win, win. Self-made too. Just a high-school diploma and lotsa balls. He's a Republican's dream and a Neo-con's nightmare. Only fitting that GWB is himself brought undone by "dirty lies", huh?

Godard is right, Moore doesn't know what he's doing - but then neither do the crowd he's aiming at.

Posted by: Miranda Divide at May 23, 2004 at 11:03 AM

In fact, no one knows what they are doing except Miranda, right? Yeah, you are the one light of shining truth in a world of sludgy lies. Keep it up -- we missed your entertaining offerings while Tim was away. Oh wait -- no we didn't.

The thing about Micheal is, that he chose eight of them for meat, not as pets.

Posted by: Charles at May 23, 2004 at 11:46 AM

Ah Miranda, the American Dream is encapsulated in Horatio Alger's stories, of people starting at the bottom and working their way up. They do not lie and cheat, but achieve success honestly. But "lie, lie, lie, cheat, cheat, cheat" accurately encapsulates the Democrat's view of how to win at politics. Just note how the Democratic machines in cities like Chicago instill such loyalty in their voters that the latter keep voting for Democratic politicians decades after death. Another good example is how as soon as they got Campaign Finance Reform through the Democrats immediately started cheating on it. For lies you can look pretty much at any speech by Chappaquiddick Ted. The left is even worse for lies. Just look at how they are still trying to convince people that Castro is something other than the premier fascist of the Western Hemisphere, and how Communist Russia really wasn't all that bad, nover mind all those millions of murdered people and concentration camps.

Posted by: carlos at May 23, 2004 at 01:11 PM

OK Carlos, I will say it slow and in all caps, since you don't seem to GET IT. Michael Moore holds himself out as a DOCUMENTARIAN. This implies a certain amount of fact checking and, dare I say it HONESTY. It is one thing to shade, or color a subject with an inherent unavoidable point of view, but wanton LIES put you in the world of fiction. GET IT? I didn't think so....

Well said Michael. Miranda's attitude ('yeah sure, he's a liar but hey, he successfull so its fine') really says a lot about the lefts morality and the methods they use to make their points.
(see Peirs 'it doesn't matter if they were fake, that still happened over there' Morgan. Or the Boston 'we'll show you pics of rapes that we know are false, but we won't show you real pics of a beheading because it might make you feel bad' Globe.

And how ironic is it that tony chimes in with the "bush administration lied" lie. Even before they found the Sarin and Mustard gas, the lefts willingness to ignore the fact that pre-war, vitually all of the worlds intelligence agencies said the same thing as Bush re WMD's in Iraq, yet its only Bush that is the "liar", shows the level of dishonesty the left will stoop too.

Posted by: zzx375 at May 23, 2004 at 02:20 PM

carlos, you sure do stretch and twist things, don't you?

You are adamant that Bush lied, but don't care that Clinton did, but both were presidents. You also ignore that Clinton did kill -- remember Bosnia? The aerial bombardments there? The cruise missile strike on the aspirin factory in the Sudan? Or wasn't the body count high enough during his administration? How many deaths do you need before your moral outrage is triggered?

You reject that Moore lies about the murders of thousands of people (American, Bali, Spanish, Australian, plus many other countries), but you are happy to support child killers because the children were Isreali.

The really pathetic thing about you is that you are a classic example of the moonbat left -- always morally pure, never wrong, won't change, and is happy to sneer at people on the other side of the fence.

That, of course, assumes that you honestly believe this left wing moonbat crap, and aren't trolling because your doctor warned you off of wanking.

See the thing is Carlos, for someone like you, there's nothing immoral about screwing an intern who works for you (like Clinton did), or screwing the boss so he'll get you a job at the UN (like Lewinsky did.) Similarly, your kind isn't concerned that Moore's latest crockumentary is chock full of lies, because you don't recognise lying as immoral. You're comfortable with the actions of Clinton, Lewinsky, and Moore, because their level of morality- zero- reflects your own.

Moore has fully surrendered himself to the proposition that he is the most important being on Earth. No one else even comes close. Why does he portray America as a stupid fat white man?
Because America is the most important country on Earth. Without us each and every other democracy would have been picked off one at a time or in bunches. Just like baby chicks fallen from the nest.
The danger is that we as Americans will become like Moore, ruled by self interest. If that happens we will stop standing up against the wrongs of the world. We will stop defending the South Koreas, Sudans, Kosovos, Polands Frances Belguims Englands Brazils Grenadas Haitis Iraqs Vietnams. But most importantly we will have stopped defending what is right.

I don't begrudge any other man making a living honestly. Thats not what he does. Moore is a bandit. He steals our nations reputation and sells it to gullable foreigners. He is magnitudes more evil then any Enron executive.

If I ever met him in the street, I would take it out of his hide. I would beat that lardass until he puked up bile. That would be worth a trip to jail for me. I would go with a smile on my face, and tell everyone in the holding tank why I am there too.

It's obvious that Moore's target audience is the 'believe anything anti-Americans'. These are the people who support him by giving him money for his books and movies.

"so i'm to assume that after the bush administration lied about weapons of mass destruction .."

Pres. Bush 'lied' about these things in the same way the UN and most of the EU countries did. All were convinced Saddam had the WMDs. Clinton has even said this was his assumption as well.

So, keep repeating 'Bush lied about WMDs', if it is something you need to do. But don't expect that thinking people believe this. It's become a slogan for the Left. That's all. Just a slogan. It has no basis in fact.

2. "I want to make sure if I do nothing else for the rest of this year that those who died in Iraq have not died in vain." - This is the one true thing he said, if you define "those who died in Iraq" as only including terrorists, Baathist thugs, and religious zealots. He sure as hell isn't referring to U.S. servicemen, as he has sided with the enemy, likening them to the Minutemen.

Posted by: Tommy Shanks at May 24, 2004 at 04:14 AM

Quentin George _ I object to your calling Michael Moore a chimp.

Chimps can be trained to do useful work and provide hours of innocent entertainment.

Plus we can stuff them in rockets and shoot them in the air and we can't do that with a Moore-size payload until we get the shuttles running again...

Posted by: Richard McEnroe at May 24, 2004 at 04:20 AM

Not to mention that chimps actually serve a function in the ecology. Moore is more like pollution. Mercury, lead, and other heavy metals, I think.

Besides, I'm not sure a shuttle for work for Moore. Moore's weight, yes, his volume, no. NASA might have to use a trash compactor to fit him into the cargo bay.

Posted by: The Real JeffS at May 24, 2004 at 04:26 AM

I'm awfully tired of Moore's sad and pathetic No Chow Left Behind act. So what if he's huge in France. He's huge everywhere he goes. I wonder if the French investigators looking into what might have caused yesterday's structural collapse at a Paris airport have inquired of Moore's whereabouts after he accepted his award in Cannes the night before.

Posted by: Quentin George at May 24, 2004 at 08:28 AM

Chimps aside, wasn't it the Swiss-French architect Corbu who said "Less is Moore"?? The French used to get it. Their standards these days reflect an unnuanced simplisme. Loving Mikey Moore is akin to conflating Disney and McDonald's with American soul, when all three are just commercial ventures.

Should we equate France with brie and bad poetry? With mere merlot and Peugeot? What about Chirac and kickbacks? The French have become so shrill and strident regarding the USA. Perhaps Americans should return the favor by forever casting Frenchmen as barbarians who would trample the rights of mimes and as incompetents who would construct collapsing airport terminals...

I'm at a loss. Can someone explain how such a loony leftist as Moore can attract such mainstream success and adulation?

Been to any good weddings lately?

Posted by: Miranda Divide at May 24, 2004 at 12:41 PM

Posted by: Andrea Harris at May 24, 2004 at 12:57 PM

Miranda Divide wants to know how "a loony leftist as Moore can attract such mainstream success and adulation?"

Easy. Leftists are loony, and Moore's success is less "mainstream" than advertised. The middle hasn't moved to the left, but Hollywood and the NYT best-seller list cater to their own. Flyover types in the USA and recently liberated eastern European peoples tend not to fawn over Mikey's brand of socialism and propaganda.

That the French go bonkers over Moore's anti-Americanism is old news. Books and movies coming out to debunk Moore's distortions and lies are the new news.

Posted by: c at May 24, 2004 at 01:00 PM

By the way, Miranda, is your "wedding" quip related to this "wedding" that was no wedding? Where

troops did not find anything -- such as a wedding tent, gifts, musical instruments, decorations or leftover food -- that would indicate a wedding had been held.

And
video showing dead children killed was actually recorded in Ramadi, far from the attack scene.

That wedding?

Obviously it is easy to lie to you, Miranda. You believed the "wedding" lie; you probably also believe in the Plastic Turkey, and in your heart of hearts are sure that that nice Saddam Hussein was only an inoffensive collector of stamps and fuzzy toys who was only reluctantly set up as dictator of Iraq (by the evil Rumsfeld CIA Zionist stooge), who only wanted the best for his people. Hey! I'm a writing desk and Tim Blair is made of Fine Corinthian Leather! You can believe it -- it's on the Internet!

Posted by: Andrea Harris at May 24, 2004 at 01:22 PM

Once there was a flash flood in Hawaii. At that time, CNN was the only 24 hour news network. They did a piece on it, and showed video clips of what appeared to be horrendus damage to homes and streets.

The headquarters of a large federal agency (with some disaster response authorities [not FEMA]) saw this news segment, and promptly jerked the trigger. Based solely on that bulletin, they began to spend several hundred thousand dollars to help this stricken area to recover from a major disaster. Eventually, someone called the Hawaii office and ordered them to rush out to this site.

The Hawaii office responded with, "What disaster?"

It turned out that a localized cloudburst had flooded one block of one street, and damaged maybe 4 homes. While a disaster to the families, the state of Hawaii and various relief agencies were already on site, and things were under control. Federal assistance was not being requested.

The agency headquarters then stood down, quite embarrassed, and made sure they didn't do that again.

My point, you ask?

If CNN can make a one block flash flood look like a horrendus disaster, then the majority of the media with an endless flow of misinformation and hype can make a minority of the US population supporting and adoring Michael The Moor look like a vast majority.

All the media needs are people who don't think about what they see, don't question what they read, and are too lazy to research the facts for themselves. The rest is just entertainment.

Do you understand now, Miranda?

Posted by: The Real JeffS at May 24, 2004 at 01:55 PM

But, Andrea, the British Balderdash Corporation and alJeers said it was a wedding party--- That they did not investigate or provide verifiable proof rises to Moore's credible standard of 'mockumentary'.

French, Euro and American leftists will believe the worst because film, extremist polemicists and anti-american journalists do not tell fanciful stories...

You sad envious trolls. Michael Moore makes a movie that is handed rave reviews and you wet yourself in anger. You and Fred Barnes should create a support group where you can hold hands and cry about how unfair the whole world is.

Fred Barnes, big man that he is, waits from July of 2002 until now to call Michael Moore out as a liar. And he devotes a whole column to it. Like the trolls on this thread, Moore's success at Cannes appears to have raised his pique at long last.

Well, besides calling Michael Moore fat, hairy, a masturbator (implied with the hairy hands) and so on, I have not read one substantive criticim of his work. That makes you all a pretty miserable bunch of hacks and makes this thread a giant circle jerk (to use your own creative imagery).

Happy Trolling!

Andrea Harris, and C,

Those who live in a glass house shouldn't throw stones. AP and The Guardian report there is a videotape of the wedding party.

In the videotape you can see a wedding DJ and juxtaposed is the photo of this same man dead, wearing the same shirt.

The Real JeffS,

You refer to Michael Moore as Michael The Moor. What did you mean to imply by that name? That he is a Moor, and by extension, a muslim? Is that some sort of slur? I sure it was just a poorly thought out pun that popped into your head.

So please, think before you write.

You heard it here first,

Tom Clancy and General Zinni join the ranks of Michael Moore et al. criticizing the reasons for the war with Iraq.

I can't wait to hear the trolls go to work to tear apart two more staunch republicans who think Bush f'd up.

Hey trollhunter, let's hook-up!

Trollhunter: you post anti-Bush sources like the Guardian and Salon as proof, then you lecture other commenters to "think before you write." Time for you to go back to eating your own smegma.

Miranda: Hey trollhunter, let's hook-up! Ewww... creepy. But I guess you and he are made for each other.
