POSTER BOY

Hey, peaceniks! You know those hilarious anti-war posters that you love? Turns out they’re the work of a filthy liar.

Just thought you’d like to know.

UPDATE: Ha!

Hey, so he wasn't a real "ranger". Maybe he played one on TV. Or he was a singer in Night Ranger. Or he was a fan of the Rangers. Come on. Give him a break. His outrage, at least, is real!!!

"I feel awful about it. It was a lie that just grew and grew and grew," Wright, 34, told us Friday

Funny, the lie grew with his ego, and book sales.

what a creep.

Wonder if this guy had anything to do with the "Hitler Diaries," eh? Incidentally, you gotta love the B&W photo of him on Ace of Spades' site, http://ace-o-spades.blogspot.com/2004_04_25_ace-o-spades_archive.html with his menacingly meaningful, pugilistically purposeful glare.

What an un-plucked willnot.

Posted by: geezer at May 3, 2004 at 05:25 AM

Don't worry too much about it. Clowns like this get theirs in the end.

One day he'll be rotting with his buddies Yassin, Rantisi, bin Laden, et al., in the lowest circle of Hell.

Posted by: Barbara Skolaut at May 3, 2004 at 05:28 AM

I profusely apologize for fucking up that link, and promise to punish myself in an appropriately disgusting manner.

Actually, Rene Gonzalez did it.

Posted by: geezer at May 3, 2004 at 05:29 AM

I read about this prick on other blogs. All blow and no go. Sounds like most of the other people selling themselves to the left wing liberals. Amazing thing, nuance. Especially when it's just a lie, and it bites the person in the butt. Like now.

Posted by: JeffS at May 3, 2004 at 05:35 AM

Gotta admit it'd look good on a resume for the NYT, though.

Cheap shot, but I knew somebody'd make it eventually, so it might as well have been me!

Posted by: geezer at May 3, 2004 at 05:44 AM

The fraud tearfully promised the Washington Post he'd be posting a confession and apology on his website. Not there yet.

Posted by: Richard McEnroe at May 3, 2004 at 05:48 AM

I want this wanker to get all that is coming to him. Can his publisher sue him for misrepresenting himself? He is done, tho, career wise, his only publishing future is on indymedia. Taking off on something Greyhawk said, he claimed brotherhood with real GI's. That is what he should hang for!

Posted by: debbie at May 3, 2004 at 05:59 AM

You've all got to go read the Original Apology on Treachers site. He actually had the balls to still rail on about Bush lying... in his apology for lying! Not to mention blaming the media for not fact checking him.

It's amazing.

Posted by: Dash at May 3, 2004 at 07:27 AM

And if you want to bother registering on his Delphi forum (I've got a couple links to it on my blog), his continuing rationalizations are strangely fascinating. He's telling the truth about why he lied, you see, and everybody else is lying about why he told the truth. I think that's what he's saying, at least.

Posted by: Jim Treacher at May 3, 2004 at 08:06 AM

I just read the original "apology" on Treacher's web site. Amazing. This guy apologies about lying.....and never trips to the fact that he could have stopped everything dead just by confesssing.

No, he had to be "exposed" by someone else. That was the only way for him, it seems. Then he "apologizes".

I have never seen such open hypocrisy before. Says he (paraphrased, not verbatim), "I was wrong to lie, but I was right because no one caught me, and everyone else lies, too!"

All he wanted was a nice paycheck, and he prostituted himself to get it. The thing is, hookers are more honest than he is. What a wuss.

Posted by: JeffS at May 3, 2004 at 08:41 AM

We need a new word.

A new word for all those make-believe heroes who claim military service they never served to give themselves a phony "cred".

Whether you're talking about Michael Cimino claiming to be a Green Beret, or that doofus they just ran out of the WGA, or Micah "I was a Ranger and you weren't" Wright, or even John Forbes Kerry, they need to be pinned down on it.

How does "rubber-chickenhawk" sound?

— Richard McEnroe

Posted by: Richard McEnroe at May 3, 2004 at 08:52 AM

"rubber chickenhawk" isn't good for sound bites, Richard. I suggest "rubberhawk".

Posted by: JeffS at May 3, 2004 at 09:01 AM

I like "rubber chicken" myself.

Posted by: Andrea Harris at May 3, 2004 at 09:11 AM

Hell just call them Micah's.

"Damn, that Michah just got Fisked"

Posted by: Dash at May 3, 2004 at 09:17 AM

This could be the subject of Tim's next poll: "A new word for make believe heros".

Posted by: JeffS at May 3, 2004 at 09:17 AM

Captain Ed suggests "rubberdove"; I think that covers the value of such people much better than any word that includes "hawk". Although rubber chicken has something going for it, too, admittedly. Might be a bit tainted by the whole chickenhawk nonsense though.

Posted by: PW at May 3, 2004 at 09:24 AM

Cuckoohawk? They are basically nuts to claim something they didn't do, plus Cuckoos rely on deceiving others to provide for their young.

Posted by: Rob at May 3, 2004 at 09:31 AM

I like Robs "cuckoohawk" - has a nice hook to phony's.
Or maybe "micahhawk", to describe the fakes trying to get some sort of benefit from sacrifices made by others, as well as describing those that those that chant the line "chickenhawk" to try and quash anyone who doesn't agree with them on a miltary issue.

Posted by: Michael at May 3, 2004 at 10:05 AM

"micahhawk" has a good ring, irony, and, yes, even nuance. Plus it will be a fitting tribute to the lying jerk that opened the door.

I vote for "micahhawk"!

Posted by: JeffS at May 3, 2004 at 10:14 AM

All he needed to say was, "Hey, I'm a propagandist and being a 'war veteran' enhanced my effectiveness." Or simply to paraphrase Picasso, "Great propagandists lie." And he'd be right, but nonetheless on the wrong side of the issue.

Posted by: S.A. Smith at May 3, 2004 at 10:55 AM

What fantastic posters. Thanks very much for drawing my attention to this guy's spot-on art work. Who gives a flying f**k abt his fake war record. His art is more powerful than his lousy reputation. Thanks again bloghead. Read quickly sheep, this'll be gone soon.

Posted by: Miranda Divide at May 3, 2004 at 11:05 AM

Go nuts guys. I realize you have had so little to revel in lately. I'm sure this whole unfortunate incident will result in nothing other that more sales of those fabulous t-shirts Wright makes. I just ordered two. See guys, he is an artist. I don't really care or think about what he has to say. Lots of artists were not particularly nice guys. Some were nuts. (See Picasso, Van Gogh, Jim Morrison, Andy Kaufman) But see, when an artist lies it really only hurts the artist. Now when we have a POTUS, a VPOTUS, a NSA, a SOS, and a SOD (who'd I forget?) who all lie we have a lot of folks dead, a trashed world rep, a jihad recruiting call, and several giant leaps backward in the war on terror--and hopefully a new administration in November. But go nuts over this artist and thanks for the link to his clever work. I hope Mr.Wright gets help for his personal problems.

Posted by: O'McSomething at May 3, 2004 at 11:22 AM

Who gives a flying f**k abt his fake war record.

Clearly YOU do Miranda, otherwise you wouldn't be trying so desperately to troll attention away from it.

Posted by: JB at May 3, 2004 at 11:27 AM

No doubt certain parties will try to turn the issue back to Bush.

Posted by: Andjam at May 3, 2004 at 11:28 AM

His posters were lies.

So I guess it's no surprise that his life story was also a lie.

Posted by: EvilPundit at May 3, 2004 at 11:50 AM

Y'know, the interesting thing about the left is how they always manage to change the subject. Have you noticed that?

Micahhawk claimed to be against war because he had been to war. WOW, the lefties love him.

Oh, wait, he lied about his war record. Hell, he admits lying, and brags about it. Well, yeah, sez the left, he did lie, but so did [fill in the blank]. That makes it just fine, even though the accusation that [fill in the blank] might have lied is not proven; certain [fill in the blank] hasn't publically admitted it.

And so Micahhawk's record is unblemished in their eyes. After all, he supports their cause, right? He isn't on the other side of the fence, so he is OK.

It's like they can't confess to their own problems, even when the facts are flung into their faces. I think this is called "denial".

Now, if there was evidence that [fill in the blank] lied, I'd like to see it. Funny thing it, most of the evidence so far has been, at best, circumstantial, and damned little of that. More often, the "evidence" has been facts and history twisted, distorted, and hidden to support the assumptions of the left. Disinformation at its worse.

And the funny thing is, that fits the pattern of support for Micahhawk perfectly. I am not surprised at that.

Posted by: JeffS at May 3, 2004 at 11:54 AM

Hehe, you just know this is killing the Micah fans. One day he's a Left hero, speaking out against "the man", fighting for justice! The next, a lying hack who is profiting off war.

Make a clever poster about that, douche bag.

Posted by: Dash at May 3, 2004 at 12:01 PM

Rubberhawk...rubberchicken...cuckoohawk....whatever!

I'd just call him, and his ilk.....chickensh!t.

Miranda:
Who gives a flying f**k abt his fake war record. His art is more powerful than his lousy reputation.

You know Mirandy, the only thing missing from your post was the statement, "his art, it really makes you think." Of course, I can see how that statement would be a little over the top even for a pathological liar like you.

Other Wright defenders seem to agree that thought isn't necessary, to wit O'McSomething:

See guys, he is an artist. I don't really care or think about what he has to say.

Yup, who cares what the message is, as long as it looks good! Thinking is for stupid right-wingers only, obviously, as further evidenced by O'Mc's mindless parroting of the leftoid belief that the entire Bush administration is a bunch of liars. Evidence, arguments, facts...what's that?

With that kind of logic, the only thing that stands in the way of a Bush 50-state sweep in November is the lack of snazzy "Bush-Cheney 2004" campaign posters. Hey Sortelli, could we get you to volunteer? :-)

Posted by: PW at May 3, 2004 at 12:15 PM

I wanna make Bush-Rice posters. :(

Posted by: Sortelli at May 3, 2004 at 12:19 PM

Oh look, the trolls have visited. It's not surprising that people like Miranda and the cutely named "O'Mcsomething" dote on fake "art" like the stuff Wright put out, since they are fake human beings.

Posted by: Andrea Harris at May 3, 2004 at 12:21 PM

Perhaps Micahhawk will do campaign posters for John Kerry. For free, as a public service to make up for his rationalized lying.

Posters made for a guy who was in Vietnam (just ask him) drawn by a guy who lied about being in the military (just ask him). There nuance here. Hell, there's comedy!

Posted by: JeffS at May 3, 2004 at 12:23 PM

PLASTIC human beings! Getting served by a fake Army Ranger!

Posted by: Sortelli at May 3, 2004 at 12:23 PM

If this turd is an artist, Michael Moore is a genuine grease-knuckled working stiff.
He's pinched other artists' material and changed it here and there. Anyone wanna buy my Mona Lisa with a moustache? I'm a great artist.

Posted by: slatts at May 3, 2004 at 02:10 PM

Surely this guy is some sort of postmodern performance artist deliberately trying to take the piss out of the Left?

That "art" of his is so over the top that any sane person viewing it would only shake their head in wonder at the credulity of its creator and his adherents.

Posted by: Pencil at May 3, 2004 at 02:20 PM

There once was a Micah Wright
who shilled for the Left, not the Right
He lied that he was a combat vet
to discredit Iraq as another Tet
When caught, he scoffed that the truth's too trite.

There once was a faux GI Joe
who was exposed as a lying leftist ho'
Posing as a brave Army Ranger
he sold books that America's the danger
Now we know ruse lips sink ships for dough.

There once was a poster photo-shopper
who distorted WWII into an Iraq war stopper
His "art" was derivative
and his politics so manipulative
that his liberal "truth" morphed into a literal whopper.

Posted by: c at May 3, 2004 at 02:36 PM

Miranda,

You're right, those posters are gorgeous. Some of them are even funny, too.

But they're not his artwork. He took genuine old WWII posters and changed the text on them. He never tried to pass them off as his own.

He is a real artist, or at least a real cartoonist. You'll have to get someone else to tell you whether his own artwork is any good; I don't know.

His original apology, as by captured by Treacher, is a work of art in its own right. If I may paraphrase, "Well, some assholes were giving me a hard time, so I told them this lie to shut them up. I mean, why not? It worked. And then I found I could profit by my lie, so I kept telling it. Who wouldn't? Then I got a lot of press attention, and I found that the stupid media didn't check a single fact. What a bunch of sheep. At that point my "lie" began to be a "hoax", because, as we all know, it's cool to hoax the media, but not cool to lie, even when they're actually the same thing.

Why didn't I keep on doing it? Well, the thing started to collapse, and I couldn't keep thinking up new lies. So I'll pretend to be all sorry and stuff (and if you believe that you'll believe anything, you stupid sheep), and I'll shed a few crocodile tears for Pat Tillman, and that'll make it all better."

Hmmm. Those last few sentences may be a very loose paraphrase. But very rarely do you get such brazen, barefaced truth, especially from a liar. I envy his lack of shame.

Posted by: Angie Schultz at May 3, 2004 at 03:48 PM

You guys, don't you get it? He's lying about his lies! He actually did serve in the Rangers!

No?

Oh, well, then, never mind.

Posted by: david at May 3, 2004 at 06:44 PM

Ebaying his credibility. Classic.
