NEWS CHUNKS

• Live from Florida: clog blogging!

• The New York Times continues on the path to jokedom.

• Lileks on the joys of microlife.

• Moorewatch has received its first death threat. Congrats!

• From Reuters, the news agency you’ve learned to trust:

The Bush administration acknowledged today that its ambitious plan to transfer sovereignty directly to a democratically elected government in Iraq was unlikely to succeed after Iraqis insisted on elections untainted by US influence.

• Millions of things live in your shower. That’s your shower, not mine.

• Maybe they’re the same type of menacing microbes that have taken over Robert Manne’s brain. (UPDATE. Tim Dunlop has more on Sponge Bob.)

• Former blogger David Morgan will appear on Who Wants To Be a Millionaire? this Tuesday night. Sure beats PayPal!

Wow, Lileks is my height. For some reason I had assumed he was hugely elongated like all the other Midewesterners I have ever met. Live and learn. But now we have to know -- how tall is Tim Blair? Tell, tell!

A couple of questions it would be nice to have Manne answer:

1) As a tenured academic is a soft subject, does he consider hiself "privileged"? How many hours a week does he work for his high pay and generous super?

2) He would be paid around about a thousand dollars, perhaps more, for each article by the Fairfax press. Does he write them in the University's (ie the Taxpayer's) tmie, or using university offices, librariy, e-mail, internet and other university resources?

I'm a towering five foot nine -- exactly, or so I've read, the average height for an adult Australia male. Which explains why I see everything from the proper perspective.

My father, and all my uncles on his side of the family, were all six foot three and above. Tragically, my mother hails from a long line of midgets; well, not tragically for me, but certainly for my sister, whose athletic career was cut (literally) short by her stumpy legs. Beyond a certain point, no amount of training or dedication can compensate for non-long limbs.

She still runs marathons, by the way, and competes in triathlons. Just not at pro level.

Apparently the Michael Moore death threat was traced by moorewatch site to an Australian hotmail account which brought this posting in the comments from Lee who seems to be the Moorewatch blogger ......

Yeah, I forwarded it to Hotmail. I'll wait to hear from them (if at all) before I do anything else. Besides, this guy's from Australia, the socialist utopia where there is no violence, and I'm a paranoid, scared, culture-of-fear American, barricaded in my apartment surrounded by firepower. (At least that's what Michael Moore says.)

David Morgan's on WWTBAM again? Does he spend all day SMSing or what?!

Posted by: Yobbo at February 23, 2004 at 05:53 PM

Yobbo,

No, I just called before the season started, figuring that hardly anyone else would be.
