SANE VS INSANE

Today’s column in The Daily Telegraph mentions Stalin Death Crispies, Maoist Flakes, Anarcho-Syndicalist Bix, Socialist Bran, Third Way Brits, Commie Loco Pops, Environmentalist Wheat Bubbles, and, by way of contrast, Michael Totten, Christopher Hitchens, Jim Nolan, and Pamela Bone.

UPDATE. Jim Nolan writes:

In what must count as the grossest defamation imaginable, you have described me as a ... 'Melbourne Barrister'. I am of course from Sydney, as any sane person is. Melbourne indeed!!!

I expect the usual groveling apology and massive damages, blood money, a Michael Moore dart board etc etc

The thing is, Jim seems so reasonable and intelligent I just assumed he’d have to be from Melbourne. Better call those lawyers ...

And a very appropriate choice you are to replace David Penberthy while he is on leave. A jouro who can inject a bit of humour while constructing well formed reasonable arguments. How about you bump Mark Day an write regularly for them, with you and Penberthy the evil SMH would be destroyed.

They particularly like Tim’s phrase “leftist howler monkeys,” & have been comparing it with “barking moonbats.” While the latter phrase retains its immediately overwhelming appeal, Tim’s phrase is entrenching itself in their hearts through its abiding deeper accuracies.

I used to think, Tim, your occasional featuring and linking of attractive yet slutty-looking women was a personal thing. Then I saw the photo next to your column. It's actually an Australian thing, isn't it?

Congratulations TB, on a year of brilliant satirical commentary.

The Right is certainly making a mockery of the mad Left, who long ago gave up practical realism for hysterical moralism.

So the life of Right wing satirist is made easier when the Left wing subject is such a target-rich environment.

But pointing out the folly of the Left does not prove the sagacity of the Right.

In particular, the Bush admin has presided over a continuing:

  • deterioration in the US's fiscal situation

  • opne-ended escalation in the US's ME security committment

No amount of beating dumb Lefties over the head and shoulders is going to make these things come good.
