DUTCH WATER TORTURE

Mark Steyn on the great sadness:

A captured Saddam with a tongue depressor in his mouth. His tongue can't be half as depressed as the French, John Kerry, Howard Dean, The Guardian et al. They've all been saving for months that the Coalition needs to hand over more power and authority to Iraqis. Handing over Saddam to be tried in Baghdad is an excellent start. Or do they now want him on a plane to the Hague?

That’s what Wesley Clark would do to Osama bin Laden. His reasoning isn't bad, actually.

I'm sure that Uday gave his prisoners elaborate dental care before he stuffed them down a goddamned plastic shredder.

Thank Christ he was caught in Iraq and is going to be handed over to the new Iraqi Government not the UN or EU. Now he can be killed in an appropriately demeaning way.

Giving him to the Euros is a terrible idea. First, he won't be executed. Second, the Euro trial will be custom made for jihadi propaganda - it sets up the whole persecution of Islam thing for them too well. Having the Iraqis try him destroys the credibility of the whole pan-Arab thing, bu showing his own people hated the bearer of the pan-Arab standard-bearer.

Fortunately, neither the US nor Iraq is a signatory to the ICC, and there is no way in hell the Iraqis and GWB will bend their knee to the Euros on this one.
