ON GOING UNNOTICED

Arnie’s vote in far, far north-eastern California is bound to be reduced by this:

The news out of New England is vandals have defaced Robert Frost's farmhouse in Derry, New Hampshire, spray-painting the south side of the poet's house--a national landmark--with swastikas and the slogans "Arnold is a racist" and "Arnold is a Nazi." That makes it official: recall has taken the road more traveled--by partisan nimrods.

By the way, my futuristic vantage point in Australia (where it is already late afternoon Tuesday) enables me to tell you who won the election. I don't want to spoil the fun for everyone, so I'll just say this: it's the first time I've ever heard a victory speech consisting entirely of "Yes! Yes! Ohhhh, Yesss!"

Unfortunately, Arnold seems now doomed to lose if mental giants such as these folk are now against him. And no doubt they'll have all of mainstream California (nay, America) behind them after this one!

BTW, did anyone here happen to notice that Arnold's been using the hit song "We're Not Gonna Take it Anymore" by '80s rockers TWISTED SISTER?

ROCK ON!!

No Shit Richard?? That is fantastic. His team is far cleverer than I thought, that really is a great and catchy theme for the campaign. Pity one of our local boring politicians didn't have the guts to do something similar. We normally get some Muzak version of Greensleeves or similar shite.

Right Thinking links to some interesting background on one of the people accusing Arnie of wrongdoing.

Wouldn't that be the funniest thing? There would have to be a clause about maintaining current working commitments though! Sure would give a new meaning to "pressing the flesh" wouldn't it?

I'd make her kiss my babies, if you know what I mean.

She's spent a lot of time on the stump, if you know what I mean.

Posted by: scott h. at October 7, 2003 at 05:31 PM

She's taken some interesting positions, if you get my drift.

Posted by: scott h. at October 7, 2003 at 05:35 PM

She's good on "gun control", if you hear what I'm saying.

Posted by: scott h. at October 7, 2003 at 05:41 PM

She's an expert on the penal system, if you see where I'm going. Is this thing on? She won't be lying down on the job, this one anyway. Hey-o! She's for the people, sometimes 2 or 3 at a time. Thank you, folks, and please tip your waitress.

And just like Scott H. she's a repeat performer.

Seems to me that those Republicans who had a problem with the sleaze and sex of the Clinton administration should apply the same standards to the Californian election... which is not to say that Arnie should be immediately disqualified because of all these 'allegations of sexual misconduct' - or that we should immediately believe the stories of every one of these women - but consistency is important...

TimT,
Bill's actions in the White House - while President - of sexual relations with a junior employee - are indistinguishable to you from those of Arnold Schwarzenegger - many, many years ago - while an actor, not a publically-elected official?

Not only did Arnold use Twisted Sister's song, he performed it with Dee Snyder today on the campaign trail. One of the best weird crossover pictures of the campaign.

Tim T, have you checked moveon.org lately, it's funny what a difference a few years make.

What chu talkin' 'bout, Willis?

It's amazing. I went on BBC online, where they have a page set up for comments on the recall. People from all over the UK and Gambia, were commenting, mostly attacking Arnold.

I informed them Arnold was going to win and he's going to be successful in bringing back life to California. Look at what he's done just by running! You've got Gambian speculating on the voter turnout in California!! What a hoot!

Investors, businessmen everywhere will be taking another look at California just because of this election. Get in and invest early.

Mary,it seems, has an unfair advantage.

Ilibcc and Brendan,

Arnie and Bill Clinton being Americans and me being Australian, I know nothing about the claims of sexual harassment made against them - apart from the fact that claims have been made against them. But in any case, I'd say that we'd have to treat each of the claims fairly and reasonably - asking, in each case, where is the evidence, etc, etc.
Sexual harassment should be what's at question here, not the politics of any of the accused or the accusers.

Posted by: TimT at October 8, 2003 at 12:35 PM

With Arnie it looks trumped up, with Clinton there's no doubt, yet every feminist flew to his defence. Amazingly, or maybe not, Maureen Dowd agrees.
