THE FRENCH DEFAULT MODE

Having learned nothing from recent events, Jacques Chirac and Dominique de Villepin want the UN to run the show in Iraq. (Why aren’t they demanding UN intervention in France?) Leave it to Mark Steyn to explain why UN control might not be such a good idea.

The UN won't go into France because the French will be too surly and ungrateful . . . . look at the gratitude the Americans and Brits got for WW2.

If you want someone to like you, do them a favour. If you want someone to hate you forever, do them a really, really big favour.

"Surly", "ungrateful" ... you forgot "arrogant", "rude" and "smelly". The standard's slipping here!

No, the UN won't go into France. it's too busy providing food packages for every man woman and child in Iraq! True.

And you have some links to prove that, "Billy"? Or do you just swallow hook, line, and sinker what you read on Indymedia or Commondreams.org?

Hey Andrea, you are way too cynical. No, i don't read those "sources" you mention. But I will have a look.

No the source I use is the United Nations itself. The UN World Food Programme, the world's largest humaitarian aid organisation feeding more than 80 million people every year, has among its many crises responsibility for delivering food aid to every iraqi alive today.

Check it out for yourself: www.wfp.org.

blessed are the peacemakers, love Billy

Oh, well there you are, a totally unbiased source. So silly for me to be skeptical.

Posted by: Andrea Harris at August 31, 2003 at 11:04 AM

It's not a "source", it's a fact. In fact the US government is by far the biggest donor to the WFP. Who else is going to feed iraq in the midst of such tumult? Do you think they just rolled out a chain of demountable Golden Arches? Want fries with that freedom and democracy? No, that comes much later.

But check it out for yourself. Don't take my impeccable word for it. Just like I wouldn't take your say-so for anything.

On second thoughts, it's probably better that you stay uninformed. I wouldn't want to be responsible for such information falling into the wrong hands.

You have just contradicted your self Billy Bloggs , the UN doesn't supply the food its a distributor who is currently packing up there pens and papers and going home after they screwed up.

Posted by: Gary at August 31, 2003 at 05:21 PM

Oh, right. It's a distributor. Like the US government is just a 'distibutor' of military ordinance.
