PUNDIT LAFF WARS
Matt Welch and Mark Steyn duke it out for the best lines arising from the comedic motherlode that is California politics.
Meanwhile Democrat John Garamendi has wussed it and Arianna Huffington has had her first confrontation with Arnie’s Army:
Huffington, who hugged Schwarzenegger's wife, journalist Maria Shriver, before filing her papers to run, spoke to the crowd, making a pitch for more fuel-efficient vehicles by pointing out that the actor had arrived in an SUV while she had come in a hybrid vehicle. She was met by a few boos and cries of "Arnold, Arnold."
UPDATE. With Welch and Steyn to choose from for its Arnie coverage, the SMH opts for Maureen Dowd.

The link to the Matt Welch article is broken (National Post site error message "Object required"). The link on Glenn Reynold's site has the same problem.

He could run on a joint ticket with the Governator, along the lines of the head mutant in "Total Recall".
(They would have to be surgically conjoined, however).
Has anyone seen a picture Marey Carey(sp?)? She is a Mariah looking porn star running for Gov... It's on Yahoo most popular.

I know he ain't a famous journalist or nothing, but my boyfriend's already made that reference.
And I'm betting if you Google that phrase you find about 70,000 other articles similarly titled. It's too obvious NOT to hit.
Posted by: ilyka at August 10, 2003 at 01:48 PMI vaguely remember some comedy routine about Arnold pronouncing "gubernatorial". Anybody remember that? Maybe Dana Carvey did it in his stand up. Anyone? (I tried a search, but the Google, it does nothing!)
Posted by: scott h. at August 10, 2003 at 02:07 PMNo, but I DID hear the way Arnold pronounced "Kall-ee-vorn-ya".
Oh, and now that the deadline to file has passed, I feel safe to point out that Davis's strategy to keep other Democrats on the ballot was grossly misguided. Instead, he should have encouraged California Senator Barbra Boxer to run in the election. Most Republicans will gladly vote Davis out, even if it hands the reigns over to Bustamante, but they would have though long and hard about doing so if Boxer had been on the ballot.
