Here here.

Was first thing i saw on sky news this morning - and it made me think that maybe sometimes in certain cases my opposition to the death penalty can be temporarily.....forgotten.

Posted by: Tom at August 7, 2003 at 08:07 PM

At last...satisfaction.

Posted by: Jake D at August 7, 2003 at 08:16 PM

What will be the manner of execution? Would it be legal to have him eaten by pigs?

Posted by: S.A. Smith at August 7, 2003 at 08:17 PM

I wonder if Amrozi is a hero in the indonesian jails? Wouldn't surprise me. Better they shoot him I guess, maybe they'll all aim for the groin.

Posted by: Amos at August 7, 2003 at 08:30 PM

What sickens me is the audience replicating Amrozi's sickening fucking fundamentalist chants. Let him burn to death over a period of weeks like some of his victims (both Balinese and Ozzie)

Posted by: Farkinott at August 7, 2003 at 08:43 PM

Tie him down supine. Place an inverted metal bucket on his abdomen - the bucket must not protrude past the sides of his abdomen - with a large rat inside. Heap red-hot coals atop the bucket. Sit back and enjoy as the rat madly scrambles to escape the increasing heat. Ask any as yet unanswered questions while you wait.

An old European favourite: they weren't always pussies.

Posted by: ZsaZsa at August 7, 2003 at 09:06 PM

No but they were bastards. Poor rats.

Killing Amrozi is not revenge, nor is it deterrance. It's exactly the sort of sentence we'd expect from a fucked-in-the-arse country like Indonesia.

Posted by: Gabor at August 7, 2003 at 09:22 PM

I hope he's a twitcher.

Posted by: Bill McCabe at August 7, 2003 at 09:34 PM

SoAmrozi gets his 72 virgins

Posted by: F Squad at August 7, 2003 at 10:23 PM

If only they could do it the night he was sentenced.

Posted by: Andjam at August 7, 2003 at 10:37 PM

Score!

God *IS* great!

Have fun in hell, you piece of sh*t.

Posted by: hbchrist at August 7, 2003 at 10:52 PM

This is appalling. Surely it would have been more humane for the victims if Amrozi had been given a life sentence with hard labour, working as a shredder tester.

Posted by: Clem Snide at August 7, 2003 at 10:53 PM

Genesis 9.6.

Another reason to stop these nutters reaching Australian shores with their terrorism. NOT that Ozzie lives are worth more, but that our gov't is too gutless to execute mass murderers like Amrozi for targeting civilians out of racial and religious hatred. If they pull their stunts in "backward" Indonesia, and are caught and convicted, they'll actually get the penalty they deserve.

Posted by: Uncle Milk at August 7, 2003 at 11:44 PM

F Squad, I'd like to see his face, just before he's shot, when he's told that the virgins have no - ahem - orifices.

Seriously, the next time someone raises racism over some trivial incident, I'll point him out as what a racist really is.

Posted by: Edmund Burke at August 7, 2003 at 11:57 PM

Over at our place, Tom Paine is happy contemplating six men and a cold stone wall.

I personally think that's five too many.

One guy, an old Enfield bolt action, and a box of bullets. Plus, no head or center of mass shots till the final one...

Posted by: Wind Rider at August 8, 2003 at 12:20 AM

Take him to the top of the Petronis towers, set him on fire, throw him off.

Posted by: iowahawk at August 8, 2003 at 12:40 AM

As tempting as a horrible, painful death is, I think the old tried and true hanging and the disgrace that goes with it are in perfect order here. A special death would send the message that this sociopath is somehow also special. Give him the common death of a common criminal and the message will be clear.

Posted by: Jeffersonian at August 8, 2003 at 01:48 AM

The "Great Satan's" 'O'l Sparky' might have added an ironic twist. If it happened here in Oz, I'd prefer the rope - considering that's what we always used here...

On the other hand, the appropriate sentence for these crimes is the sentence that was applied for High Treason in the UK from the age of Henry VIII to 1814 (when it was finally abolished in Northern Ireland), namely:

..that they should be drawn on a hurdle to the place of execution and there be hanged by the neck, but not until they are dead, but that they should be taken down again, and that when they are yet alive their bowels should be taken out and burnt before their faces, and that afterwards their heads should be severed from their bodies, and their bodies be divided into four quarters, and their heads and quarters to be at the King's [the People's] disposal... [which means that you stick 'em up on pikes outside your city gates].

The brutality of that almost outdoes some of the Islamofascist regimes. Let's not get too excited about giving them the Uday treatment.

Death will do. Rejoice! Rejoice!

Allah and Mo will know their own.

Allah Akbar...and pass me a celebratory beer...and a sheila without a burkha on...and crucifix and Star of David ear-rings!

Industrial plastic shredder, anyone?

Justum est.

Posted by: David at August 8, 2003 at 02:05 AM

He should be dipped in Gravy Train and thrown to rabid poodles. Very tiny rabid poodles.

Posted by: Jared at August 8, 2003 at 02:58 AM

Death by bolt cutters!

Posted by: Bruce at August 8, 2003 at 03:06 AM

May his first day in Hell last a thousand years, and may it be the shortest.

($1 to Stephen King.)

Posted by: Will Collier at August 8, 2003 at 03:56 AM

Justice would only have been served if, upon reading of the sentence, he had been brought before the judge, asked if he had any last words, and then beheaded before a live camera.

Posted by: Greg Hill at August 8, 2003 at 06:30 AM

Frankly I would like to have seen him on tv honestly recanting everything that he had done honestly believing that he was not going to heaven for his actions and telling all potential terrorists that they should not even think of doing it. Whatever it might take to do that.+
even if that isnt possible (although I think it might be) then he can just dribble on himself and generally loook pathetic.

The problem with people like this is that they can stand up and look all brave and macho on tv and to a twisted angry person that might seem to be somthing to aspire to.

He ccould instead remain alive as a shining example of an anti-martyr

Posted by: scottie at August 8, 2003 at 08:50 AM

Aren't the cases of David Hicks and Amrosi similar? If Amrosi gets the death penalty, shouldn't Hicks as well?

Posted by: George at August 8, 2003 at 09:18 AM

Why not just throw a knife in his prison cell and surround his with round the clock tapings of "American Idol" and "Paradise Hotel" till he does the deed himself?

Posted by: Sean at August 8, 2003 at 10:29 AM

If Amrozi thinks he'll have 72 virgins waiting for him in Paradise, he'll also have 202 bombing victims waiting to give him hell. Personally, I think he'll find Paradise a little warmer, virgin-less and more sulphorous than he expected.

After the shooting, hack off his head and use it for a footy in a charity match to be staged in Bali between the Perth and Southport teams who lost teammates in the bombing.

And finally, re. the post about David Hicks, yeah, send him to Afghanistan for trial. Any crimes he committed we on Afghan soil primarily against Afghan people, so let Afghan law and justice deal with him.

Posted by: steve at August 8, 2003 at 10:30 AM

So, the cycle of violence continues....

Cool!

Posted by: Jerry at August 8, 2003 at 10:54 AM

Actually, a most unpleasant death might be to subject him to a round-the-clock "roundtable" discussion attended by Morgo Kingston, John Pilger, Robert Fisk, Robert Scheer, and Maureen Dowd.

I can hear the screams ..."AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH...please, please, a bullet, a rope...AAAAAAAAHHHHHHH...anything!"

Posted by: Jerry at August 8, 2003 at 10:57 AM

i'm diggin on the rat-and-bucket-of-coals thing.

Posted by: cali white bear at August 8, 2003 at 11:51 AM

The media is falsely claiming that he's welcoming his death sentence.

ABC radio news says

"Amrozi smiled when the court pronounced him guilty, but was expressionless and shifted in his chair when the judge handed down the death sentence. " [and I wouldn't like to be doing his laundry that night]

Yet what do we get from the media the next day? "Death wish comes true" (SMH) "LAUGHING ALL THE WAY TO HELL" (Daily Telegraph) "the five judges who have been hearing the case against Amrozi have ordered the death sentence, though it didn't wipe the smile from the face of the man who bought the chemicals and the vehicle used to kill 202 people, including 88 Australians, on October 12th last year at Kuta." (ABC program "AM")

The media wanted Amrozi to die a Jihadi martyr, not as a gutless coward, and couldn't care less when Amrozi didn't follow the script. This falsified version of events is now influencing the debate on how to deal with terrorism.

(Yes, before the sentence he said that he wasn't afraid to die, but that could easily be him saying that to discourage the judges from handing out such a penalty)

Andjam

Bollocks - sorry

Posted by: JohninLondon at August 8, 2003 at 02:53 PM

He should not be executed. It is too good for him, and it's important he is denied his self proclaimed martyrdom.

He should be made to rot for the next 40 or 50 years, or whatever the term of his natural life is,in Indonesia's worst prison. I gather this is not a nice place.

Posted by: Nemesis at August 8, 2003 at 02:54 PM

True, Jerry, but you forgot to include St. Noam of Chumpsky and Richard Neville for the coup de grace. And what about George Moonbat? Polly Toynboob?

The horror, the horror.

Posted by: Irene A. at August 8, 2003 at 03:06 PM

Vanessa Amorosi?

Bummer.

Posted by: Alex Hidell at August 8, 2003 at 03:11 PM

Make him appear in a video with Cher, show it to all his mates and tell them that the same will happen to them, then shoot the little motherfucker.

Posted by: Habib Bickford at August 8, 2003 at 05:31 PM

Killing him is practical but I wish he was given a sentence he would not want. I'd prefer to be shot than spend the rest of my life in a stinking Indonesian prison. I would wish him more inhumanity. Pigs. Blowtorches. Pliers. Shredding machine - pube chin first. Evil shit for an evil little prick.

Posted by: Aussiejoe at August 8, 2003 at 07:12 PM

Apparently the Russians, in an effort to plant a seed of doubt in the minds of the Islamofascists, have encouraged the rumour that dead fanatics are slathered with lard and wrapped in pigskin before burial. It has something to do with preventing entry to heaven. I'm certain the Balinese would donate the necessary pigs.

Posted by: ZsaZsa at August 9, 2003 at 12:03 AM

I'm with Jerry, however the "Smiling Bomber" dies, it should be by his own hand.

What about this:
1. Tell him he will die by lethal injection but instead simply give him a sedative to knock him unconscious.
2. While unconscious, move him to a room decked up to look like paradise and present him with his "72 virgins."
3. Don't tell him his 72 virgins are really transvestites until its, ahem, too late.
4. Give him the means to finish himself off (knife, pills, rope, etc.) once the truth is revealed.

Posted by: Sean at August 9, 2003 at 05:55 AM

Good idea sean...
"woops sorry .. did the mullas forget to point out the fine print?"
Or..
"did they fail to mention WHY they are virgins???"
