NY NOW BLIX-FREE

Hans Blix is out of the Apple:

Days after his 75th birthday, Hans Blix formally ended his tumultuous three-year quest for Iraq's chemical, biological and ballistic missiles, insisting he was just a lawyer doing an apolitical job.

"It's sort of sad to be leaving New York because I like New York. I was here in my youth and I have spent three thrilling years here with a lot of difficult but also rewarding work," he told reporters Monday.

“I just wish I could have visited the Statue of Liberty,” Blix added. “But I couldn’t find it.”

Most telling quote:

...I have spent three thrilling years here with a lot of difficult but also rewarding work...."

Kinda hard to see Iraqi anything from an office on Manhattan, wot?

Dunno. I reckon the most telling quote is about how he couldn't find the Statue of Liberty. I mean, fer Chrissake, how hard is that? This is the bloke the UN had searching for evidence of a continuing WMD program in Iraq and he can't find the f***ing Statue of Liberty in New York's harbour!

Uh-oh. Tim Blair joke alert!

“I just wish I could have visited the Statue of Liberty,” Blix added. “But I couldn’t find it.”

Well, then, obviously it doesn't exist.

Um, I wonder if he followed the same historical route that Slick Willie followed when HE went to NYC in his youth.

I couldn't find it when I was in New York either. Drinks were too cheap. I blame capitalism.

I've been sipping whiskey all day on the theory that two bottles are cheaper treatment for a throat infection than going to the doctor. I blame John Howard. Now I have to find my bed. Where are the UN inspectors when you need them?

Good riddance to bad rubbish. Blixie couldn't find his ass with both hands.

Now if we can just get the rest of the useless UN weenies to leave.....

"I just wish I could have visited the Statue of Liberty,” Magoo^H^H^H^H^HBlix added. “But I couldn’t find it.”

Gee, Bob, maybe your bed doesn't exist.

Please tell me this was a joke.. if not it explains a lot.

One could safely assume that a person who cannot locate an oversize brass woman waving a torch who has an entire island to herself and is visible from New Jersey would have some difficulty finding concealed ordnance. Wonder if he had the same trouble finding the bank to cash his pay cheque?

well, for starters - most of you should follow the link if you're not sure if something is a joke. this one was, though i understand your confusion as it was not a very good one.

and secondly - anyone else find WMD in Iraq yet?

thought so...

Even if he couldn't find it, he should have lied about it. That's the mark of a good leader.

It seems Blix is trying to outdo Comical Ali for the tosser of the year award.

Posted by: d at July 2, 2003 at 03:49 PM

Well, yes, but let us not forget that Herr Blix was correct in everything he said at all times.

Unlike let's say frinstance Co-lin Powell and numerous other liars of global reach.

And the only really funny thing about the Statue of Liberty is - it's French.

“I just wish I could have visited the Statue of Liberty,” Blix added. “But I couldn’t find it.”

Fortunately, as a gesture of reconciliation, President Bush sent a crack team (consisting of elite special forces, MET inspectors, former Iraqi officials, and Judith Miller) to aid Mr. Blix in his search for the statue.

Sadly, to date, their search also remains unsuccessful. Bush officials remain optimistic.

(Congressional Democrats were quoted as saying "...")
